Those sizes and weights may depend on height and how your proportioned my sister is 5'10 and a size 8 eats practically nothing and works out two hours a day and thinks she's fat yeah I know I've nearly slapped the hell out of her lol I know other women that are shorter but a wear a size or two up try not to compare yourself to others it's self defeating and it does no good we need to stop trying to look like 12 year olds and allowing society to say we should

My surgeon never mentioned any goal weight ever I'm 6 months post op sleeve they seem to only worry about if your losing and continue to lose and follow the diet perhaps when I get closer to what I should weigh it will come up

Hair Loss - Gastric Sleeve?
shellyd88 replied to Kym Preslar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh yes it happens with me it started at about 3 weeks post op and was pretty heavy for about three months it's slowed down some my hairdresser also made that comment about me finally having normal hair lol I absolutely did not go bald but for a person who has had very thick long curly hair that grows mostly out rather than long lol it was a shock for sure I've sure had a "cooler" summer this year without that heavy thick hair I'm estimating a 50% loss hairdresser agrees I've been with her for 20 years since she got a license and she my sister so she knows my hair lol eat your protein take your vitamins drink your fluids do what u can to try to limit loss but don't dwell on it it stops -

Doesn't it get annoying?
shellyd88 replied to missy5099's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry to say this but if you don't want to hear negative things or peoples various opinions do not tell anyone once you put the info out there they are going to feel they can voice their views on your decisions I understand u aren't asking their opinion or approval however it never stops those who wish to rain on your parade so to speak perhaps if you feel comfortable enough just say what you want to say and then say I've made this decision for my health with a dr no negative or unsupportive comments will be acknowledged thank you -
Feeling frustrated and nervous
shellyd88 replied to LadiSani's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
High sugar levels are not likely to prevent surgery if you don't have infections or fever or lung issues it will likely move forward I've had increasing blood sugars over a period of years never got to be diabetic tho or took any meds for that had this surgery because my mother developed diabetes in her late 40's from eating habits and died at age 56 due to complications of diabetes and noncompliance of diet and excercise and medications so don't panic it doesn't mean u can't have surgery in fact most likely a good reason to do it -
surgery cancelled/postponed!
shellyd88 replied to Shakti's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It was the elevated temp that did it I have a few nurses in my family and if your temp isn't normal you could have an infection or a virus they will postpone sorry hope you feel better and get rescheduled soon -
Did anyone feel pressure by surgeon to so bypass instead of sleeve
shellyd88 replied to Mayastone's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello there I'm 6 months post op sleeve in western ny state my surgeon didn't push bypass or sleeve with me but did discourage the band once I found out the risks and how it can slip etc fills and u fills etc I said hmm naw not doing that I went with sleeve as I wasn't interested in re routing my insides and having all that dumping I wasn't a big sugar eater anyway do that doesn't affect me much I will tell you that many ppl I've met have told me that the surgeons have pushed bypass vs sleeve especially for the extremely overweight such as myself when I began this I was 462 I lost 60 lbs by surgery in late February this year today I'm 293 at 6'1 I hope to get to 180 so it can be done with sleeve or bypass just remember one thing it's your body your decision your life you must deal with any outcome so if you feel comfortable one way or the other then you get to decide no ones does and no one should pressure you into anything if that's what u feel is happening then do not use this surgeon as you said u have no co morbids so there's no reason for this to be pushed on you I had one dr who was not in this field but knew some who are tell me some of these Drs were very harsh about fat ppl in private he actually named one who I'd had a consult with seven months prior to meeting him and I disliked her immediately she didn't even pretend to be professional I never went back I didn't feel I should have to tolerate someone speaking to me as if I were the lowest form of life and justifying it by saying well your fat so don't let anyone bully you into anything just because they are trained to operate doesn't mean they know everything or are better than you you know your body better than anyone else let alone a surgeon u will see likely once for a consult once at endoscopy if they require that the day of your surgery and one follow up likely after that u will see a NP unless u have a surgical issue or complication -

Quite a few questions and scared sh*tless of changing my life. Stupid, huh?
shellyd88 replied to Indy _Mike's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there I'm in western ny my surgeon won't operate if u smoke they test u for nicotine so the food thing u talk about if your plan is to eat mcdonalds as a habit don't have surgery your not ready it's not true that u can't eat again for a while u won't eat much and certain things will fill u up faster bread rice pasta potatoes u will be extremely uncomfortable if u overfill the stomach read the the guidelines they give you carefully follow the dr instructions excercise when u can eat from the allowed list if u eat high fat high calorie high sugar foods it will impact your weight loss and may make u feel unwell as for drinking I'm not a drinker never liked alcohol my surgeon says lay off for six months no carbonation such as soda beer not an issue for me as I don't care lol but I've seen ppl here say they have a couple drinks here and there after the appropriate recovery time some say it affects them more then before speaking for myself some things that are not good for me just don't taste as good anymore and since I couldn't finish anything isn't worth me buying it and throwing most of it away( unless my dog manages to whine cute enough that I give to him) besides I don't want to work as hard as I have to keep the same old habits that got me here I'm six months post op sleeve I've lost 170 lbs since mid sept last year 60 lbs pre op and the rest since my surgery at end of February this year you must decide to eat right most of the time if this tool will work it's just a tool not a miracle best wishes to you -

@@lealor I know it's hard to not be nervous it's perfectly normal we would be silly not to be a little scared try not to stress about it it's a chance to reset things going forward to be healthier which is a good thing it wasn't very painful at all was nauseas and had bad gas for about three days took no pain meds after 36 hours having said that take whatever meds u need to get thru it cuz we are all different it hurt mostly getting up and down or bending over but for me was not unbearable best of luck to you safe trip and speedy recovery keep us updated when u can -
Thank you all its been a long road but I don't regret it at all keep that in mind when you are going thru the first few weeks as its a process that takes getting used to and remember it does get better I'm happy to answer any questions that I can if anyone has the need best of luck to all

Surgeon Submission to Insurance Delays
shellyd88 replied to ryanadam's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've seen many people saying this has happened to them as well I had some difficulty as well seems like they are very slow in getting things rolling and staying organized my issue was get this that or the other test or records from any Drs u see etc and it seemed they never " received" faxes so I got really sick of the BS so I went to each dr got my records and asked for copy's all reports tests CDs of any X-rays ultrasounds etc anything I had to get done I never gave them the only copy's of anything always had my own copy's I also made sure I brought with me to hospital the day of surgery a copy of everything in case they said oh we don't have this or that and it actually happened they said I didn't take the correct dosage of blood thinners etc I said ughh yes I did here's my receipt here's a photo of the bottle where's the lab I'll go tested right now well they decided it wasn't necessary I swear I think they slow things down on purpose they either overbook or can't for some reason get their shit together I work with attorneys so I have some experience with BS and their lack of focus and organization also time management makes one wonder how they ever got a law degree lol -
gained 6 pounds!?!?!
shellyd88 replied to glitterpockets's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@glitterpocket cracking up lol I've been saying that my whole life ... Sighs it may be your body fighting to hold on or fluid retention too or ummm "gas" since my surgery I often get terrible gas it doesn't hurt or anything I often don't realize it until it wants to get the hell out then I almost swear I could take off like a hot air balloon thought I was eating something to cause it but it doesn't seem to go away no matter what I cut out -
Congrats ladies !!! Great news I'm 6 months post op sleeve I remember waiting for this moment to come too

Endoscopy????????????????
shellyd88 replied to sbagby1960's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not heard of that either did u ask what that means? Cuz I freaked a bit too I was told twilight sedation I said what the heck is that and that nurse says oh your awake I was like oh hell no!!! turns out it just means your not put to sleep so to speak but u won't know what's happening they must do something there's no way you can be alert as we all have gag reflexes and inserting a tube in your throat your body will instinctually fight that and they will want you relaxed so they can do what they need to do which they can't if your gagging or choking I walked into the room they asked me to lay on the table and turn on my side they had previously put in an IV I was asked to turn on my side he said I'm going to inject u now next thing I knew I felt like I'd had a few too many then a few mins later I was back in the recovery area awake and about an hour later I went home my husband drove me I couldn't have even walked from the 6 floor of a huge city hospital that takes up oh a dozen city blocks to the front door I'd have fallen on my face lol I sure could not drive I'm sure they can't be going to do that without sedating you -
Wow your only 6 days out and you want to eat those things? It's kind of surprising that u feel like you want that now I did feel some hunger but not for that kind of stuff it's so early yet your really swollen inside it's going to be a process to work up to regular foods again it took me a couple of months before I ate anything that I'd eaten before and then only a couple bites and I was full I'm almost 6 months out from sleeve surgery I can eat pretty much anything I want just a small amount however I'm realizing that when I eat things like bread I seem to not lose as much and I had a stall for the first time where I stayed the same for three weeks then the next week went up a 1lb I went to a BBQ one weekend and ate some things I don't usually have but I was pisssed!!!! (I almost took a sledge hammer to that scale) then then next week went down seven lbs u will get to eat normally again I promise I know this sucks right now but it will get better just remember this surgery is a tool not a miracle that allows you to eat whatever you want without consequences

Unsupportive family
shellyd88 replied to ralambert511's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Absolutely I must agree with what everyone has said its your life your decision you must live with the effects of being overweight and the surgery not them they don't need to be told so they criticize you if that's their thing that's on them not for you to have to deal with this process is hard enough without negative uneducated or jealous comments etc you can always say u have a slight tummy bug or you pulled a muscle which is sort of how it feels one thing I feel is that u don't have to defend yourself or justify your decision to anyone it's your life to live not anyone else's place to say what u should do -
Thinking of changing surgeons
shellyd88 replied to gsusser's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@ glitterpockets well said.... To the poster ...having no staff there may have been why she was struck dumb for lack of a better word lol as a rule surgeons don't like doing clinical work they meet patients because they have to all other details are put on the nurse practitioners or PA's I've seen many Drs that don't know how to enter info into the computer system they have in their own offices they are interested in your money so is the hospital they work in they must produce money for that institution and are generally not warm and fuzzy u may have seen positive reviews from so called famous ppl as I'm sure the Drs and hospitals want those so as to entice more customers if u feel uncomfortable by all means look into moving on but as suggested get all your records first and find out what the outcome would be if u switched if there is a high turnover of staff in that office I'd be suspicious -
Starting to freak out...
shellyd88 replied to jennamacd's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pain really isn't as bad as people think it will be I was sleeved almost 6 months ago it felt like u pulled the muscles in your abdomen and back mostly hurt when getting and down or bending over took pain meds about 36 hours never took anymore the gas pain was miserable for about three days try not to stress about the pain honestly it's not that bad -
Who, and when, to tell about surgery?
shellyd88 replied to SuperSecretIdentity's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@shaqhki hello it's so easy for ppl to say it's the easy way out as they have not done it I'm almost 6 months post op sleeve it's not easy I've had a few comments like that and I say well have this procedure live with it and then we can discuss exactly what about it you feel is so easy until then shut the hell up the truth of the matter is this will help you lose weight initially however if u eat the same way you did before you won't be very successful it's a tool not a miracle try not to let the negative comments affect you you must put effort into it for it to work people who don't understand the procedure and how it works really should do the research before commenting but as they say opinions are like assholes everybody has one keep your head up and keep walking
