Hi again Bigb, You already probably know that drinking with or straight after meals is a no-no because it helps the food move through into the big stomach below your banded one, so the feeling of satiety (if you have it) doesn't last as long as it should. I have found it hard not to drink after a meal, but if I distract myself straight after the meal, by doing the dishes, or something, before I know it, an hour or 2 has gone by, and drinking is ok. Maybe this could be part of why you are still hungry after eating. (not the emotional hunger of course). Don't give up!

Hi Bigb, I feel for you. I'm in the same emotional boat - hard to overcome old emotional eating habits, although now I at least eat less. I have just had my 2nd fill, but don't feel any more restriction than after the 1st fill. Dr says everyone is different and it takes a few fills to get the right balance. I only lost 2lbs over the last month!! Maybe your eating has stretched the band? What does your Dr think? Good luck anyway, it is a constant battle.

Hi jarvisj, Why is it anyone's business but your own? Your boss certainly doesn't need to know and if your MIL doesn't speak to you for 6 months, that mightn't be a bad thing!!! It's hard for me to understand the negativity because I have had support from those I have chosen to tell. One friend said I wasn't fat enough, and didn't need to do it, so I explained that I've struggled all my life, and don't want to end up with obesity related diseases as I had lots of living to do. Just tell those you feel comfortable telling and let everyone else take a hike (I know, easy for me to say). Hope you find a way that suits you, and good luck.

Are fills painful? Banded 2 weeks ago!
Jenny W replied to Nick the Nurse's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Nick, I had my first fill a couple of days ago (3 weeks post-op here in Australia) - it was virtually painless. Hope yours is too! Good luck, Jenny -
Post-op: How long until you progressed to solid food?
Jenny W replied to Constance's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi Karen, I'm in Australia too (Victoria!). I too started mushies early because I was so hungry and weak. After about a week I progressed to more solid food with no worries. I had my first fill yesterday and was advised I may need to revert to fluids for a day or 2, but I have been fine. Just making sure I chew thoroughly, eat slowly, and small portions. I was worried that I was progressing too quickly too, but Dr said everyone is different - it's trial and error for the next few months. By the way, I lost 3 1/2 kg, so I must have done ok! Best wishes, Jenny -
Post-op: How long until you progressed to solid food?
Jenny W replied to Constance's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I only had 4 days on liquids because I was so hungry and feeling weak, I was allowed on to mushies 1 1/2 weeks early! But the ideas was: 1 1/2 - 2 weeks liquids, 2 weeks mushies, then gradually more and more solid. -
No. I was banded about 20 days ago. I can feel the port under the skin, but no tennis ball! Better get it checked out I think! Good luck.

Good on you Patty - it only gets better and better!!

Hi everyone, Need some advice please. I was banded 12 days ago, am on mushies, and unfortunately ate quite a lot of ice cream today - my emotional hunger got the better of me. I really thought I wouldn't be able to do this anymore, and am disappointed in myself. Even when I just eat the mushies, I feel I might be eating a bit more than I should, but I get hungry. Has anyone else had similar problems? Thanks, Jenny:confused::hungry:

I know this is getting off the subject, but, can anyone tell me how to transfer my ticker factory thingy to my (wherever it goes). I picked one out but didn't know where to put it! You can obviously tell I'm not too computer literate!!! Thanks for any help.

My nurse made me feel like a failure and a PIG
Jenny W replied to kbear's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with everyone - that "nurse" should not be working with lapband patients. We all need support and encouragement. I'm in the same boat as you, in that I feel I can still eat quite a lot, and am hungry - but compared with what I used to eat, it is still less, so that's gotta be good. By the sound of it, after the first fill, things will start to change. Don't let the nurse get you down (I suppose she was stick thin, was she?!!) -
Banded on the 15th..and I'm in SO much PAIN
Jenny W replied to NP1978's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
:DHi Ann, Yes, we'll all be in our bikinis before long, won't we? The port site is still a bit sore, all other incisions are fine. I'm finding it frustrating trying to remember not to drink straight after meals etc., but it's just another new habit to learn I guess. I haven't weighed myself, can't see any weight loss yet except my face feels a bit thinner. I still feel a bit bloated - don't know if it's the surgery or just my fat!!! Not long now till yours. You'll be glad when it's over. Will be thinking of you on the 6th (which will be the 7th here!!!). Good luck, Jenny -

Yes Ann, I thought it was great you snorkel. I would be too embarrassed to put on a swimsuit, or anything else!! Next Dr appointment 12th November. -
Thanks Make 33, for the info. I do remember that protein keeps you feeling full for longer - so I'll up the protein a bit and see what happens.
-
Thanks to everyone for their advice. I might try the Protein shakes. Hey, Make33, what is this about losing your hair?? Also, are others out there still struggling with eating emotionally (even though the band makes you feel full)? Thanks, Jenny :hungry:

Banded on the 15th..and I'm in SO much PAIN
Jenny W replied to NP1978's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Ann, I sort of measure what I eat, one serve is about 1/4 cup. So I would have 3 serves vegetables plus 40-50grams of protein (in my case tofu, fish etc. cause I'm vegetarian). Yes, losing Steve Irwin was awful. He was terrific. It just shouldn't have happened. Let us know how you go following banding! Jenny -

Jenny W replied to NP1978's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Ann, Mushies are fine - heaps better than just fluids. But I still think I'm able to eat more than I should - I haven't seen much weight loss yet. I was wary of eating at the beginning, but hunger and habit took over! You'll be glad to get the op behind you I'm sure. I haven't visited Long Island, but did NYC to LA by coach in 2000 - really good! My favourites - NYC, Bryce Canyon and Mt Rushmore. Want to come back one day! Thinking of you as you get closer to band date! Jenny -

Jenny W replied to NP1978's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Ann, I meant to reply earlier and thank you for your message. You'll be fine, try not to worry. I'm about 11 days post surgery now and feel almost normal apart from a little sore at port site. I still feel like I can eat perhaps more than I should, although not nearly as much as I used to, but of course I haven't had a fill yet. I'm in Australia. Where are you? Jenny:) -

Banded on the 15th..and I'm in SO much PAIN
Jenny W replied to NP1978's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's amazing what a difference 24 hours can make. After my visit to G.P., finding this forum (which answered a lot of my queries), and talking to the dietitian (who said I could start mushy solids), I'm feeling less pain and much more positive. I haven't had an operation before, so that's probably why the pain was a bit of a shock. :rolleyes The hunger (and resulting lethargy) is better now I have started on solids. So, anyone who's banding is coming up, take heart. Yesterday I wanted to rip it out, today I'm happy it's there!!! -

Jenny W replied to NP1978's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on the 19th and didn't expect as much pain or difficulty moving around. I was in tears at my doctor's today, thinking I'd made a terrible decision. I also feel weak and lethargic from just taking fluids. I don't feel I was adequately informed about the emotional side of this surgery. You are definitely not alone!
