Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
ekgray replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for responding. I was banded October 12, 2007. The exercise I was doing was with the big ball....called a body ball, doing push ups, lateral raises and leg raises. You lay on the ball with your stomach and balance before you raise your arm, and then your leg. Your whole body weight is on your stomach. I placed a call to the doctor, but it is not an emergency, so won't hear until next week. It just didn't feel like using a muscle I haven't used. Went to the Y this morning and talked to the instructor and she said there are other moves I could make that doesn't put me on my belly. So until I find out, I will avoid. Thanks again. I am 70 so I know what you mean by cutting you open. I probably have that kind of scar tissue too. -

I have to be the biggest failure here!

Thanks again Christal. I go in for another fill on Feb 4th, and hope that will do it for me. My problem is: when I am hungry...I EAT. -

WOW, this is just what we need, someone to KICK US IN THE BUTT and tell it like it is. I am one of those that has been eating bread, steak, french fries etc, and feeling sorry for myself. I was banded on Oct 12th and am ashamed to say I have lost only 4 pounds since surgery. I need to take control of myself. Thanks -

Hey Indio girl.....now that is STRAIGHT TALK. We all needed your pep talk. Thanks -
Boy, are we alike.....I did the same thing only it was french fries (large size). Then last night before I went to bed I ate 2 hamburger patties. What is the daily plate? I'm not sure I really want to know, but I'll ask anyway. Maybe our problem is the cold weather...trying to do better today. Kathy

You are not the biggest failure ......I am. Surgery date 12 Oct 2007 What is it with the October banders? -
Hi again, we know Wisconsin pretty well. We spent several weeks in the area and of course went to Wi Dells (very unusual place) also House on the Rocks. I really like the geology you find in different parts of the country. I would also like to see NY City as we avoided it in our travels as my husband wanted nothing to do with that traffic. I may also do ww. Getting pretty disgusted with myself. Will tell my Doctor to just go ahead and close it as much as possible and let 's see what happens. I am getting desperate. My kids all supported my surgery and encouraged me by beginning to call me the incredible shrinking woman. I don't want to face them. I live in Oregon now and they have some great campgrounds here also, but we do not have the RV anymore. I got really tired of only 1 bathroom, and no washer and dryer. Thanks for the info on the ticker......I will try it. Kathy

My name is Kathy. I am so sorry about your oldest son. There is nothing worse than losing a child. No wonder you gained weight. You talk about close campgrounds.....where do you live? Will try to get some cool fancy stuff. Kathy

WOW!!!! Sure hope this is not what is wrong with me. I have no suggestions. -
Boy o boy, another almost seventy. My surgery was Oct 12th by Dr Jan at Legacy Good Sam Hospital in Portland, Oregon. I am a grandma of 6, great grandma of 1, married 52 years to the same man (amazing) have 5 children. Born in Los Angeles, married at 18, right after graduation, to Sailor from Selma, Alabama. Moved to Alabama and lived there for 10 years. Then transfered to Sacramento, Ca, where we lived until 1987 when we both retired. Traveled for 13 years in an RV. Settled in Gulf Shores, Alabama from 2000 until 2005. Moved to Oregon when the hurricanes destroyed our home. No hurricanes, tornados, or breath taking humidity here. Hobbies are photography, politics, would love to learn to paint. We have a cat, 10 years old named Miss Priss, and she rules the household. Nice to meet you. Tell me more about you. How do you get all that fancy stuff at your name?

You sound like you are well informed, good luck to you on your surgery. Each person is different, and I hope to start losing after my next fill on the 4th. Thanks for responding. That is what is so great about this forum.

Hey....I was seventy last August 23rd. I also am very happy to find more out there my age. I too was thinking all the others were much younger. When is your birthday? :rolleyes2:
-
You sound like you are doing just fine for having surgery last week. I can eat anything I want (that's the problem) and had that full feeling last month when I had my 4cc fill. But it didn't last very long. As for exercise, I started treadmill at 2 weeks, working up from 5 minutes at a time to over 30 minutes a day now. I also go to the Y for the Silver sneakers program, and have just started using the equipment. I still have swelling of the ankles although I do not eat salt. I go back to the doctor on the 4th. :rolleyes2:

I am 70, was banded on Oct 12, 2007. Have had a 4cc fill. only lost 15 pounds total so far.......what is wrong with me? This is very discouraging. My whole family is watching!!! ekgray -
I don't know about your insurance, but I do know about the lapband. I was banded on 12 October 2007, just 3 weeks ago. The first week or so was rough, but am now feeling good, exercising on my treadmill at least 30 minutes a day, sometimes more...and I am 70 years old. Your insurance will probably come around because this surgery is better than the more invasive one. In my opinion. I am lookinf forward to the rest of my life. ekgray

Had lap-band on October 12, 2007 at Legacy Good Sam Hospital in Portland, Oregon. My Doctor is Jay Jan. Everything went fine and I am up and about. Joined the support group at the Hospital but it is so very new that there are only a few members, and no action on the net. I need to be able to talk to other people who have had the surgery and discuss what is happening to me now.

PLEASE HELP!!!! binging and head hunger??
ekgray replied to mejr62's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, you haven't had surgery yet? I binged for two weeks on everything I liked. Then just one week before surgery I really got serious and buckled down and lost 11 lbs before surgery. -
Me too, I had to stay overnight and then when they were ready to let me go I got sick to my stomach and they let me stay another night. My travel to home was a 4 hour drive.
-
contact us all again tomorrow and let us know how your night was.

Hi Brandy.....I had to go to Portland because of my age....70... Portland was the only place where they would take Medicare patients. That's how I got from Canyonville to Portland. Good luck to you tomorrow. It is worth it.
