Good work. I worked my way down through "morbidly obese" and am now almost done with "very obese". I am looking forward to seeing only "obese". Har de har. My dream (probably in 2009) is to hit the wonderland of "overweight".

Did you tell others about surgery?
Foofy replied to annecolorgreen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ugh. I have no restraint. I tell anyone who asks about my weight loss. Very often, I end up pulling up my shirt and making them touch my port. There have definately been times when I wish I had kept my mouth shut about it, but that's life. -
Wow! Thanks for the insight Fanny. That would not have occured to me. In the US, many New England areas also do not pronouce their "R"s. While in other parts of the country, they throw in extra "R"s (ex. "wash" sounds like "warsh"). Didn't mean to take this thread on such a tangent, but it was educational.
-
Absolutely! So, you must pronouce "tomato sauce" kind of like "tomato source" in order for it to rhyme with "dead horse". Hee hee - craziness! My aunt is from England and grew up with Cockney rhyming slang. She says things like "apples and pears" for stairs. I didn't realize you Aussies had the same affliction.:biggrin2:

Muscle requires more calories to live than does fat, so the more muscle you have, the faster your resting metabolism. That being said, if you have a lot of muscle but just sit on the couch all day between workouts, you're going to burn fewer calories than you might if you built less muscle and got mobile. Plus, muscle is denser than fat, so you won't "look fat" if you build muscle. In my humble opinion, I suggest you try to build as much muscle as you are willing to put the time in doing, and then just move around more. If you think it makes you look fatter, cut back and it WILL go away. I think the "Body For Life" website has good thoughts on muscle. But, you've got to be serious about doing the workouts and sticking with them, or it's more like "Body for Awhile." Building muscle is kind of like painting a room a new color. If you don't like it, you can always change it. That's one gal's opinion.

Just eating less. It's a wonderful thing. -
Speaking of bikinis, I've been watching the Olympics, and it seems like the only ones who aren't wearing bikinis are the swimmers! Volleyball players, runners, etc. I remember when wearing little running shorts was kind of scandalous. Yesterday, the lady marathoners ran their hearts out, and I don't think more than a couple of them were wearing shorts. The rest of them were sporting bikinis. They looked very fit, but jeepers it made my thighs chafe just thinking of it. Obviously, those gals do NOT have thighs that rub together. Jachut - have you started running in that bikini yet, girl? Slap a little Aussie flag on your back side and get out there! ;o) Good luck on the TT Michee!

LOVE This Protein Shake!
Foofy replied to Tracyde730's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. Unjury makes a great product. If I am too tight or in a hurry, I blend one up with some fruit (try a handfull of blueberries with the chocolate - yummm). -
Anyone who said this doesn't hurt=lies!
Foofy replied to ahsem2bme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have any pain or painkillers. I did have discomfort from the gas (and a bit of the trots). Had it not been for that last feature, I would have gone back to work a few days aftr surgery. As it was, I missed three days and the weekend before going back. I DID find a WONDERFUL new device that made me very, very happy - a VIBRATING heating pad. Oh my. As my Dad would say "That's the cat's ass!" -
That's pretty amusing. We share a lot of slang terms, although some of them have me scratching my head. Dead horse = tomato sauce, really? There must be a story behind that one.
-
Here's a great one from an angry young poster on another thread.... "You don't know me from a whole in the wall!"
-
Another stumper on this site is advise vs advice. "I advise you to have the surgeon remove the loose skin after you lose weight. That's my advice."
-
Oh my. I think I hurt myself laughing over the "spectacular dummy spit". Excellent advice on this thread. Keep giving it.
-
That is by FAR the most common spelling error on this site. I'm glad it's not just me that cringes over it.

You can do it. I did a 5K 12K, half marathon, and marathon in 2005, at 250 pounds and 45 yrs. I wasn't a total couch potato before I started training, but I was close to it. The trick is to get a good training program (there are several online) and get a training buddy. Without a partner it is way too tempting to sleep in, rather than get out on the road at 6am to walk for four hours on a weekend. One of the most important (and surprising) things I learned from marathon training is that things that really seem to SUCK often get better if you tough it out. For me, the first mile of each walk was no fun and the second mile was even WORSE. However, after that, I would get in a groove and start noticing the way the air smelled and how the birds were chirping and how pretty the sunrise was. Suddenly, it DIDN'T suck anymore (until maybe mile 17). It was a good life lesson. Previous to that, I would have quit at 2 miles (when I was hating it) and never known how good it could get. I don't know what marathon you are looking at, but the Portland, Oregon marathon is very walker friendly. Good luck.

I'm here in Montana. I had a rough July weight-wise. I was on an endless plateau and then decided to go off my BP meds. Of course, I gained about 4 pounds of Water over night and it took weeks to get it off. But, I finally got another fill (first one since March). Boy, that made a difference. Perhaps this is the "Sweet spot" because I can't eat until evening and then I eat wee tiny amounts. I got it a week ago and have lost 5 pounds in that time period. Yay. Feeling good. Go Nypmhs.

Throw a slice of pizza and a scoop of ice cream in the blender. Puree. Drink three times a day. No really, I'm happy for you. I'm just grrring to myself.

Frangipani & TexasBecky get Reconstructed
Foofy replied to TexasBecky's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Becky and Frangi, what's your thigh measurement these days? I have no idea what a "normal" thigh is. Clothing charts give you sizes for hips, waist, bust, but not thighs and arms. I am wondering what I have to look forward to when my thunder thighs finally disappear. -
Frangipani & TexasBecky get Reconstructed
Foofy replied to TexasBecky's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Wow. You look great Becky. I am impressed at how tight your face looks too, given all the extra weight you started with. That gives me hop that my chins might disappear, too. Look how long and leggy you look! -
No battery needed. I haven't read much about it, but I think when they want to run the tiny motor, they induce a magnetic current from outside the skin that spins the motor. ;o)
