  1. Gadgetlady, Do you think it was ok to force pregancies on slave women? Don't you think that those women should have had a voice as to whether the wanted to have children? What is the differnce between the Government or Pro lifers forcing their will on women to have children they don't want and a slave owner forcing his will on a slave woman to breed? It's all about freedom isn't it. No one has dominion over my body. I am the only one who has control over whether or not I bring another living being into the world. No matter what you or the govt. has to say about it. It becomes a child when I decide it is going to be a child. You have control over your body and no one elses. An embryo is not a child until the woman in possession of said embryo deems it so in her heart and her mind. Trying to control what one has absolutely no control over is a bit like insanity.

I don't understand (goal weight rant)

"What makes me angry is when people attack YOUR goal or YOUR weight to justify their own. Indiogirl you just said you would look awful at 130, which is perfectly fine, you didnt call it anorexic or scrawny and ugly, that's what makes me angry, not that people dont have the same goals as me" I don't get why anyone would call you anorexic, scrawny or ugly. I just saw your pic on another thread and I think you look curvey and well put together. Maybe they need glasses....

    Good restriction is ....

There is no way that someone could eat only 1/4 cup of food 3 x a day and get anywhere near the nutrients they need. I am glad that I can not eat bread often because I don't need a lot of carbs and prefer to get them from veggies. I would find it depressing to eat only a few bites of food at a meal and that is all that 1/4 cup is.
  4. Hi, I am Phyllis. I have been banded for over 18 months but I am new to this board. I have been spending some time on here trying to get the hang of the new format. I am a turtle and a hard head, but I keep working at it. I have lost approx 50 lbs. I am happy for each oz. lost and have accepted the fact long ago that I am not one of the lucky ones who lose, lose, lose!!!!! I live in No. VA and had my surgery at George Washington University with Dr. Brody. I have 5.5cc's in my 4cc band, and no, I am not tight. I can eat anything but bread and tough meat and, as I found out last night, lobster tails. I just discovered that you have spell check here, but I guess it has to be downloaded. That is good news for me, I am a terrible speller, so I apolgize upfront for that, somewhat dyslecic (sp). Bad typist too!!! I am a married 58 y/o mother of three grown children and one absolutly beautiful grandson. I work for the Fed govt and can not wait to retire. I hope to get to know you all better. Some of you might already know me from another board. I thought I needed to branch out a little and give and get more support. Ciao

    New to this board

Thanks Tonks, This format is a little confusing to me, but I will practice and see if I can learn how to reply and post without screwing up too much. You should be proud. You are heading in the right direction and will get there as long as you keep at it.

    New to this board

Thanks, LilMiss. I get really frustrated because this is so hard, but when I look back and see that I weigh less then I did two months ago, I have to be ok with that. I would be over 300 by now and very unhappy. Good Luck

    New Here From VA

Hi, I am new to this board and I live in No Virginia. Good luck with your surgery. A support board is a must with lap band surgery, so welcome.

Okay, now that was just gross

Well at least you had an economical barf!!! I did that on my lobster dinner last night and spent about 15 mins in the restroom creating my very own "lobster bisque"...

    Drinking Lots of Alcohol

Go ahead and get the band if you want to spend a lot of time puking your guts up. Someone with a band and impared judgement from being drunk is not a pretty thought. It is a recipe for disaster. Sounds like you have a pretty strong death wish already. The band might just help deliver that wish sooner rather than later.

I don't understand (goal weight rant)

I chose a goal weight of 135. That is right in the middle of the charts for my height. I will probably never see that, but I would be happy with 145-150. I really don't care if anyone still thinks I am fat at 150, just as I don't care what people think of my weight now. It is just a goal to work towards. I care about how I feel and how I look to myself. Every lb I lose makes me feel and look better. That is the important thing to me.
  13. Yes it is absolutely rude. Bad spelling has nothing to do with a person's intelligence. Albert Einstein was a bad speller. Just about everybody needs an editor, so why let it bother you if there are mispelled words and poor grammar in informal writing? Condescending people who correct others bother me.

I don't understand (goal weight rant)

Yes, I do know that I have heavy bones. My bones are thick and dense. I am plenty fat, but I am also more muscular than most fat women. I don't have a lot of visceral fat. My Dr. told me that after he did my surgery. Right now I have 5.5cc's in my 4cc band because I don't have a thick fat pad around my stomach to take up the slack.

I don't understand (goal weight rant)

I think more than just a number goes into making an ideal weight for an individual. There is such a thing as heavy bones. Some people are more muscular than others. Where one carries their weight has a lot to do with whether it is healthy or not. Two people of the same height and gender can look totally different depending on their own physical make up. The same goes for how healthy they are. Of course there is a healthy range, but I think that range can cover a lot more territory than those height and weight charts commonly used.
