    I Did It!

I am so happy that you are all doing so well. I was banded yesterday and just got home a few hours ago. I have to admit that I feel pretty darn great! Of course it could just be the Percocet talking, but I really feel wonderful aside from the tenderness and gas. As I was sitting on the couch while my husband was picking up my prescription, it finally hit me. I'm on my way to being thin! And guess what? You all are, too! Isn't that such an incredible feeling?

Good luck week of Dec. 17th!

Thank you!!!! How are you doing?

Romney 2008? What do you think

I completely agree. When asked recently, he wouldn't retract an ignorant comment that he made in 1992 that AIDS patients should basically be isolated from the rest of the population. That definitely is a "scary mo-fo." I'm surprised that he's not calling for a quarantine of all non-Christians on his platform.
  5. CrazyCat, that is an ignorant email and obviously written by someone who hates any group that isn't Christian. Why would you want to spread something that was written to incite additional fear rather than educate people?

Romney 2008? What do you think

I've been giving this issue a ton of thought lately. I believe in strong family values 100% and tend to lean more towards the conservative side of the political spectrum. However, I am really starting to believe that values and morals should be instilled by one's family and not necessarily from the government. The government's concern should lie in upholding the Constitution, the economy, military security, civil liberties, etc. Morals should not play a role in government. Ethics should. If we as citizens do not like that there is a breakdown of marriages and families, isn't it up to "we the people" to fix that on a societal level? If the government were to be the mechanism by which morals are decided upon, doled out, and enforced, wouldn't religions be obsolete? It really is time that we as citizens take responsibility for the way in which the moral fiber of our society and home lives has turned to sh*t. We are responsible for the astronomical divorce rate. We are the ones who do not pick correct suitors, marry for the wrong reasons, and do not work on building strong marriages and seeing them through. The government does not play matchmaker nor lord over one's home. We are the ones who allow our children to be influenced by skanky, drunk and drugged out, Hollywood tartlets who flash their diseased vaginas every opportunity they get. We are the ones who purchase (or give money to) our kids to buy the music, video games, DVDs, etc. that we ourselves abhor and preach against. Our government does not force our children to sit in front of the television or computer for over five hours a day filling their mind's with images that we wish to protect them from. The government shouldn't be the one to put parental controls on our TVs and computers, nor should they monitor anything else that is the responsibility of one's parents. Wouldn't that in fact be totalitarianism, the absolute opposite form of government our Constitution set out not to create?
  7. TXBandit, I apologize if my response to you two posts ago sounded snotty. I just re-read it now and am embarrassed by how bitchy and trite I sounded. No hard feelings I hope?
  8. I remember in 2004 when the media would analyze the candidates based on physical appearance. They said that American's wouldn't vote for someone who had facial hair and/or was bald. Guess there's no hope for Giuliani...(YES!) Speaking of appearances, here's a funny/scary website RE: Hillary: The Really Truly Hillary Gallery
  9. Here's a link to Wikipedia that has a pretty exhaustive list of political parties: List of political parties in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Romney 2008? What do you think

NO ROMNEY, GIULIANI, OR MCCAIN! NO NO NO! Ron Paul is the man! Do your research on him. He doesn't get the same air time as the others in the media, but he damn well should!
  11. RON. PAUL. Hope for America! FYI: I live in NY. Hillary Clinton is awful and has not done a single thing to benefit this state. She only brought her carpet-bagging ass here in order to aid in her return to the White House. In addition, Rudy Guiliani does not have the qualifications to run the country. Granted, he did clean up Manhattan by turning it into a "police city" and was a strong figure during the terrorist attacks, however is that real evidence that he can lead the nation? Obviously I don't believe so. I am a registered Republican. If Ron Paul does not receive the Republican nomination, I would not vote for any of the other jokers vying for the presidency come election time. I would cross party lines and vote for Obama if he were the Democratic hopeful. If it's Hillary, I throw my arms up in the air. This is a really scary election and all of the people running are nimrods.
  12. Actually, you're wrong. There are other parties.
  13. Are Republicans really the only people who are unhappy about paying taxes? I don't think that I have ever met anyone, regardless of party affiliation, who enjoyed having the government take a cut out of their paycheck or purchases. BTW, this poll totally exemplifies what is wrong with our government. There are other political parties aside from the two that the media shoves down our throats and they deserve more recognition than being incorrectly labeled "Independent." Perhaps we citizens could actually have a government that worked for us and protected our rights if we would do away with the stifling, antiquated, two-party system.
  14. I saw my PCP today to get medical clearance. I thought it would be a breeze; I would be in and out in no time. Needless to say, that was not the case. My doctor received the results from the lab work that I had performed at the hospital yesterday. Turns out my liver enzymes or whatever they're called are way high, leading the doctor to the decision that I have hepatitis (HOW? I always wash my hands thoroughly after doing my business, I don't eat uncooked shellfish, share needles, drink heavily, have unprotected promiscuous sex, etc...) and need further blood work to figure out which kind, and an ultra sound of my liver. So, I get stuck in the arm that is still bruised from yesterday's blood work and have my side poked and prodded. Results of the ultra sound: abnormal; enlarged liver with noticeable fatty deposits. I can't begin to express how upset I am. My blood work from the middle of September was normal! I went on a liquid diet, lost some weight, have done everything the doctors have asked of me, only to be facing the possibility of having my surgery on Monday canceled. I feel like I could puke. I feel like my body is finally seeking its revenge on me. It's saying, "This is what you deserve, you fat bitch. This is what you get for the years of abuse." Sorry to be a downer. It's just so grotesquely disappointing to finally feel hope and to have actual goals and a plan of action set after months of preparation, only to see those dreams crumble right as I'm about to have a life changing procedure. I'm not looking for any sympathy, I just need to vent. I did this to myself and take full responsibility for my present health, but WTF! When am I going to finally catch a break?!

    December Surgery Dates

It must have been something about that day! My surgery for that date was canceled as well, so I know exactly how heartbreaking it was for you. Your new date will be here before you know it!

December 17th is my new date!

let's get to know each other

Hi everyone! My name is Trish and I am 29 years old. I live on Long Island in NY with my incredible husband of 4 years, Kevin. We have no human babies...just two friggin' great cats, Guinness and Harp. My original surgery date was for the 26th of November, but unfortunately it had to be canceled. So I find myself in a bit of a conundrum as a transplant; I'm so happy to be joining the "Merry Losers" (GREAT NAME!), but I'm sad to leave the "November Nymphs" behind. I think the happy medium for me would to be a "Merry Nymph!" I'm really looking forward to getting to know all of you and to building a strong support system!

    So absolutely disapointed

Here's the update...after all of the bloodletting there isn't anything wrong with my liver, other than she's a lard ass (yes SHE..her name is Olivia ). Thank heaven! My doctor FINALLY faxed over the consent today, two days late of course. So now I'm in limbo...I have to reschedule and mentally re-prepare myself. I'll let you all know when my new date will be. I hope you don't mind if I continue to tag along in the November group...I feel kind of funny barging in on the "Merry Losers." Thanks again to all of you for all of the moral support that you've given to me and for sharing your stories. You guys are the best!

    Sex after surgery

HA! That's friggin' awesome! The literature provided by the bariatric practice I go to said "four weeks." That seemed a bit drastic so I brought it up with the surgeon. He said to wait at least two weeks and to be "gentle" so as not to do any internal damage. When I had my gallbladder removed last summer we lasted about three days... Congratulations on your marriage!
  24. My surgeon said that the Lap-Band isn't FDA approved for anyone under 18. However, the daughter of a friend of my parents had the procedure done when she was 13. Her case was unique in that child services became involved after her middle school contacted them due to her extremely dangerous weight. She weighed close, if not more than 400 pounds. I don't know any of the specific details of her procedure, just that she had it done and looks amazing (I didn't even recognize her the last time I saw her)! Like others have said, you should really speak to your doctor, no matter how uncomfortable it feels to talk about your weight. Don't get your hopes up that you will be able to have the procedure, though. Your doctor will probably recommend a change in diet and exercise before surgery could even be considered. Plus keep in mind, the Lap-Band isn't a miracle cure that will make a person lose weight. Everyone who has the surgery must follow a nutritious diet and exercise plan if they wish to be successful. If you are able to get into the habit of eating healthy and exercising while you are still young, you may not even need to have surgery when you come of age!

    November 26th... a new start!

Congratulations and good luck to everyone being banded tomorrow! I hope that you all have speedy, pain-free recoveries...and don't need the tongs!
