I was required to do the 6 month supervised diet & was very successful doing it....I have lost 55 lbs. I have UMR (United Healthcare Choice Plus) & my surgery was still approved with the substantial weight loss. I am having my surgery Nov. 24th. Insurance companies like to intimidate people with all the hoops but PLEASE.DO NOT GIVE UP!

Got my date...Nov 24th! So excited & ready to get done. Looking forwad to the new way of life & new year. So happy I don't have to do the 2 week liquid diet...I only have to do 2 days. ????

I too am waiting on approval.... mine was submitted last Wed.10/15. I called my insurance company this morning & they told me they will have me answer early next week. (normally takes 13 working days) It has been a long week. Getting very anxious & have a million things going thru my mind. Excited & scared at the same time.

I am currently awaiting insurance approval... I have UMR United Healthcare Choice Plus. Does anyone else have this plan & how long did it take to get approval. Also when I called they told me that they had a surgery date of 11/7... this is the first I have heard of this date.. Does this mean that is when I will be having my surgery?

I don't have to do the 2 wks liquid diet...thank goodness. Doctor does surgery on Mondays so all liquids for 2 days before. I am very excited. Insurance company told me I should have my approval no later that the end of the month so really hoping Nov 17th date is a go for me. So ready for this but also have a lot of different things going thru my mind. Thanks for your input & have a great day! =)

I too am going thru Dr. Eibes & going to Belmond for my surgery. I am currently waiting for insurance approval. I was so happy to see your post & hear your comments regarding this doctor & the facility. I would be great to connect with you sometime & compare notes. I am from the Des Moines Area. How are you doing since your surgery?

I also had to do the 6 mth diet... my last appt. with NUT is tomorrow. I am down 45 lbs & now I am worried they will not do it. Has anybody out there ever been denied for losing too much weight? I just dropped below the 40 BMI but I also have sleep apnea, COPD & Asthma.

Hi Marilyn, I have asthma & COPD so I can relate to your breathing issues. I have had to do the 6 month supervised diet for insurance & tomorrow is my last appt.. I am hoping to be scheduled for sometime next month. I will say I was able to lose 45 lbs over the past 6 mths & breathing has improved greatly. I saw my pulmonologist today & I have already gotten rid of one of my meds... stated I will probably be off the CPAP shortly after my surgery & he is already talking about reducing my other meds in a couple of months. I truly believe this surgery will be a life safer for me. BTW ... it was my pulmonologist that suggest the surgery for me as well.

Do you have UMR Insurance? How long did it take to get your approval once submitted?
