My Barium swallow pics, does this look like a slip?
Anwyn replied to pati-o's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My untrained eyes also see a very tight band. I believe that you need a complete unfill first and THEN a barium swallow to find out if the band has slipped. Is there a band doc in your area who can unfill you before May 1st? -
I couldn't agree more with Donna & Susan - get another opinion! In my case the slip was repaired with a new band right away. That this doctor is refusing to even consider that possibility is just infuriating to me. You've been through so much, and I know how hard every day is when your band is slipped, but try to find another doctor who is band friendly so that you can get an unbiased opinion. You can always tell them to give you a bypass if they get in there and decide that you can't be rebanded because of excess scar tissue. (((HUGS)))

revision new member/Dody
Anwyn replied to dorothy.roden's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi Dody, I had revision surgery to repair a slippage about 4 weeks ago and my weight has been going up up up ever since. I can't get a fill until May 10th, so my goal now is to do some damage control until I get restriction back. Is there anything keeping you from getting another fill? I told my doc that I want him to fill me verrrrrrrrry slowly this time around, but I'm hoping the first one does the trick! Hang in there - there are many people on here who had slips who weren't able to get a new band. We're the lucky ones! -
Chabutter, you can calculate your BMI at this site: http://www.consumer.gov/weightloss/bmi.htm#BMI That should help you figure out how much is "too much" too lose before surgery. PJ, I have a Precor Elliptical and I love it (when I get my butt onto it).
-
Hi Tina, Yes, for the majority of people the band does work once you've achieved proper restriction. I love my band. The first 50 pounds came off almost effortlessly, but I am what is known as a rabbit. There are many slow losers on this board, so please don't be disappointed if it comes off slowly. It can take time to obtain a good restriction level, and you're starting off at a lower weight than most bandsters. That said, if you eat by the bandster rules (hard Protein, no drinking with meals, etc) and exercise, you'll do great!
-
This is a great thread too - it's for larger bandsters. Congratulations on your remission!! http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=16168

If I'm reading his concern correctly, he has a valid point. I mean, 8 hours a day reading message boards is 8 hours that our butts are in a chair, lol. Just like we need to keep our kids off of too much video gaming, tv, etc, we need to moderate ourselves. But he seems to be writing off the benefits of the support from this board, and we all need support just as much as we need exercise.
-
I'm usually the exact same way. If I eat a hershey's kiss, the day is shot and it's a free for all until the next morning. Exercise is 6 times a week or not at all. My most successful dieting attempt (pre-band) was when I was strict during the day and then gave myself permission to eat 2 Cookies with tea at night. It was very liberating to feel like I had a treat waiting every day if I felt like it. I felt like my head was in the right place, because I wasn't so obsessive about it. Good luck with Nutrisystem - I really feel like it's one of the best programs out there. And congrats on the 6 lb loss!!

Oh Trish, ((((((HUGS!!))))))). What an ordeal - I hope you feel better soon!

Just popping in to say hello. I've been in band denial lately, so I'm avoiding the other threads. Since my band slipped I count 4 people on this board who have also had a slip and every one of them has lost their band. I'm the only lucky one of the bunch who was able to be rebanded. So, because I was raised Catholic and have a strong sense of guilt, I sometimes feel horrible for how badly I've been eating. On the other hand, I've reeeeally enjoyed having a break from restriction. I've been paying the price on the scale, but I'm okay with that. I'm going to get my fill soon and get back on track. Then I'll be cursing myself for the extra weight I'll need to lose again, but right now it's all good. Phew! That felt good to admit... I wouldn't say that at any other place on this board. Thanks in advance for a place to feel safe from judgement girlies. :kiss2: :kiss2: Feels like a cool Spring rain is moving in. What do y'all have planned for this weekend? My mom is going to watch DD tomorrow while DH and I take DS to see Ice Age 2. Other than that, it will be yardwork if it's not raining. Time to put the kiddies to bed.

Mary Ann, I'm so sorry that you're going through this. It's great news that you can opt to get a new band in 6 months if you decide you want another. Take care, and heal up quickly!
-
Dana, I gained 11lbs of water weight from surgery. It came right off over the first few weeks. Hang in there - I know we're not allowed to want weight loss right away (lol) but it's hard to wrap the head around that and not be disappointed.
-
Penni, there was a period of about 36 hours while I was being tested in the hospital for a slipped band where I had to comtemplate my path... I didn't know if they would be able to place a new band, so I had to make a choice: 1. tell them to go ahead and give me a bypass 2. tell them to take out the band and leave me flying solo (I was REALLY tempted to just say screw it) 3. tell them to put in a new band if possible I thought really hard about my options and knew that I wanted another band. I know you lost your band due to erosion, which is (imo) much scarier than slippage. But, if the doctor is fully supportive of rebanding you, my honest opinion is to go for it. In the meantime, if you're a bad grazer, I think your only option is to de-crapify your kitchen. If your only snacking options are fruits and vegetables, you're not going to gain. And (brace yourself - this is some really creative advice!) start exercising. It will help the depression. We are all pulling for you! You're going to do this with or without a band. (((HUGS)))

This important undergarment question may deserve a new thread, but it seems related... Does everyone here wear pantyhose with skirts/dresses? I was out buying a skirt for the first time in years and my sister started making fun of me when I went to pick out pantyhose. She says nobody wears them anymore... I'm only 32 - am I already hopelessly behind the times?!

Dont Know Too Much, but Glad To Be Here
Anwyn replied to FREE-TO-BE's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome to LBT Free-to-be. Good luck with your insurance approval! UHC seems to be one of the carriers with more approvals, so you have that going in your favor. Lurk away - the more info you have the better you will feel about your decision. -
I'm wearing a pair of Lane Bryant lilac seamless briefs that I bought a month ago. They shrink up so tiny in the wash that I'm sure they won't fit on, but they stretch out a bunch. The bra I'm wearing right now is old with no support, but comfy. I usually wear the Lane Bryant padded Cacique bra with the chicken cutlet inserts that Wheetsin was talking about (too funny btw!), but it cuts into my sides. DH calls it the "intimidator" bra.

I'm not sure of the circumference of mine, but it's the kind that holds 4cc's total... does that help?

And a rare one of the 4 of us...

Here's a pic of the kids in their Easter finery...

Good morning everyone! Kellygirl, are you still here? I just read a thread that said you've deleted all of your threads. I hope everything is okay and you'll still participate in our chat! ((HUGS)) Patty, you have to get a TIVO! They're awesome. You can save yourself so much time by flipping past the commercials. And if you watch American Idol you can watch the whole results show in 2 minutes once you zip past the filler. :biggrin1: Pat, I giggle every time I picture that witch opening a letter telling her she has to have a psych exam. She's going to have a hissy fit! The egg hunt was a huge success! I enjoyed the chance to get to know my neighbors better and they're all really nice people. We had perfect weather. I was going to post some pictures but with all of the chaos I didn't have much time. I have some, but they're all scattered group shots of kids picking up eggs. I will post some Easter pics though... Betty, Beanie, and Cindy - have you recovered from the heat wave? Yikes - 101 degrees?! I'd melt. I'll post more personals later - Hugs everyone!!

How the band changed my life! (pictures)
Anwyn replied to Dianechef's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Diane, you look amazing and your family is just beautiful! I love your outfit. 3loves, your boys are adorable. Hopefully next year you'll come out from behind them so we can see you too. Cute suits! -
I agree with everyone else on bottom 3 (Kellie, Ace, Elliott). Kellie deserves to go, but I think it will be Elliott. I was disappointed that Rod Stewart was going to be the guest, but it turned out well. I enjoyed hearing the old standards... at least they didn't make anyone sing "If You Think I'm Sexy", lol. Katharine and Paris were my favorites for the night.

Hi everyone! I'm sorry I haven't been around lately, but I'll try to catch up tomorrow. Just wanted you all to know I'm thinking of you! Anne

Oh Sherry, it sounds like you've been through so much! (((((HUGS!))))) You are a strong, caring person and you don't need that kind of toxicity in your life. Vent anytime - that's what we're here for!
