My date has been changed from the 17th to Oct 28 because my father is dying. I hope all of this stress and grief does not stop my eventual surgery. I need prayers.

I felt you calling me to come out of the dark and into the light. I will be banded Oct 17. I'm an OR nurse in Boston and I can't believe my day is coming soon. I feel like I'm getting ready to turn into a pumpkin or something! I'm calm right now but I feel like I'm about to change and I don't know what that will be like. Thanks for calling me out to play! -
I'm an OR nurse at NEMC and am soon to be banded. I'm in the Obesity Consult Center and they are great. I also have worked with the bariatric surgeons there and they are great also.

I'm an OR nurse in a large Boston OR that also does bariatric surgery. I have been and OR nurse for 25 years and I have to tell you that I can probably count on two hand the amount of times someone died from general anesthesia. It is extremely rare unless you are a very sick individual. It is a myth perpetuated by TV,the movies and people's fears that "I won't wake up!" I have assisted tens of thousands of surgeries and am happy to be having general anesthesia for a lapband in the future. The biggest risks of surgery are not the anesthesia but the postop course which for a lap-band is very safe compared to gastric bypass which holds the bigger risks. Postop they have to watch for blood clots, pulmonary embolism and infection.

I'm still in the preop process and hope to be done in November. I'm an operating room nurse and it is a very physical job, almost like construction work. I lift, push, pull all kinds of equipment and patients. How long do I need to take off work? I hope three weeks is enough. Any thoughts? karinsky

I'm going through the process of getting ready for a band. I just can't get used to the fact of having this thing in me forever. Does anyone know if anybody can ever keep weight off after band removal? I would be willing to keep it in a few years but forever I don't know? Karinsky
