    Banded, now what?

I'm in the same boat as all of you. I was banded on 10/11 and won't have my first fill until 11/29. That's 7 weeks. I lost a lot with my preop diet and the first 2 weeks being banded, but since then it's at a crawl. I also feel that I'm starving myself. I don't know how I could get by with eatting any less. I'm also staying away from carbs. Trying to mainly eat Protein like tuna, chicken, eggs, cottage cheese and so forth. What's the worst is when someone ask me how much weight I've lost and I've only lost 1 pound in the last 2 1/2 weeks. You know they're thinking that I haven't been trying. It's going to be a long month, but I'm determined to make it work. I'm also having a hard time with the exercise portion. Things are so busy with working and 3 teenage boys at home. I already getting up at 5:00am and am going all day long, but I know that I have to fit it in sooner or later. Hopefully that'll be sooner. Good luck to all of you.

    First Fill

Hatmama - thanks for your post. I too have been feeling like an idiot not knowing what size band I had. And yes my doctor did give me a card for my wallet with medical information and after reading your post I read it and found out that I had a 14cc band. I had briefly looked at it before, but not that closely. I was banded on 10/11 and am waiting for my first fill. That won't be until after Thanksgiving. Thanks for the info.

    Im New Help Me !!

I think that its pretty normal that you're still hungry. As your swelling goes down you're less and less restrictive. I've found that by the 3rd to 4th week you can eat a lot more and am hungry more. I'll be glad to get my first fill. They say once you get your fill (maybe 2 or 3 fills) that the hunger goes away. I'm 4 weeks since being banded and do get hungry, but I'm working really hard not to give in to it. Knowing that my first fill is coming, helps alot. Good Luck

    Im New Help Me !!

You're not alone. I was banded on 10/11 and have enjoyed searching the site and seeing what others have to say. If you go to the monthly support group you'll find an October 07. These are people who were banded in the month of October. You'll see there's quite a few. Just keep exploring and you'll find lots of good information. Good luck.
  5. I'm fairly new to this site and tell me just what is the tenacious tens? Is this for everyone banded in October? If so, count me in. My name is Gina and I was banded on October 11th in Albany, Georgia. I am a parapro (teacher's aid) working with special needs children in South Georgia. Besides my wonderful husband of 25 years and my four sons (ages 13, 14, 16, & 23) all of my family live in Oregon. In regards to pets, I have 4 dogs. A german shepherd, a boykin spaniel, a germador (1/2 german shepherd and 1/2 lab), and a golden retriever. They keep me as busy as my teenagers.
  6. I went to the seminar in June, but it took me a couple of months to line up the money. I too was a self-pay. Once I had the money, I had the surgery 3 weeks later. I made my appointment and they schedule the surgery that day. I took care of all my preop that day, paid for it and 2 weeks later I had the surgery. That was on Oct. 11, 2007. I had been wanting this for over a year and had waited long enough. I am so glad that it finally happened. Good luck!

Congratulations on being banded. I was banded on October 11, 2007 in Douglas, Georgia. I noticed you were from Portland and I wish I was there. I was born and raised there and all of my family are there. I'm glad that you have a support group at your hospital. I live almost 2 hours from where I had my surgery, so this is the only place I can go to hear from others. How are you handling the diet? Are you still on all liquids? I'm getting ready to transtition to the pureed diet. Really rather looking forward to it. Good Luck and I hope things keep going well for you.

Sghatl - I had two abdominal hernias. My doctor said it was a real mess inside, but from what many others are saying, I don't think it affected my recovery very much. My first week was pretty miserable, but now at 10 days, I'm almost feeling normal. Good luck with yours.
  9. I feel strange writing this, I've never posted to anything before. I was banded 10 days ago on Oct. 11th in Albany, Georgia. My doctor is Dr. Bagnato. I feel very fortunate to finally be banded. I've wanted this for over 2 years, but insurance would not pay. While Dr. Bagnato was doing the surgery he also repaired 2 hernias so my recovery was a little rougher than most, but things are finally going well. I also feel that my age was another reason things wer a little rough the first week. I'm 50 and my BMI was 50, so I have a long way to go. After 10 days, I'm really starting to feel well. No nausea or hunger pains. I've also been fortunate wherein I haven't thrown up at all. I'm hoping this will continue, but an expecting it to eventually hit me. Now if I can only drink all my fluids and get in enough Protein. :faint:

    October 2006 Bandsters!

Hi everyone. I was banded on October 11th. It's now been 10 days and I'm feeling better all the time. What's this about a protein shake diet before surgery? My doctor put me on sugar busters for 2 weeks prior. That wasn't too bad. Now that I'm past the clear liquids week and into the full liquids week, I'm just now beginning the protein drinks and between meal liquids. Good Luck to everyone. Gina in Georgia.

Thanks for replying, but I have some questions. I'm new to this forum and am having finding myself around. You mentioned joining up with the fellow October bandsters, how do I find that? I've lost 24 pounds as of my one week post op. That was 3 weeks from the start of my preop diet.
