Well today I went for my first fill and it was nothing like I expected it to be. First of all, I just knew it was going to be PAINFUL!!! Was I ever so wrong!!!! It barely even felt like a needle was going through my belly, I saw the whole procedure( I like to see what is being done to me) and did not even move. What I did forget to ask was how much saline he put in. The needle was quite long( spinal needle) but very thin. The procedure itself was a breeze and I was worried for nothing.

Between the age of 30-33, I have had tonsillectomy, gallbladder, tubaligation, and this year bilateral carpal tunnell and finally my LAP-BAND. So you can say I have had my share of anesthetia. I definitely do not regret my Lap-Band.

Here is the thing, I just got banded 2 weeks ago on this Monday, at first I felt alot of restriction but now I can drink a whole bottle of water or even eat oatmeal and not feel restricted. Does this mean that I need a fill alread. I called my doctor and asked if my band was filled when it was put in and he said that he did fill it, so why do I not feel restriction. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE MY BAND, I have lost about 12lbs. since surgery, I would do it all over if I had to!! How can you tell when you need a fill and how soon after surgery can you get one. My first follow up is on Tuesday with my surgeon, Dr. Chaudry.:think

Thank you for your replies, I am glad that I'm not the only one that feels this way. I guess I'll find out this week with my doctor if I need a fill or not. I kinda want to have a fill just to make sure I DON'T OVER EAT!!!!!! Besides that, I love the fact that I had this done and I know I am on a journey to losing WEIGHT. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE THAT IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING I FEEL.

Well, I was banded a week and a day ago!! All the pain I was experiencing at the port site, is almost all gone except for a little soreness in the area. Who would have thought a few days ago, I would be feeling this good? I went back to work yesterday and had a 12 hr. work day and felt good other than just a little more tired than usual. I can't believe it has been only a week and I feel so good. Did everyone else feel this good? When should I be able to go back to the gym, even for just the treadmill? I am definitely glad I had this done and would not change anything about my whole experience.

I work in an ob/gyn dept. and most of the midwives are offering the Mirena (iud) instead of the old copper T. The Mirena contains hormones that lessen your menstrual and also lessen the menstrual cramps. The only thing is that it is effective for 5 yrs. as opposed to the Copper T that is effective for 10 yrs. When a pt. complains of irregular menses, they are usually put on birth control pills to regulate them. The Ortho Evra patch is also good but you can't be over a certain body weight as it won't be fully effective. Anyway, hope you get a solution to your problem. I hope I don't go through this problem because I had a tubaligation and would hate to take pills for menstrual control.

Congratulations, Beth!!!! I know what it feels like, I too had to wait about weeks for my approval. It is the greatest feeling to be approved. Hope for a speedy recovery and keep in touch, let us know how everything went.

During surgery...local anesthesia or are you "out"?
vanesav replied to tztmama's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just had my lapband surgery on Monday, and I stayed overnight sent home the next afternoon. I was put to sleep (lol) just minutes before surgery and woke up about 1 1/2 hrs. later. -
I am a mother of two, 13 yr.old girl and 8 yr.old boy. I work as a medical assistant in an ob/gyn dept. at a health center for the past 14 yrs. Would love to go back to school for my RN license but just don't have the time right now. Gotta keep an eye on the kids and run a household. Fiance works long hours, so him keeping the kids is out of the question.

Lynn B, the gas-x didn't work for me either. I did lay on my left side this morning and I felt the gas shifting around, it is working a bit. I could deal with the gas, I just want this pain at my port site to go away. I am due back to work on Monday, do you think I'll be O.K. to work? I work as a medical assistant and am usually on my feet.

WELL SURGERY WAS YESTERDAY AND I AM BACK HOME TODAY. IN MY EYES THE SURGERY WAS A GREAT SUCCESS. THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE IS THE PAIN AT THAT DARN PORT SITE, IT HURTS LIKE HELL. I HAVE LOTS OF GAS, BUT I'VE BEEN TRYING TO WALK IT OFF, SO FAR ITS WORKING. MY ONLY COMPLAIN FROM SURGERY IS THE PAIN AT THE PORT SITE. WHY DOES IT HURT SO BAD,(BURNS WHEN I MOVE THE WRONG WAY)? IS THIS NORMAL FOR EVERYONE TO HURT AT PORT SITE? PLEASE GIVE ME SOME FEEDBACK ON THIS. MY DOCTOR SAYS ITS NORMAL AND TO TAKE EXTRA STRENGH TYLENOL BECAUSE ANYTHING ELSE MIGHT MAKE ME NAUSEAUS. SOMEONE, REPLY ME ON THIS SO THAT I CAN BE MORE AT EASE. THANKS!!!!!

I was banded on Monday Sept. 19 and besides the burning at my port site and this darn gas, I feel good. I've been walking around the house just trying to get this gas out but that's not working so I had to send my fiance for some Gas-X, hope this will work. Congratulations on those banded and good luck for the that are to be banded!

Thank you guys so much!!! I was kinda getting worried thinking it was something wrong with my port site, but after all y'all replies, I feel more at ease. The pain is not as bad but it still burns when I walk. The only problem is this damn gas inside trying to get out, I've been walking but it just seems to be shifting around and not coming out. I almost feel like getting on my treadmill to walk it out, it is so darn uncomfortable, I really can't bear it. I just sent my fiance to the pharmacy to get my some Gas-X, hope that will work.

I Am To Be Banded On 9-19-05, Now That It Is Getting Closer To The Date, I Feel A Little Scared. My Questions Are: Will It Hurt Much? How Much Time Can I Expect To Be Out Of Work( I Took Off 1 Week), What Can I Use For The Gas Pain?, How Long Is The Hospital Stay? I Had My Last Visit Before Surgery With My Doctor Today, But I Forgot To Ask These So Important Questions. I Guess I Forgot To Ask Because I Was So Damn Happy To Be Approved And To Be Having My Surgery Next Week!!!!!!!

Thanks So Much For Your Words Of Wisdom, I Will Definitely Be Coming To Vent!! I Work As A Medical Assistant So Most Of The Day I Am Standing Up And Walking Back And Forth, Maybe I'll Ask My Head Nurse To Let Me Have A Desk Job For A Week. She Has Been Very Understanding And Encouraging, So I See No Problem With A Week Off My Feet. I Hope!!!
