  1. lherstine - Let me know how your fill goes. I am also getting a fill tomorrow the 5th and can't wait. I'm glad to see that you're doing fabulous also. I've only lost 4 pounds in the past month, but its hard to complain when I look at the total for the last 5 months. I love my band.

  2. Allykat - You needed to do this for you. You're young and healthy right now, but believe me the older you get the more the excess weight wears on you. My husband has always accepted me how I was, but he definitely sees how the weight has been hard on me and my health.

Try to remember that this isn't as much about looks as it is for your health. I never had the band to improve my looks. It was all about my health. Just keep reassuring him that you want to be healthy for him and your family. That you want to be able to always do things as a family and not sit on the side lines and watch. I have 3 active teenage sons at home and they like to go places and do things as a family. I haven't been able to do that for quite a few years. They've gone white Water rafting, canoeing, kayaking, etc with their father while I sit out and wait. No longer, starting this summer I'll be there with them.

My lapband had nothing to do about how I look. It had everything to do about my health. I wanted and needed to be healthy for my husband and my sons as much as I did for me.

In regards to going out to eat, we do it quite often. Nothing has changed there except for what and how I eat. I just bring home leftovers and my husband or my boys eat them later.

Give your husband time to adjust. Once he thinks about your health and how much better your family life will be, hopefully he'll change his mind.

Keep thinking positive. Be strong enough for both of you. Give him time to find out for himself that what you have together is not going to change. Good Luck.

  3. I'm on coumadin also and yes they will need you off coumadin before the surgery. Your cardiologist and lapband surgeon will decide how they want to handle it. They had me stop the coumadin about 3 days prior to surgery and then was on lovenox, but I started back on coumadin the day after surgery. Everyone's circumstances are different, mine is due to a heart condition and not a pulmonary embolism. Good luck.

  4. The weight should help quite a bit. I've been able to greatly reduce the amount of perscription meds I'm on. I was taking blood pressure medicines twice a day and now am only taking one at a lower dose. I also was able to stop taking lasix and I lowered my dose of chlorestrol meds. I hope to be able to completely drop my bp and chlorestrol with more weight loss.

  5. I have the 14cc band with only 3 cc's in it and one fill. I have finally hit a plateau and have no restriction, but am being very careful with what I eat, but it doesn't seem to matter. The scale hasn't moved at all for about 2 1/2 weeks. My next appointment isn't until the 5th of March and I only wish it was tomorrow. I'm soo tired of being good and it not showing, the will power is definitely slipping away.

  6. The band is one of the best things I've ever done. I only wish I could have gotten it earlier, but I was self-pay and the money wasn't easy to come by. The pain and the discomfort from surgery is short lived. It won't be long before it's just a memory. Life with the band is not much different than before. You can eat most of what you want, you just have to limit the amount. And isn't that what we all want.

Fortunately, I was never terrified at all. I was so excited to get it that I never gave it a second thought. Good luck with your journey.

  7. lherstein- you're doing great. I can't believe that they've let you have 4 fills already. I've lost about the same as you and have only had one fill so far (I'm so needing another). Where I have my fills, they won't give you a fill if you've lost on average 2 or more pounds per week. I'm just now starting to fall below that. In fact I haven't lost anything for over 2 weeks now and I can't get in for a fill for about another 3 weeks. The clinic I go to is always booked solid for 4 to 6 weeks. In fact they're already booking into April.

I hope this fill works for you. Good Luck.

  8. Shinyhappymommy - In regards to sacrament bread. I just didn't partake of the sacrament for the first 2 or 3 weeks after surgery. Where everyone said bread was so bad, I didn't want to gag during the meeting. It did feel sort of weird sitting there and not taking it though.

re: politics - I have trouble thinking of any of the present candidates as being president. The only way I would vote for McCain is with Mitt as VP.

  9. Bigunc - Just a suggestion for when you take the Lovenox. First those injections can be really painful so ice down the area on the stomach where you plan to inject it. The first time I had to do them no one told me this. I tried this on my 2nd round and it helped quite a bit.

I also take Metoprolol (100mg) and coumadin daily. My doctor just started me on the Metroprolol again. It didn't help th first go around. I'm one who has an episode about once a month of a-fib. It lasts around 12-18 hours and then just clears up. Two ablations helped somewhat, but I'm one who has to learn to live with it. The hope is that medication will lower the heart rate during each episode enough to maintain normal activities while I'm in a-fib. So far no such luck. They say that if this can't be done, then they'll have to completely ablate the heart and put in a pacemaker. My father has this. His heart won't beat at all without his pacemaker. I don't really want to have this.

Good luck to everyone with their a-fib and the lapband.

  10. I was really sad to see Mitt Romney drop out. Now I only hope that McCain picks him as his Vice Presidental running mate. I don't know how realistic that wish is, but stranger things have happened before. If not, there's always 2012.

  11. There's no problem with taking both acidolphilus and eating activia. In fact, it was recommended to me by a nurse practitioner who specializes in naturalpathic medicine and I also asked the same question to my lapband doctor.

  12. I love the activia yogurt and have recently found it in light which has 8 sugars per container.

I also take acidolphilus, but not regularly. You can now find it in most pharmacies or in wal-mart. They're usually by the Vitamins and minerals. Depending on the form you purchase, they should be refrigerated. These will help regulate your body whether you're having trouble with Constipation or with diarrhea(spelling?). One other benefit of acidolphilus is that it will help with yeast infections. Some people can get yeast infections when they take antibiotics. Whenever I have to take antibiotics I also take acidolphilus. Don't mean to carry on, but it's been quite helpful for me.

  13. Welcome Allykat - I also was self-pay and it was well worth the money. I only wish that I could have found the money earlier and had it done. I think being self-pay has helped me stay focused. My family had to give so much financially that I can't let them down.

I hope you enjoy your band as much as I do mine. At times I feel it's too good to be true. I've tried all my life to diet and have always failed. This is the first time in the past 30 years that I've been able to loose more than 20 pounds. Hope all goes well.

  14. President Hinckley was such a wonderful man and prophet. Even my children always knew that there was something special about him. I can remember when my one son was in third grade and had to answer a trivia question at school. The question was "who is the president". He came to me after school and told me how he knew he got it correct, he was so excited. I asked him what he put as an answer, he stated President Hinckley, of course. He was the only president that mattered to him. I'll never forget that moment.

I look forward to all that President Monson has in store for us now. I've grown to love him also.

  15. Gingerbug - I had my first and only fill on 11/29. The clinic where I get my fills will not fill if you continue to loose on an average 2 pounds or more per week. I was scheduled for next week, but after speaking with them on the phone and giving them my current weight they said maybe next month. I have had to canceled 3 appointments so far. I too have very little restriction and am loosing with the aid of dieting and will power along with the band. At times I am very frustrated about not having fills, but I'm also very pleased that I'm controlling it so far. I keep telling myself to be patient. I also tell myself to save the fills for when I really need them.

Keep up the good work. Remember some people never have a fill. The band itself is enough.

  16. For me the Protein and taste are much more important than the low fat. I try to watch the sugars more than the fat. They tend to add more sugars to the low fat than they do to the regular. So give me cheese, any type of cheese. I eat it daily. Swiss, Cheddar, parmesean, blue cheese, etc. I love my cheese! It makes a great late afternoon snack. That's my problem time, it's too long between lunch and dinner and the cheese is very satisfying.

  18. I was self-pay and had 3 hernias repaired when the lapband was performed. The doc informed me that most likely the insurance wouldn't kick enough in to make a difference. He stated that he had tried to fight that in the past and it was considered insurance fraud. He did bill them and so far all they've paid is for the post op visits to his office that dealt with the hernias. I also contacted the anesthesit's(?spelling) office since I didn't have to prepay them. They did bill the insurance and they covered part of that expense.

Maybe you'll have better luck than I did.

  19. I made it - I didn't know if I would, but the last 5 days has been great to my weight loss.
