PRE-SURGERY QUESTION PLEASE HELP WITH FEEDBACK!
shellyd88 replied to kpa201484@yahoo.com's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello I'm sorry your wife is having a hard time my surgeon required his patients to lose 5% before you could even have a consult with him all appts went thru his staff they put you on south beach diet and which is low carb low fat low sugar no pasta bread rice desserts or even fruit in stage one when u reach the 5% they will schedule your consult and if he approves you for surgery they schedule it and he told me that I couldn't gain any weight or he wouldn't do it I had two months and three days from the consult to day of surgery I was on south beach for six months and I lost 62 lbs before surgery I'm not sure if this is a standard practice with all surgeons -

Hi lealor what's not working did u try the omeprazole ? If one isn't doing it try 2 Take it at the same time every day Are you drinking like orange juice or anything like that cuz that might really hurt I also had trouble sleeping after the first week or two for a couple months I was wide awake at 2 am being up from 6 am my dr gave me some sleeping pills she said it's likely just a temporary change I took them for a few weeks I'm not taking them now once I went back to work full on I got tired again I do lots of walking on my job I know it can really be a struggle the first few weeks it can be discouraging but it does get better do u have a dr u can go to that is experienced with bariatrics? Also were you given a leak test before u left hospital? If u have or get a fever go to ER asap -
Lol I sorta got that impression I know how u feel I've been there but until they get jobs buy their own food etc what is here is what they get my husband doesn't like shopping or cooking he will do it but hates it he does love the junk food tho so I have to let him have some he of course doesn't gain weight I tell him to get stuff I don't like so I don't eat it lol unfornately I like junk foods too so I have to be a bit strict about it for my own sake my teen nieces and nephews aren't thrilled I no longer have soda at my house but hey they won't perish without a soda I hope you get some cooperation

Confused about being full
shellyd88 replied to Monnie815's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had left side pain I felt full the regular way by feeling like I don't want anymore food and if eating to fast feels like it's in your chest or throat very uncomfortable or drinking too soon after eating... Not comfortable at all u learn what your full feels like that meat may be too soon for you how did u feel after? I had a hard time getting to meat again at every stage I'm six months post op sleeve the difficulty getting liquids in is not unusual u kinda have to treat it like a job for a while lol no I'm not kidding either force yourself if u have to or u can end up in the hospital -
Should gallbladder be removed during surgery?
shellyd88 replied to Kym Preslar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah me too I was given those pills too I'm almost done thank god I asked about this when I had my sleeve done my surgeon said he can't take it out unless it's diseased already that they aren't legally allowed to remove organs that are healthy I don't know if this is technically true but it makes sense I guess? -

Hi hey whatever helps him feel better and kinda distract him from the vacation he isn't going on maybe if it's possible bring him a "surprise " when u come home if there's a special something he enjoys a small toy or book or maybe u can put a little gift box together before u go with some new things he can play with coloring books he draw you a picture everyday or play dough he can make something to show you he can take a photo and email it to you if somebody can help him do that or little cars stuff from the dollar store or a DVDs all kids typically love getting things maybe u can arrange for this little gift box to arrive after you leave like the day after your surgery when your not groggy and he can talk to you for a few mins even if u just stash it in a closet and address it to him someone can help him open it if he is little he likely won't notice there's no postage on it hope this helps I'm not a parent but I've taken care of many children I've had them cry when I'm gone away I've done these little things at times so they don't think I've forgotten them nothing like a tiny tear stained face to make u feel guilty lol

@@Remmy75 good for you!! I'm 47 I was sleeved in February this year the pain really wasn't bad and they give you good drugs lol felt more like I pulled the muscles in my abdomen back and shoulder mostly hurt when getting up and down bending over etc for a few days then it eases up the gas pain was nasty for about 3 days and was nauseas they also give you good drugs for that too lol they do not want u to throw up I took pain meds for 36 hours never touched the RX for home they gave me this horrible nasty vile tasting liquid to go home as a pain meds it was gross I also lost my mom she was 56 she developed diabetes after a lifetime of bad food choices and wasn't not compliant with dr instructions taking meds revising diet or excercise as a result she had bad things happen eventually became septic and died I felt that if I didn't take control that could be me in a few years so I applaud you for wanting to be there for your child hope all goes well for you and best of luck -

shellyd88 replied to coloradoroe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello I'm a little bit confused are you talking about vaginal bleeding like a menstral cycle ? If that's what u mean it won't have any effect on surgery I ended up having mine the day of surgery I'm 47 of course it came five days early the nurse said its not an issue at all it happens all the time just wasn't allowed tampons during surgery -
Screwed up and feel bad!

Or chips or candy etc pick up and carry on don't allow a slip up to define the entire experience it's over move on -
I was given what they call twilight sedation your not under full anesthesia supposedly lol all I remember is going in laying on the table an IV was in already they say turn on your side I'm going to inject meds into your IV now a few seconds later I felt extremely drunk that's all I remember until waking up back in the prep area an hour later I went home my husband had to drive I couldn't even walk right I was so loopy they wouldn't do the procedure if u didn't have a driver I had a sore throat after for a couple days nothing awful

Can I just be real with you?
shellyd88 replied to hilaryglynxo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@ hilarygylnxo one thing u can tell us anything here if u want to ask questions or after surgery say oh this sucks come here we all have had those days so we know how it feels just keep in mind it gets better it will seem like it won't at first but it will the best way to not have the I told u so ppl harping is to not give them anything to talk about work hard at using the tool you will be given and move forward as the saying goes u can't control what ppl say or how they act maybe but u can control how u react to it u have to live your life they don't so don't allow others opinions or comments to color what u feel u need to do the best response to naysayers is success!!! It speaks for itself -
Oh my! Laughing @ MIMISAN too funny for the poster worried about scars (get ready I'm about to be sarcastic)girl we who have been so heavy have stretch marks bigger than the scars from the surgery will be oh and by the way I'm just over 6 months post op sleeve u can't even see them don't give it a thought it's not worth your worry concentrate on healthy eating excercise will help with skin I've never heard of ppl having trouble being a mother or becoming a mother after surgery it can only be an asset for your future parenting duties which trust me are exhausting for a fit person as for alcohol I'm 47 been there done that it's not that interesting to me anymore don't believe that u can't eat u can and u will at first it will be hard it takes getting used to it's an adjustment eventually as time goes on and u heal u will eat more normally again it will be up to u what u eat as it was before

shellyd88 replied to Whitney1968's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I too was extremely weak for several weeks after my sleeve I about thought I'd never be normal again or be able to go back to work I had to force myself to drink drink drink eat what I could take vitamins try to walk around even if just in the house do some small exercise even if while sitting if u have light hand weights move your legs anything drink your protein shakes I don't know if u have any other medical issues I do it turned out I had really low potassium which made me go to the hospital with an AFib episode I had to get some meds adjusted and I was fine after that see your dr asap find out if there's an issue that can be fixed or adjusted -
Freaking out a little!
shellyd88 replied to jennolsen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's the idea that it's OMG I can't have this or that or the other from here on out... It's not true for a while u won't be eating much but u won't want to then little by little you will be able to eat normally again just smaller amounts but having said that u will have to decide if you will eat well or go back to bad habits if you eat high fat high sugar high calorie foods you will not lose a lot or will stall or regain its a tool but not a magic trick that allows us to still load in foods that got us to this point -
Did anyone feel pressure by surgeon to so bypass instead of sleeve
shellyd88 replied to Mayastone's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My primary tried telling me that too I had to inform her that it wasn't true I may possibly have responded to the other post u made but I've been told by other bariatric patients that they were pressured too to do bypass instead of sleeve and I know a couple Drs who know a group of bariatric surgeons who speak terribly about the patients they operate on in private which really turns my stomach because they are supposed to be trying to help us and in private are ridiculing us while making money from us and the reason I believed him is because he named one dr who I had met with 7 months prior to ever meeting him he didn't know I'd seen her and when I was in her office she behaved exactly as he described and justified it by saying well your fat as if it had somehow escaped my notice ... I left and never went back I'd rather die then let someone treat or operate on me when they treat as if I'm less then human and not deserving of basic respect
