  1. Yes I am dealing with the head hunger. I was banded on Dec 31, 2007 & I think about the foods I want so bad, and keep thinking that I will have a few bites of my favorites before I go and get my fill at the end of the month. I saw the dogs squeeky cheeseburger toy in the yard yesterday and it made my mouth water. ha (I'm sick) So far I have been making better choices. When you get to the mushy stage, have some squash casserole, it is so yummy. Good luck you are not alone.
  2. I packed alot of stuff, but only used my chapstick and robe. They gave me slipper sox and a gown to wear. You might want to bring a hair brush because my hair was looking messy for the ride home. Oh ya definitely bring a pillow for the ride home to help with your stomach area when you go over bumps. Best Wishes
  3. Road King (Diane) I did the pre-op starting Dec 22 with liquids only, and got a break on Christmas day and ate one meal that was not liquid and then back on liquids until the 31st. After surgery I had clear liquids for 3 days, then 3-7 days had full liquids, then mushy for two weeks. I will be able to start my regular foods at the end of this month. I had squash cassarole from Black Eye Pea for lunch and it was wonderful and filling.
  4. Road King, I have had a good experience so far. I did have the gas and shoulder pain after surgery. My husband gave me a good massage and took my pain meds and it helped. I lost 16 pounds on the pre-op diet and have lost 12 more since surgery. I couldnt lay down for about 2 nights and slept sitting up in bed. I guess my swelling has gone down bec I am starting to feel more hunger, but I am fighting it and filling up on water and really watching what I eat. I went back to work after one week but I have a desk job so it hasnt been a problem, but I am exhausted at the end of the day and hit the sheets about 8:00 pm. I would suggest if possible you have someone with you at home for at least the first three days just to help with the small stuff. I am dealing with the head hunger now. I will admit I did have one french fry last night but I chewed it well. I am still on mushies until 1/21. Good luck hope it goes smooth for you.
  5. Welcome Pipa, where are you in TX I live in Houston. I had my surgery on Dec 31st. Good luck on your surgery and you might see if your doctors office can recommend a lap band support group. You would definitely make some friends and get alot of support. Take care.
  6. One day I picked up my daughter at daycare and went to my car. I was already inside the car and this man parked right in front of me where I didnt think I could pull out without hitting him. I rolled down my window and said excuse me you are blocking my car. He said "if you would lose some weight then maybe you could squeeze out" I was livid and lost control and just hit the gas while screaming curse words at him. Fortunately my angels must have moved his vehicle some because I didnt hit his car. I saw him several other times in the parking lot and I just gave him dirty looks. I now use another daycare. There are alot of jerks out there!!

    OWW The Gas!!

I had surgery 10 days ago and the first two days the pain in my shoulder was so painful. I got my husband to give me a good massage and it really helped. I came back to work after 7 days and I brought the heating pad and Ive used it everyday. Maybe trying taking a hot shower or using bengay on your shoulder. Good luck it does get better. By the way I had my first mushy yesterdayand it was so good. Never thought cream of wheat would be so good. Ive now lost 28 pounds all together including my 16 preop weight loss. Good luck to all!
  9. Rainy Day, I had an epidural 11 years ago with the birth of my daughter. By the time she was born (naturally) the epidural had worn off and they were doing my episiotomy and I could feel the pain of being stitched. I just had my lap band 10 days ago and did not have any problem with the anesthesia. But discuss your fears with the doctor. Good luck.

    Back to Reality

Justin, I know we all feel the same way and wish we could all meet at a buffet! ha But we can't, so hang tough and drink something yummy and warm. Try a cup of sf hot chocolate. Best of luck.
  11. Had my surgery on Dec 31st and I returned to work this morning. I work in an office and sit at my desk most of the day. I am feeling tired and weak. I will make it through the day. I think I will take a nap for lunch. I keep getting hot and cold. I am starting to feel hungry, but can only have 1/4 cup of cream soups, yogart, protein drinks. I can't wait until the mushy stage next week. Is it Friday yet? :faint:
  12. Bullpen, I have only been banded 9 days but Ive already lost about 20 pounds including my pre-op weight loss. I noticed that my gut wasnt as close to the steering wheel this morning. I can already walk further without getting so out of breath. It is a nice start. I just feel lighter already. Keep up the good work.

    waking up after surgery

Joanna 240 I had my surgery five days ago. I woke up to the nurse calling my name and shaking me kind of hard. My throat was sore and the first thing I ask was how was my liver? I worked so hard for a week and a half before surgery doing the liquid diet & losing 16 pounds I wanted to know if it was smaller. But the doctor said no it was still fatty. That just made me so upset even though the surgery went just fine. It's funny what upsets you. I did feel groggy most of the day and didnt have much pain and got to go home that evening with a pain pump attached. I have taken pain medicine twice a day since just to help me sleep. The biggest problem I am having is with head hunger. I think in general its like having babies, they all come out the same way, but each of us has our own war story for labor and delivery. Good luck to you.

    Hi from TX!

Howdy From Houston, I will be banded tomorow morning by Dr. Scarborough with UT Physcians. I am starving because I have been on a liquid diet for a week. It has been so hard on me and my family because you get a little crazy and cranky when you are hungry! I am so ready to get this over with so I can eat again!! I am looking forward to the mushy stage with real food. I have Cigna insurance and had to do the six months supervised diet before I was approved. I am so glad to see all the people from Texas and all the success stories. Although I have full confidence in my doctor, I am starting to get NERVOUS! I know its normal and I will get thru it. Just wanted to say thanks to all who post there experiences and encourgement it helps so much. As for all the newbies to the site, welcome and keep reading because you will learn more here than you ever could just from the doctors office. Happy New Year to all. I hope 2008 will be a healthier one for all of us. :kiss2:
  15. I also have acid reflux and take a prescription daily, but Ive been on my liquid diet for six days. I noticed today that I havent taken my medication or had any reflux since I started the liquid diet. So I am hopeful that I will be reflux free also.

Sleep Apena ~*~ I need it!!!!

Odawa How sure are you about not being able to use your cpap machine for six weeks after lapband surgery? I just had my pre-op appt with my surgeon and he didnt mention anything about it. I ask if I need to bring it to the hospital and he said no since I will have out patient surgery it is not necessary. I love my cpap and can't sleep without it.

    the last hurrah?

I am scheduled for my surgery on Dec 31st and I am going crazy eating nachos as one of my last meals. I had them about four times lately. I was so shocked when I went to the doctor today and had actually lost 3 pounds. I had my rib eye the other night. It was so good!!! Your not alone, but I do think we will be able to eat some good foods in the future but in much smaller portions. I start my clear liquids on Dec 25th. Good luck to all.
  19. Did you actually have to wear your cpap mask during the lapband surgery? I have a bi-pap and during my sleep study I quit breathing 401 times during the night. I now sleep with my machine all the time and I just love it bec I sleep so much better and feel rested.

    Please help me...

CryNside First dry your tears, you are definitely in the right place for answers. The first thing is to find a surgeon who performs the surgery. Call the surgeons office and find out about a seminar. You will meet alot of other people starting the journey and lots of information you will need. You can also check with your insurance company and see if they cover the surgery. After you attend the seminar you can make a doctors appt with the surgeon and find out all you can about the doctor. Good luck, you have already started the journey without even knowing it. Also keep reading all the post on this site, because I have learned so much from it. I will be banded on Dec 31st and can't wait. We all want the same thing, a better healthier lifestyle. Keep reading the post.
  21. Hi I am in Houston also and I will be banded on Dec 31st and I will use UT Physcian Dr. Terry K. Scarborough. I have two friends who used him and he is very experienced in lap band. He also teaches at Baylor and his credentials are great. I have every confidence in his ability. Good luck and best wishes.

    Did you Tell your Kids???

FLMan I had decided not to tell my 11 year old daughter until the day of surgery because I knew she would worry. When I went to see the therapist for my lap band evaluation, I ask her what she thought and she said that I should tell her asap and let her ask me any questions and answer them to the best of my ability. She said that otherwise my daughter would assume things that might not be true and cause her to over worry. So that day I sat down and told my daughter and explained everything to her and answered all her questions and she has been great about it. I told her that she and daddy could go and have breakfast while I was in surgery. One of her questions was do you think they serve pancakes in the hospital cafeteria. ha ha It's up to you, but I feel better having told my daughter the truth. Good luck and best wishes. My surgery date is New Years Eve!!! I will be having Vicodin instead of Champagne.
  24. I have been reading the post for months waiting for my approval and surgery date. I am so excited that I will starting 2008 with the lapband. This is my first post so hopefully I am doing it right. A little about myself I am married and have a very supportive husband and one daughter. I have been overweight since puberty. I did successfully lose 80 pounds about twelve years ago but of course gained it back plus more. I have Cigna insurance and it took me six months of doctors supervised visits and with high bp,sleep apnea, diabetes, gerd, hyperthyroid I was fortunately to be approved on the first try. I live in Houston Texas and use Dr. Terry Scarborough with U.T. Physcians. I am so glad I found this website and want to thank all of you for the laughs, tears and good advice I have learned from reading all the post. We are all in the same boat, I hope it doesnt sink. ha Just wanted to say hello and share my good news with the gang. Keep posting I am learning something new everyday.
  25. You are not alone, I will be banded on Dec 31st and I get so excited and then I start to get scared. I keep trying to focus on the positives. Just coming to work this morning I was trying to sing but get so winded because of my weight so I am looking forward to the small things. I have not been able to wear my wedding or engagement ring for about three years because of my weight and that is my first goal. I am not going to concentrate on the scales or inches just small things that I miss being able to do now. I can understand how you feel about your daughter I have an eleven year old and although I have full confidence in my surgeon, I checked him out and he is an expert in his field and that helps me feel more confident. I am planning on writing a letter to my daughter before I have surgery, just incase so she will know why I took such a chance on improving my life by having the surgery for me and for her. I will tell her how much I treasure her and how important she is to me. I want to be able to do things with her that I am just to tired and unable to do with this body. I know that many others feel the same way, scared, excited, worried. When I am laying in bed and start thinking I stop myself by saying Hey it's time to sleep, you can start worrying at 5:15am when the alarm goes off. It doesnt always work but sometimes it does. Also prayer doesnt hurt either. Best wishes for a safe and speedy surgery & recovery.
