I am assuming you would be talking about armed soldiers that it is ok to kill in a war? Once you have them defensless and caged up it becomes nothing more than sadism and vicious imhumanity to futher inflict physical pain.

You could get her a manicure set and encourage her to groom her nails instead of biting and picking at them. Get her some different girlie chapsticks for her lips.

Anyway, he still has a fat head even if we do share the same love of pigging out on icecream everynight. Ane he ain't all that anyway, so there. -
Why doesn't being "skinny" fix it all?
phyllisc replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Nothing is every going to fix everything. And everything is never going to be fixed. But I will settle for fixing my fat butt and getting it into some sharp looking fanny flattering duds. It is just 1 down and 9,999 left to go. But congratulations, you fixed a major one. -
Good points Chelle. I don't see the point of arguing personal beliefs. Our minds are free or at least they should be to believe anything we want. If you are a person that requires proof, then you are not going to be a believer. It is as simple as that. But why argue with someone who who does believe. There is no logic, nor does there have to be in a belief unless the believer requires logic. Personally I find it anoying for anyone to insist that they are right and others are wrong. Who cares, if you are happy and content with your beliefs or lack of them, that should be enough. It is none of my business what anyone else believes. I really don't even have any curiousity as long as practicing your beliefs don't infringe on my rights or are harmful to to anyone or anything.

Celebrities have the same right as anyone else to publicly support a political candidate. In the case of Oprah, I am sure she is putting her money where her mouth is. I say she has about a 50/50 chance of turning people on or off. Celebrities get attention and that is what a political campaign is all about. Newspapers, businesses, religious groups, special interest groups and other politicians endorse candidates, so I think a voter, whether or not they are famous, has every right to do the same. Intelligence is not a requirement for voting, only being of age and a citizen. People have all kinds of different reasons for voting for one candidate or another. Not all of them are based on the candidate themselves. Besides they lie so much, what difference does it make why one would vote for any particulare candidate.

Assisted Suicide/Interesting Reading

Thank you, it was very hard and I am still crying about it. He was so beautiful. -
My kids are adults now but they were lucky to be in the best elementary school in an excellent school district. The principle was phenomenal and she hand picked every teacher there. I went out of my way to cooperate and participate as much as possible. It is very difficult job and I have deep respect and admiration for folks who are willing to do devote so much to a vocation. One the few occasions where a teacher was not so hot, daughter had an art teacher who really was in the wrong profession, I overlooked a lot of things and reinforced to my daughter that she was doing a great job. I didn't think it was worth antagonizing someone who was going to be spending so much time with my kid. My kids got a great education and they were lucky enough to finish elementary school the same year that the principle retired. That school went downhill after that. What I like is a teacher who can recognize a students unique ablities and bring out the best in them. What I don't like are unimaginative, dogmatic people who really shouldn't be teaching because they are so close minded. People who have no spark themselves and fail to get a kid interested in learning really shouldn't be around kids. But most of all I am thankful that there are people who can spend all day with a roomful of kids and return the next day to do it over again, and enjoy it.

I think there are people who are incredibly intuitive and sensitive. I think the people on TV claiming to be psychics are just out to make money. I find accounts of ordinary people who have premonitions to be very interesting, wish I had more time to read up on it.

Yup, you said it...... I could have been one of those Catholics, except I realized early on, probably in the second grade that I wasn't buying any of it. I remember the nun lining all the girls up and asking who wanted to be a nun when they grew up. I was the only one who didn't or at least honest enough to admit it. That thought just horrified me. I am content to not know if there is a god or not. Being or striving to be a good human is enough for me and I don't need any of the trappings or labels. I do strongly believe that everyone should believe any way they want and it is no one elses business.

Some people can't take rejection of any kind. As in "if you don't think or believe the way I do", then you must think I am stupid. In the case of faith, there is no way to prove one right or wrong so people just get very possesive of their beliefs because they feel they are threatened and have no "real defense". Of course this is not the case with everyone and I think that a majority of believers are accepting of others beliefs because they realize that is such a personal thing. Most people know that nothing is written in stone and one should be free to believe or not believe in any way they wish. We all need to give each other wide latitude in the area of faith and religion. The world would be so peaceful if everyone would be so tolerant of each other. But we know that this is just not so.

Apples can be wicked. you might be able to eat them if you peel them.

You are still very new to banding and lettuce can be a problem until you heal totally. I love salad too and I had problems at first. I chop everything up real small before I even attemp to eat it. Another thing I do is put the crunchy veggies, like cerery, cukes, peppers and onion through a few pulses in the food processor. Then I mix with lettuce and dressing and cut it all up again. Everybody is so different as to what they can tolerate and you will not know until you try. Just proceed with caution on any new food you are introducing post banding. Tough meat is about the only thing I can not tolerate along with bread and some potatoes. I can eat bread and potatoes but not alot of either. Which I consider a good thing.

Assisted Suicide/Interesting Reading
phyllisc replied to WASaBubbleButt's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have stayed out of this debate because it is something that I really don't like talking or even thinking about. But an experience I had this weekend brought it home to me. Now I know that putting down a cat is not the same as a human but I wish that my passing could be as pain free and uncomplecated as my beloved little cat's was. I wasn't expecting to put him down, but I brought him in to have his cast changed. He broke his leg about a month ago. His leg was infected and was necrotic. Heroic efforts might have let him live for a little longer, but for what? So he could suffer more and die anyway. I was convinced by what the vet said and the fact that he was almost 18 years old that he was not going to recover. While I was still in the vets office, I called my best friend who is a crazy cat lady and loves animals more than anything else on earth. She said that it is a blessing to have that option. That when her mother had gangrene in an amputated leg she wished that she could have made a choice for euthanasia. Her mother refused any more surgery and died about a month later from sepsis. There may come a time when someone I love will be in the same situation as my little boy cat. But they will have to linger and suffer and I will be put through a lot of emotional pain. I wish that the option would be available. It would be so much more dignified to end it all when one is ready in a painless serene way. It is not an easy decision, nor should it be, but it would be the right decision made with love and caring. -
Hi, I live in VA, but I am kind of a Marylander. I spend a lot of time at my condo in Ocean City and plan to live there when I retire in a few years. I guess I should look into the Delmara Bariatic Center for future reference.

That's the Bells of Dublin, not Christmas, other goods ones are, Noels Celtiques and A Renaissance Christmas by the Waverly Consort if you like that sort of thing.
-
I do like the music and I try to get the different stuff. I like renassaince music, Maggie Sansone is good, dulcimers and other ancient intruments. I have a CD called Ancient Noels that is fab. My all time favorite Christmas CD is "The Bells of Chistmas" by the Chieftans with others, Elvis Costello does a great song that sort of sums up my feelings about Christmas. Going to listen to some right now, then put up a tree and do some decorating if I can force DH to go up into the attic. I really just go with my feelings from year to year and just do not do what I don't feel like doing.

Anyone else lost interest in food?
phyllisc replied to BlueEyedKitty's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Bestyjane, I don't know what the story is with me. I have 5.5 ccs in my 4cc band It took a long time to get any kind of restriction. I need to get the possiblity of a stretch ruled out. Last fill I had, all the saline was still there. I have been banded for 20 mos. I do occasioally get stuck but I can eat just about everything but steak or other tough dry meat. I wish I could figure this thing out. I will go to my Dr and see what he thinks. I have never had to get an unfill nor have I ever felt too tight. i can easily eat a 1.5 cups of food or more. What do you think? -
Anyone else lost interest in food?
phyllisc replied to BlueEyedKitty's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
No, I have never lost interest in eating and it may be due to the fact that I have never felt like I have the kind of restriction that others talk about. I get physically hungry and head hungry too. I don't think it is a much fun to eat as it used to be, but that is why I got the band because eating was way too much of everything for me. I never feel full on small amounts of food. I get to a point where I can't eat anymore, but I don't feel "satisfied". My band is maxed out so I don't think more fill will be the answer. The band my not be right for me, but I keep working at it. I wish it did take my appetite away, but it doesn't. -
One of the things about shimp is it should never be overcooked. It should take no more that 5-6 mins to cook no matter what way it is cooked. And just be very mindfull when you eat it take small bites and chew well. I eat all kinds of seafood now because it is banster friendly. I have pb'd on Lobster tail but the claw meat is fine. Shrimp is too good to give up. I really miss grilled steak and that is the one thing that I can not eat anymore.

It is very curious that Catholics don't have similar taboos against dancing. As a matter of fact the Catholic schools had the best dances on the weekends. But I think it is because the priest then got to listen to all of those hot and heavy confessions about the dirty thoughts and deeds!!!!! I met my husband back in the 70's doing the bump. Anybody remember the bump? We have been bumping heads and uglies ever since.

Well why do you think they are always dancing in those Viagra commercials????
