Welcome back girl! Get that ticker up and let's lose some weight! Ready, set, go! -
When I was locked I used the Dr. Bonners (Sp?) peppermint or lavender. It was great. I also mixed essential oils like Vitamin e, peppermint, and jojoba with olive oil. I would also boil chamomile tea and used it after I shampoo then rinse. Ya girl had long gorgeous locks that went to the middle of my back!

Good luck ladies on your journey! I started this process back in December ( I had to do the 6mos diet) and will be banded tomorrow. Jump through every hoop that they give you, actually stay one step ahead. If they require a sleep study go ahead and schedule it now. Do what to have to do to realize your goal!

What are you gonna do? It must be nice to have in-laws that you can share that with. The bigger the support system the better. -

I always wondered as I was going through the approval process what my out of pocket expense(s) would be. I have bc/bs of Alabama PPO (PEEHIP). Here is my breakdown:sleep Study Dr. Visit $20 Copay Required Support Group Free Nutrition Class $60 copay Out patient Surgery (Hospital Services) $75 Copay (100% covered) Out patient Surgery (Surgeon's Services) 100% covered Fills 100% covered no limit) Fills Dr. Visit no copay first 90 days $20 copay thereafter Total out-of pocket (excluding $20 copay for future fills)= $335 The cost of being healthy? PRICELESS I hope that this estimate helps anyone with similar questions. I am really thankful to GOD that I have good insurance. Since my husband and I both are public school educators we combine our allocations and the state pays our premium. Translation: We pay $0 monthly premium for family health insurance!

Are We ready for a Black President?

I bet African Americans that came decades before us would loved to have benefited from that reasoning. Perhaps lives would have been spared and dreams would have been realized. Those rules were made by jim crow/ segregationist state and local governments of the U S. Its part of our painful and embarrassing history. I hope that with this election Americans will show our nation's true growth and movement towards change. -

re: "Those programs instilled little of benefit and did much damage to the then-relatively intact social structure of inner city families." The "hood" called and said that they did not authorize you to issue that statement on their behalf. -

Good for you for sticking to your guns. If you are anything like me, you value your mom's opinion and definitely want her approval. I hope that she comes around. Believe me, I was SHOCKED that my mom was so cool in the end when I told her. She even said that I was smart and she knows that I did my research. She was extremely proud when I told her that I started a forum for women of color (telling her that was a pimp move on my part to try to earn some browning points.) I guess that we have to accept that we are doing this to change our lives and just because someone isn't 100% with us doesn't mean that they are against us. But... peach cobbler? Danggg-stay strong my sister. -

RANT: I will be 2yrs post-op before I tell my momma!
aprilapple replied to aprilapple's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I told my mama that I was having surgery! After I left my pre-op 2 days ago I called my mom and told her. My soul just wasn't comfortable with the idea that I would be having surgery in a couple of days and not tell her. How did she respond? Like it was XMAS! I will do my first week of recovery at her house. She has spent the whole weekend getting things prepared for me so that I will be comfortable. After I talked some more about the procedure she even said that it sound likes something that my overweight teenage niece could benefit from. Moral of the story? Never underestimate your ride or die chic! Holla! -
Super cute!

Personally, I think that she looks great to have given birth several times! I have only had one child and I wish my body bounced back like hers. -
