Any GERD sufferers who were still able to get their sleeve done?
Mike4132 replied to kjkeller102's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had GERD preop and still take a PPI after being sleeved. I only need to take it every day and a half now so it's gotten better. -
The end of 6 month supervised diet!

You will probably need an endoscopy so they can get a look inside your stomach. I also had nutrition classes and a psych eval that was part of the program. You are almost there! -

What are your must haves for the hospital stay and after? How long should I expect to be out of school and gym class?

Lip balm is number one. A pillow for the ride home is also a must! -
That's a win any day! Congrats

I'm in NW Florida near Pensacola. I was in the same boat as you for the first six weeks. Was losing everywhere but the pants weren't getting smaller. The last 3 weeks though it started to change. (Sleeved Dec 10). Maybe it will play out the same way for you.

What activities are you looking forward to doing?

I signed up for a zip line tour this Saturday. Decided there is no need to wait! It's 14 zip lines over 5 hours so this may be tough but I'm going to do it. I Bought a groupon for this 3 years ago and then realized I was over the weight limit so I couldn't do it. I'm under now so it's game on! -
Either my IPad is possessed or im losing my mind. I tried to type "pre-op" in another post and it auto-corrected to "Oreos". Really? "Oreos"? On a WLS forum? Guess what I'm craving now..........I hate you IPad.

I fall asleep before 8pm and wake up at 3am every night now. It drives me nuts! I've started taking melatonin before bed and it helps me sleep a little better and longer.

Help Can't tolerate the Protein Shakes - worried about Post-OP
Mike4132 replied to MSMOM3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried Syntrax nectar yet? They come in fruit flavors and are thin rather than thick. It's the only brand I use now. Also- you can add unflavored powder to Jello or sugar free pudding and you won't even notice it. (Both count as liquids) -
What is everyone NOT going to miss after sleeve?
Mike4132 replied to alexsisv's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
2 months post op and I've lost 55 lbs. I can honestly say that all of these things have already come to pass. -I'm no longer winded climbing stairs. (And I've completed two 5K races) -I'm buying smaller clothes because my old ones no longer fit. -I've still got 50 lbs to go but I'm no longer feeling "fat"! Life has changed for the better already!! -

9 months for me. It went VERY fast though. -
I think you made a good choice! I for one am very happy with mine.

That's amazing!

I always want to eat unfortunately, but when I do it's kind of disappointing. That's a good thing I guess! I'm hoping it will help change my desire to eat over time since the reward and satisfaction isn't really there anymore.

Does anyone else experience their profile picture changing randomly at times? For example, right now my posts show me as someone other than me......and female.
-
Experienced the same here. It was heartburn and a PPI took care of it. It definitely felt just like hunger though.
-
Don't doubt! This surgery will put you firmly back in control. It has been the greatest thing I've ever done for myself so far and I have no doubt you will feel the same way too. Everything gets easier after surgery. It's still hard at times but not as hard as it was before.

Unjury protein powder questions?
Mike4132 replied to jenkbacon's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I thought unjury was pretty good, although it was best when mixed with skim milk. I also added it to sugar free pudding and it was much easier on the stomach. (My Dr. And Nutritionist consider pudding a liquid so it was fair game on my liquid phase.) You can get single serves packages if you want to try it before jumping in with a big container. On a different note: have you tried Syntrax nectar Fuzzy Navel, or any of their other fruit flavors? It's thin, tastes more like juice, and I found it much better tolerated by my stomach than any of the traditional flavors of other Protein powders. (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry stuff) -
Good tip, thanks!

My favorite trick for getting extra protein is making sugar free frozen pudding pops. (I add 5 scoops of Syntrax unflavored powder to the pudding mix and pour it into popsicle molds. I also use either 1% or skim milk.) It will give you an extra 13 grams or so per pudding pop and they taste great.
