A new medical issue for me.

I know this is a weight loss forum, but this thread is a shining example of what a source of power and insight it is for all other issues. Many thanks to all the wonderful women who shared their knowledge, experiences, and love with Longhorn and each other - and best of luck Longhorn. Your band sisters know that whatever it turns out to be you will be victorious!!!

    I've swapped addictions...

LOL. I haven't seen much of my collar bones yet. I like to lay in bed and pinch my belly roll and visulalize how much closer together my fingertips are getting. NurseAmys tummy photos are really inspiring me. I also like to touch my port as a reminder that it is working quietly at its job. I ask other people if they want to touch it, too. OMG.

A new medical issue for me.

I hope the lab news was good Longhorn. My fingers are crossed for you. BTW, I just got out of MY pap appointment (loads of fun), which I scheduled because of your post. Thanks again for the reminder. On the plus side, this is the frst time I have gone in and weighed 30 pounds less than the previous appointment. I had a great big smile on my face (until my feet went into the stirrups and I heard the snap of the latex glove). I even let the NP feel my port, and I explained how the band works.
  5. Congrtulations!!! Best wishes for a speedy recovery and great results!

    Treadmill VS Elliptical

I have a Precor eliptical. It's great, but it cost about $2000 five years ago. It weighs a TON. It took two beefy delivery guys at least 15 minutes to get it up our stairs. We joke that when we sell the house, it's staying. I would be veeeery suspicious of a $189 eliptical trainer.

    Outpatient turned Inpatient

I stayed overnight because I was from out of town. Since I had to come back the next day for the barium swallow, they let me decide in early afternoon if I wanted to stay or go to a hotel. I thought it would be better to be hooked to the IVs and monitors, so I stayed. In hindsight, I may have gotten better sleep in hotel, as monitors and alrams were going off all night and I had a noisy roommate (she had just had gastric bypass and was in a LOT of pain).

    Dr. Lomonaco in Houston?

He has said that if you leave him a post in this PS forum titled "Question for Dr. Lo", he will respond to it within a few days.
  9. Dear Wombat - I knew if ANYONE could bring order to the table, it would be YOU! Every table you have ever been a part of has been beautifully organized. Thank you thank you thank you.

    Dry skin...

Often, people who are dieting are trying to cut out too much fat. You need fat to make your body function properly. Stay away from saturated and hydrogentated fats, but incorporate good poly- and mono-unsaturated fats in your diet. A little olive or flax seed oil is great. Also, fish, walnuts, peanuts, avocados, etc. are all good sources of healthy fat. You will definately see a difference in your skin.

    Need postop expertise!

It varies with every person, with how tight your band is, and with other factors (like water gain from period for women). If you read 50 posts, you'll get 50 different answers.
  12. As far as I can tell, there is nothing that I CAN'T eat, but I am going to paste the doughnut warning in my brain to save me from temptation. Thank goodness I don't have Sue's problem with tuna, because I eat it 5 times a week. The mental image of having shrimp come out my nose (Gloucester) made me howl, but it was probably not funny while it was happening. I have yet to PB, but I have had my share of improperly-chewed bites that jammed in my throat for a few minutes making my eyes water and reminding me to SLOW DOWN.

    Swimming and Excess Skin

Ditto that! Thanks for the laugh. I remember someone before who posted saying that she looked like a flying squirrell in her swimsuit. LOL!! Attitude is everything.

    What are you eating Nymph's?

Imonmyway, Elimination is one of the basic functions of your body. You should definately focus on getting more fiber to keep everything moving along. Your body needs to "take out the trash" in order to keep its house in order. Water and excercise both help to move that process along, too. Good luck.
  18. Wow!!! You look great Amy!!!! Nice manicure too, LOL. You are obviously an organized person if you can pull that off along with the plastic surgery. Your results are very inspiring. I can't wait to see the progression over time.

A new medical issue for me.

Sorry for you troubles Longhorn. I will send positive energy your way. For what it's worth, I have friends who have had hysterectomies or ablations, and they were happy with the decisions they made. At least that seems to be an area where medical science is pretty good in solving problems. Also, you appear to be someone who gets on top of problems right away, rather than ignoring them for a long time. That's a good sign. Your post made me realize that I am a few months late for both my mam and my pap. Thank you for the reminder. I will call my ob/gyn Monday. I am sure there are other women reading these messages who will also be reminded to get their essential check ups in. Your post may save lives. Fabulous! Best of luck next week!!!
  22. Sorry xxlaynexx, I didn't mean to exclude you. A brach is brachioplasty (I hoped I spelled that right), which is plastic surgery on your arms.
  23. Great post Steph. You are definately on the right track. It's a real sign of maturity to freak out, think about it, and then look for (and share) "lessons learned." Bravo! I soooo understand your concerns about counseling. I am a manic researcher and read like crazy, so everytime I think about hiring a professional (counselor/financial planner/nutritionist/trainer/etc), I worry that they won't be the "right one" and I will have wasted my money and not learned anything. So, I chicken out and don't do it. I think it's part of always needing to be in control. I am trying to change that way of thinking and relax enough to seek out various types of help, but it's not easy. If you figure out the answer, let us know.
  24. Thanks Kacee, That's still pretty tough for a guy (my DH) whose life is brewing and drinking beer. I think something will have to happen to his knees or other parts first before I can convince him to take the plunge....
