  1. Even though my surgery was Nov. 9th, I still haven't had my first fill yet because I got sick (flu) and have been a slow healer. My Dr. also told me that my port was positioned very deeply. On my last check up a month ago, my Dr. was feeling around for my port and said it would be a good idea to wait till a dropped some more weight so it was easier to find my port. After a month, I don't think I've lost any weight. Actually, I might have gained a bit. Now I'm afraid that since my port is very deep that I won't be able to get a fill. My appt. is Monday the 7th. Does anyone else have deep port problems? I'm actually pretty surprised I had so much abdominal fat....I'm 5'7", 211lbs and my weight is pretty evenly distributed.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

    Too Fat for a Fill?

    Bay Area Bandsters!!! anyone here?

Hi there...I'm living in Vacaville but I had my lapband done a month ago by Dr. Husted at CPMC in San Francisco. I've only lost about 8 lbs so far but I've had some complications that I'm just getting over. Hope you both are doing well!
  4. HI Cookielover--I know you don't know me and there is a matter close to your heart, but I'd like to give you my support. My name is Ann, and I've been banded for a week after a lifetime of child, adolescent, and young adult obesity. My first response to this letter is " Wow. This is all about HER past issues and how she's been ignoring them--not Cookielover!" Now I'm angry for you because all of us WLS people deserve open, supportive relationships in our lives. Please remind yourself over and over again that some people, regardless of how long we've known them, can have quirks, buttons, and other "baggage" that completely obscures empathy and objectivity--qualities that are so needed in pivotal times. I wish your friend had the spiritual maturity to support you on your path while she goes down her own. I really hope that the tried and true qualities of such a time-tested friendship can perservere and bring you two together again. If that isn't to be, all I can say is I would try to tuck her away into a special place in my heart and keep moving forward. Please remember to take care of your health during this emotionally stressful time--it can really take a toll on your body! Best wishes, Ann
  5. I was just banded yesterday afternoon and left the hospital by 10:30pm. I've been able to consistently walk :phanvan:phanvanand take in Water but I'm worried about using too much of my pain meds, even though they really work! I'm on liquid Vicadin and I see a lot of people here on Liquid Tylenol so I think I'm being a sissy about my incisions hurting/soreness. Without the full dose of meds, it hurts to breathe deeply and be in most sitting positions. Anyone else experienced this? My Dr. also told me that I did have a lot of abdominal fat, which meant that my port had to be placed deeply in the tissue and he'd have to use a long needle to fill me--eep! In pain and nervous!
  6. I was banded on 11/9 too. I'm even on liquid Hydrocodone (just ran out) and still in pain because apparently I'm a big wuss as well. My Dr. gave me Prevacid and an anti-nausea pill (very small pill I take with warm tea) that have helped stablize my stomach very well. I'm still taking it slow and doing broths only. Are you taking Gax-x strips too? I've found those to be helpful.
  7. I am RIGHT there with you on the Vicadin today, ChubbyDiva. I'm definitely going to take my full dose to sleep tonight as well. Also, the Gas-X strips seems to be helping as well!

    period same day as surgery

I hope your period lightens up before surgery--it's hard when they just tell you to "wait things out." I had the heaviest day of my period on my surgery day. The nurses were very nice and provided me with this soft, close-fitting mesh underwear and a gigantic pad that I put on right before I went into the OR. When I got oriented in recovery I was able to mention it to the nurse and I was given another pad and helped to the bathroom. Just take everything slow and don't be afraid to ask for help!
  9. Cindy, My Dr. gave me the chewable Prevacid--very easy to take because it melts on your tongue and doesn't taste too bad at all. I do have a regular pill for anti-nausea though--but I think it's smaller than a tic tac and I take it with warm tea to help it go down. No problems so far.
  10. Thank you for your quick replies! It's so good to know that others have struggled/are struggling with me. I went ahead and took my full dose of liquid Vicodin along with the Prevacid and ant-nausea pill he prescribed. After all, it is still only my first full day of recovery. Chubby Diva, it must be the gas pains that are bothering me most! Hope you feel some relief soon. Thanks again!

    cheating on PREOP DIET

I'm so glad this post was started--I'm only having to do a week of liquid protein and I cheated on my first day! Today is the second day, and it's still not over yet. I have no idea how I'll get through this week!
