  1. @@Jesm1029, This book really helped me. It is written by a surgeon and it's an excellent guide to how you should be eating. I reference it often https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Gastric-Sleeve-Success-Practical/dp/B01CDHMV0E
  2. Not very surprised. Pop corn and chips tend to be "slider foods". They get through the sleeve very easily without making us very full. They also have absolutely 0 nutritional value. That's why one of the rules is to "fill your pouch with the most nutritious, dense foods first" meaning good Protein, veggies. Once you're done with that you will not be able to have very much of the popcorn.

    My surgery was Aug 1st

Different people react very differently to the surgery. Talk to your doc of course but I don't think growling is all that bad. Better then pain, gas or upset stomach. As far as not knowing when you are full, don't worry you will get the hang of it as time goes on. Once you are on a varied, normal diet you will know when you are comfortable, full or sickly full. Of course pay close attention to what your body is telling you and don't ever let yourself get to that sickly full feeling. EAT SLOWLY! Best advice I could give. Your eyes are lot more hungry then you actually are.

    Any February Sleevers

I had my surgery February 26, 2015 and I completely agree with the other ladies that it is was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Best of luck to you and keep us posted on your journey.
  7. To the veteran sleevers out there, how long did you keep actively loosing before you stabilized? I'm about 7 months post surgery and have seen some great weight loss and staying pretty active. However, in past 3 weeks or so I just go up 2 pound then down 2 pounds but not steadily decreasing. It doesn't seem like I'm overeating that much. Any thoughts on this issue? Thanks!

@@msredd, hang in there. I was also uncomfortable the first few weeks. I was not crazy about the constant Protein shakes and then, later on, did not feel like the purees filled me up much. Once you graduate to solid foods it gets much better. I actually had a consultation with Dr. Nussbaum years ago when I was considering the lap-band, I liked him as a surgeon but decided not to go through with the procedure especially since my ins did not approve me for it then. Well, I'm very happy that I did not go through with it because this is so much better .

Feeling great and so much better then 67 pounds heavier . Don't regret this for a minute. Where in NJ are you all doing surgery?

    9 months out

I am 4 months out. Happy with my weight loss so far. I am not limited as to what I can eat but definitely feel the restriction and get full fast. I started working out a lot, doing a lot of pilates, zumba, biking etc. I stay away from carbs and sweets (minus an occasional bite of a birthday cake). A couple of months ago I purchased the book "Ultimate Gastric Sleeve Success" and have found it really helpful. It's an excellent read for any sleever no matter what stage of the game you are at. In general, I'm feeling great and actually looking forward to summer now instead of dreading it in the past because of how heavy I was. Keep up the good work, thanks for sharing your journey everyone
  12. I don't think any surgeon would deny you the surgery if they see you trying. Does he/she have you on a pre-op diet? That should help you drop some more weight for sure. The surgery does go easier if you drop some weight because your liver shrinks. I'm sure your surgery will still be done and all will go well. Good luck!

    What's "worth it"?

I agree with the comment above, I would base my decision more on which doctor and staff do you feel most comfortable with. Which one has better reviews and lower rates of complication.
  14. I had my gallbladder removed at the same time as my sleeve because I had terrible pain from gallstones. My surgeon had no problem doing both together and did not mention the contamination issue. My procedure took about an hour for both. To me, it's better to just get everything done at the same time since you are already under anesthesia. Getting anesthesia is never fun so I would not want to do it the second time. All 3 procedures that you need are very simple.
