    Eating Out

Depends on where you go. If you're doing to a nice supper club, look to share a plate with your hubby or order from the kids menu. Or maybe order a small appetizer (e.g. chicken wings).
  2. Same here, 3 months post op and I eat what I want. Most important is to stay hydrated and focus on your Proteins.
  3. I've dumped a few times in the last 3 months post-op: it's triggered when I eat something high in sugar or if I drink more than one beer... both of which I shouldn't be doing anyway!

    please tell me the truth

I've been drinking wine and gin-tonics starting at 2 months post-op (yeah I'm a bad boy). Haven't had any issues at all, other than a lower alcohol tolerance
  5. I'm about 2 months out. I travel alot and eating out at restaurants all the time, starting 3 weeks post op. At first, I felt very limited with the restaurant menu. For Protein I looked towards tofu and turkey/chicken, which I found easier on my new pouch. If you end up at one of Vegas' buffets, consider telling the restaurant manager about your recent WLS and see if you could eat there at kid's prices. Surprising, alot of them will allow that. At typical restaurants, you can try ordering off the kids menu or small ("petite") plates. Apps and Soups work too. If all above fails, either share a meal with your husband or order a full meal and ask them to package it to go. Hope this helps!

    Weight loss

Don't worry, weight loss can stall at times. Just make sure you're getting your required protein and water.
  7. No problems here with lemons
  8. What an interesting post! I never thought of toes and noses shrinking.

LapBand-friendly fast food (don't judge me!)

Not sure how popular my advice will be. But
  10. I didn't really have a pre-op diet until the last week when I was only able to have Protein shakes and low calorie drinks, and that diet was to help shrink my liver down to give the surgeon more room to work. Post-op is when the diet plan became rather intense. They explained to me my new pouch took about a month to heal, so in the first few weeks I was on Soups and blenderized foods. After the 6th week I was able to eat "normal" foods again, but even then I'm seeing I have to make adjustments to what foods I choose to eat. Since the pouch is so small, I'll start with the Proteins first and then some vegetables; and I'll get full off of that and end up skipping any carbs (rice, bread, etc). Carbs fill you up pretty quickly, and Protein is the most important anyway.

    Gas after surgery

Yep. GasX and walking. Eat slower. After a couple months I experienced less gas issues, maybe I've learned how to avoid?

    Dining out with coworkers?

Thanks for all the great suggestions! Doxie good point with the kids buffet, I wasn't sure how to approach that.
  13. I'm almost two months RNY post-op. I travel for work every week, and almost every weekday I'm hanging out with my coworkers. I have chose not to tell my coworkers about my surgery, but they've all noticed the 52 lbs I've lost recently. Well, it's been difficult to go out with my coworkers to restaurants. When we go to something like Chilis, they'll glance curiously at me while I take 1/2 hour to eat about 20% of my plate and leave the rest of it to go. The server doesn't help either, often she returns to the table at the end of the meal and will look nervously at my plate and ask "Was there something wrong with your food?!?"? My rehearsed reply to that is "It was great. I was not hungry". What has been everyone's experience with this? How do you handle dining out with people whom you chose not to disclose your recent WLS journey to?

    Buying new sized clothes.....

Yeah, I agree. The thrift shop and sams club is where I've been shopping so far for clothes during my weight loss. At sams they have those hidden elastic waistbands in their dress slacks that work pretty well, I'll buy a size down from what I'm actually at and they will fit fine for me. At the thrift shop I've bought a few dress shirts for a few bucks each. The thrift shop will probably get alot of business from me over the next year, both donations and purchases. But all in all I'm not complaining!
  15. I chose to tell my hiring manager about my WLS, along with only a few other close relatives and friends. I guess I wanted to impress my manager, let him know I was committed to a healthier lifestyle .. so the new me will be deserving of a big raise and promotion right? I can keep dreaming My manager was very cool with the news and was very supportive of it. No problem with the 1 week off for WLS + 2 weeks work from home to recover. As a sidenote, I chose not to tell my coworkers; although after losing over 50 lbs since August some may know what's going on.

Water and food at the same time?

I've heard the same thing others have been saying. Occasionally I'll have very small swigs of Water just to help with the eating, but otherwise avoid drinking 20 mins before and after meal time.

    Dining out with coworkers?

I can relate to that, but I don't want to play games to get a free meal. I was once a server, it's tough work!

    Dining out with coworkers?

Some restaurants do but they are probably called something else. I was recently at Ruby Tuesdays and noticed on their lunch menu they have a section called "Petite Plates" - basically a half portion of their healthier full lunch plates. For example there's a chicken Fresco - a 1/2 chicken breast in balsamic vinegarette with mashers and steamed veggies. If not, there's always the kids menu! Sometimes you even get crayons and toys to play with. Woot!

    Dining out with coworkers?

Yes cupcake, this food waste is what bothers me. Last night I ordered some six chicken wings from the restaurant appetizer menu and could only finish half of them.

    Dining out with coworkers?

Amy, that's a good point. Some of my coworkers may suspect I've had WLS and aren't saying anything out of respect. Noone has asked me yet! I bet not all of them know it.

    Dining out with coworkers?

Hey Greg. My doctor cleared me for travel three weeks after surgery, enough time in case post-op complications would arise.. which they didn't. So starting week 3 for the past 5 weeks, I've flown with no problems. In fact, I'm sitting just fine in those small airline seats without a belt extension now which is a great victory in itself. Good luck with your surgery!
  23. My surgeon told me it was ok to travel after three weeks. You don't want to travel before that in case you have complications from surgery
  24. Failure to lose weight and maintain all my life was the biggest reason I chose to have a bypass. I am almost two months postop now, and I'll tell you the weight loss hasn't been quick since. Rather its a slower but consistent loss, about 1-2 pounds a week. At that rate, it will take me about 9 months to hit my goal. That's fine with me.
