    April's Chat

Eilene, that sounds yummy! Easter dinner is at my mom's house; I'm bringing the potato salad. Here's what I'm making for my Easter Egg Hunt/Brunch on the 15th: potato, sausage, pepper egg casserole ham and cheese egg casserole french toast sticks sausage patties grapes, bananas, pineapple, strawberries, etc muffins (huge ones from Costco) sour cream coffee cake (yummmmmmm) blueberry coffee cake Sounds so good. Too bad I'll be too busy to eat any of it, but I'm sure my guests will love it.

    I need your advise

Even if you can't drive to see the band doc, give him a call. Maybe he can call something in to the pharmacy or advise your PCP on the best treatment. Keep him in the loop, because your regular doc won't have seen this before. (((HUGS)))

Howdy girls! I'm sitting in the middle of a madhouse. DH and I took the kids to Fantasy Forest. It's like a huge McDonald's playland without the mcnuggets. It is complete chaos in here, but they have a wireless connection so it ain't all bad. Eilene, I just sprayed lemonade out my nose when I read the line about the boss being away being better than taking a dump. LMAO!! Who are you having for Easter dinner? Whatcha making? My idea of "deep cleaning" is chiseling the sticky stuff off of the toys. Donna, have a great trip to NY!! Sounds like you have a good time planned. Darcy, I'll bet the highlights look great! I stopped highlighting my hair blonde about 6 months ago and I'm a brunette for the first time in my adult life. Now the carpet matches the drapes if ya know what I mean. Sorry, too much information? Sherry, my DH does computer stuff too. Where does your DH work? My DH has a cave/office in the basement, but we let him come upstairs for dinner sometimes. Patty, after all of those delays it looks like your surgery date is flying closer! You're going to be banded and complaining like the rest of us before you know it. Do you have the kiddies this weekend? Betty, I hope the trench fixes your flooding problem! How do you like your new boss? Cindy, what are you up to this weekend? Pat, where are you? We miss you! Okay, time to go. I can barely think with all of these kids running around. We're having Easter dinner at my SIL's house tomorrow for his side of the family. There's always lots of wine so it should be fun. Happy weekend everyone!
  4. My doctor told me that the average loss with the band is 1lb per week. From what I've observed on this website, it varies widely from person to person. It also depends on your start weight - typically the more you have to lose the faster you will lose. At any rate, 22 lbs in 6 weeks is definitely faster than average, especially since most people don't lose any weight until they get their first fill. Congrats!

    Doc Thinks I'm Nuts

You're obviously a little nuts, but that has nothing to do with your band. I'm also tight in the morning and wide open at night. Uh oh... maybe we're all going loopy!
  6. I know how hard it can be not to focus on the complication posts, but try to remember that the vast majority of bandsters are doing great. I am one of the unlucky "slipped band" people, and I don't regret my decision to have the band one bit. There is no way that I would be down 75 lbs in 9 months without it. I'm not trying to sugarcoat it - this is surgery, so you do have to be willing to accept the possibility of complications. Good luck with your research. Don't be afraid to go in for that consult - it's always good to gather as much info as possible before making a decision.

    Road to Onederland Challenge!

Welcome Bandayed! Glad you can join us. :scared: Diane, I love the spa day idea. I think I may do that too. You have to have pretty toes in the summer anyways, right? And yes, WE'RE WORTH IT!!

    American Idol

Me too Janet!! My DH came running because I was sitting here yelling "NO!". I can't believe Mandisa is gone... she wasn't my absolute favorite (that's Chris), but she's way better than most of them. I like Elliott's personality, but I don't understand why they praise his voice so much. It doesn't do much for me. Ace should be gone. His boy band mannerisms just grate on my nerves even if he is a hottie. I think Katherine & Chris are the best singers at this point, but I don't think Katherine will get to the bottom two. I just caught up with this thread... wish I still had my recording so that I could go watch the naughty mink and Chris!

Haven't been around - my story

Hi Sheryl! Welcome back to Bandland.

    Had my barium swallow

That's great news Alex!! 16 oz?! I've had 4 barium swallows now and I don't think I've ever had to drink more than an ounce. And I complained about that.

    Road to Onederland Challenge!

Okay everyone, this thread is a sticky! I think that means we're an official challenge now, so we have to lose, right? Unfortunately, I had to move my start weight a little higher... Not having a fill really stinks! Back on track today though. Here are the starting weights for everyone: Anwyn: 208 Kimalicious: 209.8 MiaHalliwell: 198 (goal: 190) Xann77: 222 Jachut: 209 Seppi: 207.5 Tricia: 207 Dianechef: 202.5 I'm trying to think of a reward for myself once I reach 199. Any suggestions? It was DH's idea, but he'll want me to come up with it. Does anybody else have a reward planned? Hope you're all having a great week! REMINDER: WEIGH IN EVERY TUESDAY (starting April 11th)

    Im Going In!!

Hi Phili! Congrats on your band. Pain 5 days out is very normal. It will get better every day, but I had some soreness (especially in the port area) for two weeks following surgery. You're definitely over the worst of it now though. It's great to hear that you're home and doing well!
  17. Dody, your husband must be so proud of you right now. You're obviously a very strong, intelligent, brave woman. With all of the changes coming in your life, it's no wonder the show hit you so hard. So, Monday is the big trip to get banded?! That's exciting news! If I were you, I'd pack sweats, sweats, and sweats. But I'm all about comfort when I'm healing up from surgery. ((((HUGS))))
  18. Shanna, I'm so sorry that they weren't able to replace your band. (((HUGS))) You are such a sweetheart, on here answering other people's questions about their issues. You must be exhausted. Rest up - I hope you feel better soon!

    April's Chat

Hi Everyone! No time for personals tonight, but I wanted to pop on and say hello. I have my post-op appointment tomorrow morning. Even though it's only been two weeks since my surgery I was planning on begging for a small fill cause the tummy feels fine and wants to eat all of the foods it's been missing for 8 months. I had bread tonight - yum! Unfortunately, the port area is still quite sore so I can't imagine letting them poke around to get the port. Oh well - I just have to buckle down and try to find some willpower for the next couple weeks. Hmm... maybe I should exercise. Nah! Just kidding. Sorta. Time for bed. Love you guys! (((HUGS)))

    This really is unbelievable.

Randy, don't feel guilty about the hospital being underpaid. The hospital had a say in how much they would accept when they negotiated the rate with the insurance company, so they are okay with that amount. Remember, BCBS is a massive organization with bargaining power, so it pays overall for the hospital to accept their patients. I had a similar situation with United Healthcare... my surgery was billed out at about 29K and the hospital/surgeon was reimbursed 3K. I thought it must be some crazy error, but it was correct. My deductible had already been satisfied for the year, so I had no out of pocket costs for my surgery.
  21. Hi Jana, I've heard of ports moving as people lose weight, but you're really close to surgery. Can you feel it right under your skin? Because that's definitely not normal. Sounds like a call to your surgeon is in order. Keep us posted!

    April's Chat

Happy Sunday everyone! We're having a lazy day here! DD is wearing mismatched clothes (her pick) and DS hasn't found any pants yet. They both have messy faces and are reading books and chomping potato chips. DH and I are still in jammies and enjoying our 16th cup of coffee. We were going to do yardwork but there are storms coming through. I figure that lets us off the hook, even though it's not raining yet. Donna, what are you making for dinner tonight? Can I come too? :biggrin1: Sherry, it sounds like you're having a fun weekend. When were you married? I'm not surprised you're seeing a big difference after 22lbs - that's a lot of weight! I wanna see wedding pictures! Eilene, Chunky Dunking?! LMAO!! You're a better woman than I am - I have NO problem complaining to DH when I'm hot and tired. I'm kinda a princess that way, lol. Trish, don't be so down on yourself! I had to drop out of a master's program last year when I hurt my back, so I know how what you're going through. Sometimes the timing just isn't right, but you'll go back if it's the right thing for you. Patty, I love to read too, but a book about lapbanding would be a little dry for me. I'm more of a chick-lit, torrid romance kinda gal. I made it through the Inamed brochure - that counts as research, right? Let us know if you learn any good stuff. Kelly, that fill seems to be doing wonders for you! We always appreciate things more when we wait for them. I do have one question though... What the heck is a faux riblet?! I'm picturing wobbly tofu sticks dunked in bbq sauce... Cindy, I sure hope you're feeling better today! Let us know what the doc says tomorrow. (((HUGS))) Pat, how are you feeling? I hope you've recovered from the nasty bug. (((HUGS))) for you too. Paula, sounds like you guys had a fun April Fool's Day! Glad nobody actually got run over or ran away, lol. Betty, I hope you have some time to relax this weekend. Not to be selfish, but maybe you could go part-time at that new job. We miss you around here! Darcy, you're probably covered in dirt up at the cabin right now. I can't wait to get planting this year. I couldn't do anything last year (stupid bad back!) but this year will be a different story! Dianne, happy April! What are you up to today? Irene, what's up chickie? Is DH making something yummy for dinner? My DH is going to make pizza for the kids tonight. Speaking of, I'd better take a shower and head off to the store for dinner supplies. Talk to you all later!
  24. Shanna, I've been thinking of you! Yes - my reflux did go away immediately. It was such a relief that the surgical pain was worth it. For me, the second time around has been easier. They used my original scars, and you can hardly tell that they've been opened. My stomach feels great and I can eat anything. Okay, I guess that's only a partial positive... I'm so sorry that you're going through this too, but just wanted you to know that there's light at the end of the tunnel. I have some more thoughts, but I'll send you a PM.

    Questions for group...

I had to do full liquids for one week before surgery. I'm not going to blow smoke and tell you it's fun, but when it's over you'll have a nice weight loss under your belt! And, like mommy2xp said, you won't have the last supper syndrome to worry about. I know that's cold comfort right now, but you'll be thankful later when you don't have an extra 5 or 10 lbs to lose. Take it a day at a time - you can do it!
