I've noticed that a few people on here have had surgery for a bowel obstruction. Is this band related, or just coincidence? It's never occurred to me until now, but I don't track my Fiber intake. With our high Protein diet, is getting in the recommended amount of fiber even possible? How much fiber do you guys get in a day? If you supplement, can you recommend a good one (and please don't say metamucil - blech!). Thanks!

I drink coffee every day, usually 1-3 cups. I like mine black. All of the studies that have come out about coffee are confusing and contradictory so I've decided to ignore them too. I just bought my DH a fancy coffee/expresso maker for Christmas. It was supposed to be a big surprise, but he saw the box! Shoulda shipped it to my Mom's...

food porn! That's hilarious... Great NSV, thanks for sharing!
-
Very helpful - thanks! I've had two c-sections myself, so it sounds like I should take the extra precaution of a fiber supplement just in case. So, the tubing got WRAPPED AROUND YOUR INTESTINES? That sounds like something out of a horror movie... Thanks for all the helpful info everyone! You guys are the best.

I know! I'm guessing the hat came from our very own Vinesqueen for the gift exchange. It's too cute! And you said you didn't want one...

Paul, you're not really selling me on the poop shakes (for some strange reason). Although it sounds like a drink my 5 year old son would happily try... I think I'll try the Benefiber.

Have a fun trip! There's nothing like a few days away to recharge, and you certainly deserve it. We cancelled our Vegas trip (too expensive this year, sob!!) but I need to book us into a hotel away from the kids or you're going to see me on the news. Bandster slays family, tonight at 11...

Wow, that must have felt great! I believe I hopped right into 16's when I was a child, so I've never known that feeling, but I can guess that it feels amazing!!
-
Glad to hear you're home and recovering with your new band! Feel better soon.

I was also told to regard the band as permanent. From a mental preparedness standpoint, I think it's important to look at it this way... If someone did this as a temporary fix, it would be all too easy to approach this as another fad diet instead of a permanent lifestyle change.

I too have one of those hubbies who never made me feel bad about gaining weight. I totally agree about the blessing/curse thing... Your DH sounds like a keeper! Congratulations on your weight loss!!

That is so cool! What an adrenaline rush that must have been... and to feel the extra confidence from your weight loss must have felt phenomenal!!

Michelle, I am so glad to hear that you are home and recovering. Feel better soon!

Candice, PB stands for "productive burp". It occurs when food gets stuck in the stoma. Sometimes it passes through, and sometimes it has to come back up. I've been banded for 4 months and I've PB'd 3 times. Once was before my first fill. It was no big deal, and didn't feel like vomiting at all. Since then, I've had two big PB's where I did experience vomit-like heaves to get the food out. Not quite as bad as vomiting, but definitely worse than a burp. I've been very careful since then and I haven't had one now in 2 months.

With all of the excitement on the board recently, I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who is re-dedicating themselves to "treating the band right". I have been guilty of the following sins against the band, and here is my confession: 1. I don't take my supplements regularly. 2. I have no idea if I'm getting enough Protein because I'm not keeping track. I suspect I'm only getting in around 35 grams/day. 3. I don't get in 8 glasses of Water a day. 4. I am eating few (if any) fruits and veggies, but always manage to find room for crap. 5. I'm not exercising. 6. I'm eating too quickly and beyond full to the point of pain at least once a day (not PB'ing, but pain cannot be good). So, in front of God, Allah, Buddah, and my fellow bandsters I vow to do the following: 1. Start my day with my uber Protein shake BEFORE I let myself drink coffee (1 scoop unjury plus carnation plus milk = 35 grams of protein). 2. Exercise 4 days a week. Today is the day I dust off my $3500 elliptical machine (yes, you read that correctly - I'm blushing in shame). 3. Drink water and learn how to time it correctly so that I'm not washing my food out of my stomach. 4. Take my supplements EVERY DAY. 5. Slow down, slow down, slow down when I eat. Stop eating at the first sign of fullness. 6. Eat at least one piece of fruit for a snack every day. I know this doesn't seem like a lot, but it's a big step up from nothing. I've just taken my supplement and I drank my protein shake. I'm heading upstairs to drag the workout clothes from the mothballs. Wish me luck!

No worries - you're going to do great! Good luck Thursday! -
I was thinking the same thing Jacqui. Candysmooch, I think your metabolism needs a good swift kick in the behind. Cardio is the only way to do that. Also, you might want to try tracking your calories for a few days just to double check. You said on the other thread that you're eating 1500 cals/day. I've noticed in the past that if I eat around 1800 cals/day I maintain my weight. Is it possible that you're getting in a little more than you think? Most bandsters stick around 1200 cals. I personally have no idea how many calories I'm eating - I'm just quoting the number I hear most often on this board. Maybe a combo of lowering your intake to 1200 calories and a good cardiovascular workout would help kickstart your loss. Just my thoughts... Try it for a week and see how you do. Good luck! On another thread related note: I did it! I drank my Water, ate my Protein, and exercised today. My thighs are aching, but I hope I'm not in too much pain tomorrow because I'm getting my booty back on the elliptical in the morning!

1. What does your handle mean? It's a combination of my first and last name (Anne Wynne) 2. What book are you currently reading, or did you last read? My current Entertainment Weekly and a trashy historical novel 3. What do you do for a living? I'm a stay-at-home mom to a 5 year old boy and a 2 year old girl. Both are adorable redheads (if I do say so myself). 4. For what in your life are you most grateful? My health and my family. 5. What's one thing about you that you think would surprise other people? I was a sniper in the Marines. Just kidding! Sorry - can't think of anything, my life is an open book. 6. One word to describe yourself? Empathetic 7. One word others use to describe you? Nice 8. Would you rather play a game with someone better or worse at it than you? Better, otherwise it's no fun trying to win. 9. Favorite movie? Favorite show? Movie: The Princess Bride Show: Desperate Housewives, Grays Anatomy 10. Something unusual about yourself? I have an identical twin sister

I'm sorry to hear about your port! My doctor told me that he used to place the port on the rib, but that he soon switched to a lower location. He said that it was easier to fill the band this way.

Thanks for the info Jacqui! I made it 30 minutes on the elliptical but I had to keep it at the lowest elevation and resistance. So, I'm not ready for cardiocoach yet but I'll keep it in mind for the future. I have a treadmill with a cardiocoach type CD built in, and I love it. I find working out without music almost unbearable. My iPod is broken, so I spent the 30 minutes staring at a closet. Ugh! I'll have to drag a radio in tomorrow...

I got 7/10... DH is a computer programmer, I'll have to forward this to him.

Great job Paul! And congratulations on being let back into the bedroom, lol.

Hi Keli, Congratulations on your surgery. You'll be seeing a difference before you know it. Good luck with your weight loss!

That is fabulous news! I'm so very happy for you.

Lisa, I'm so sorry to hear about your furbaby. You gave him so much love - a kitty couldn't ask for a better life. (((HUGS)))
