    Pre-Op Diet

I have read about the pe-op diets that some people have to do before surgery. My docs office did not mention one when they scheduled by surgery. Actually y preop visit is not until the friday before my surgery (surgery in on a tues.) I am thinking, from what I have read that I will have to do a 24 hr diet. Why is it that some docs require different lengths to their pre-op diets?
  4. Welcome to the forum. Good luck as you continue on your journey to better health!

    The Last Supper

I did the six mos. supervised diet beginning in Dec. I was told by my surgeon's office not to lose a single pound (bmi was barely 40 w/no co morbidities). So the true food addict, emotional eater that I am actually GAINED weight on my 6 mos diet (approx 20lbs!) So, to answer your question I have had many last suppers:biggrin2: Now I do plan to eat some specific things before my Sept. surgery that I may not be able to tolerate for a while like :drumroll: Sushi and plum wine yummmmmm and some general tso chicken and oh thai chicken noodle bowl yeah that's it:tt1: Have a round of sangria for me!

    September Samurai Signatures

Thanks Tally, I can't wait to get that little band around my big stomach!
  8. Thanks ya'll, I am glad u like the siggie. We should do a roll call thread for Banded in September 08. I be the list is gonna grow as we get into the month of August.
  9. I have bc bs. My info was mailed to them on July 2nd or 3rd. The review board received the info on July 15th and I was approved on July 22nd. Not bad considering that they lost some of my documentation in their mail room and I had to resubmit those particular items. Also I was told that it could take 4-6 weeks but it actually took about 2.5 weeks.
  10. Hi ladyd, I am from AL as well. Who's doing your surgery? I am using dr. Schmitt in Bham at MCE.

Dr. Miles or Dr. Schmitt patients

Grace: Thanks for the info. I really was confused after i got off of the phone with naomi. she was going so fast and not giving much detail. I do have a pre-op visit three days before surgery. Also she said that she would call me back with the date for the nutritionist visit-is that how it works? Alabamagirl: I am so sorry that u r having a hard time getting more info. especially after having been approved for several months now. I think that the office (miles and schmitt) may be getting too busy for them to handle, but that still is no reason to be treated rudely or made to feel like you are inconveniencing them! Sometimes even the lil receptionist is rude and dry. Girl, I am a go getterby nature -this is my life not some joke! If u push me then i'll push u back (very professionally of course ) I wonder if there is a suggestion box in the office....Maybe the next time u speak to someone who is being rude to u in the office drop this line "my ins. will pay for this surgery at this center because it has been deemed a Center of Excellence, however my treatment at this point has been less than excellent. Perhaps if I file a grievance with my ins. co. concerning this office I may be taken a little more seriously. But I don't want to have to get to that point because it would be unfair to the surgeons here and their professional reputations. So we need to figure out a solution that will be beneficial to all...(very professionally of course:sneaky:)

    I'm about to do this.....

Hey yettia, God is with u. We want all the details so check back just to let us know everything went well.
  23. I can only suggest what worked for me. So here goes: call the wait loss center or practice that u want to do your surgery. Ask for the patient coordinator. If u attend a seminar this person may be there also. Tell him or her that u are interested in wls but u don't have a pcp to do your supervised diet ( it may b req. by ins.) ask her to suggest one that is a " friend to the process" or one they get successful referrals from. Drop your current pcp like a hot potato. Also make sir u have done two things: read your policies guidelines and have the correct BMI. Arm yourself with info. that way people won't be able to tell u just anything. Keep us posted.
  24. My ins.will not cover a bmi below 40 w/o comorbids. however, they are very specific about what conditions they will consider comorbids. check your policy. I had to have a bmi of 40 b/c i did not have comorbids that they would consider.
