    October Buddies wanted

My surgery is Oct. 20th! Hard to believe it is finally here!
  5. I am currently waiting to have surgery and started this journey at 273 pounds. I have lost 32 on my own and am currently at 241. I am wondering if people who have lost the weight have lost all over? I know it will be specific for every body type but I am so curious to see what it could be like for me! Anyone out they'd start around 275 and have before/after pictures to share? If not...no worries!

Awe that sucks! Hopefully the plan you are on now will help with the weight loss and you will be able to get the surgery. I guess it is just a waiting game.

    Saskatchewan RNY?

I started last Nov. and completed the 6 months. I know it sounds crazy but I loved it! I enjoyed meeting with nutritionist/exercise therapist/psychologist. I am now on the wait list. I was called to go on Sept. 8th for surgery but had to decline the date due to work. I am hoping to go in Oct./Nov. How are you finding the program?

My very long story...August 1st surgery!

Becky...happy to hear you are doing so much here! Loved reading about your experience. I am still waiting for RNY but am on this forum to hear what REAL people experience..not just what the textbooks say...if that makes sense!?! You referred to a drain and a pain ball that had to cone out. Do you mind explaining more? If it is not something you are comfortable with...no worries! Keep up the posts...keeps me hopeful for the change I want!

    Fitness tracker opinions

Love my Fitbit!! I have the Flex. It tells me time, steps, calories burned, flights of stairs and active minutes. Syncs to my phone and each week I get a report on total distance, flights of stairs etc. it also monitors sleep patterns. It was recalled as the strap gave people a rash. I kept mine with no issues. Good luck!

Fall down 7 times. Stand up 8!

Loved reading about your journey!!! I am still waiting for a surgery date but have found great comfort/peace of mind in reading your posts. I started at 274. Have lost 32 and have main yes that for 3 months. I stumbled upon this app for my phone and am addicted! I come here to read about everyone's journey when I am tempted to fall back into old eating habits. Thank you for sharing!
  14. Did anyone begin shopping prior to surgery? By this I mean, looking for clothes in smaller sizes in anticipation of losing? How do people keep up with their change in size? Did anyone experience a change in foot size? Sorry for the odd question but no clue who else to ask!

How do you shop for a rapidly changing weight?

Thank you all for sharing! I live in Canada and have been shopping our local thrift store for gently used brand name clothes. I have a small collection of clothes that I am dreaming of wearing. A size 15/16 Calvin Klein jeans now hang in my closet. I am praying that they fit...one day!

    Complications

I am in the same boat! I started this journey in November 2013. We are put into groups of 3 and followed for 6 months as we work with a psychologist, exercise therapist and a nutritionist. It has been an amazing experience so far. The reason we do the 6 months is to show that we are committed to losing...I think! I have lost 32 pounds on my own with diet and exercise and was approved for surgery in May. We were told that the wait list for surgery was 2-6 months. I was called in early August to go in Sept. 8th but because of work commitments I am now waiting to be called in October. I am loving this app/site although I am still trying to figure out how to post and navigate. Thank you to everyone for sharing your experience...it makes this easier!

The Gastric Bypass is Rockstar League!

!I have no clue how to post on here, so hopefully this gets through. I just want to say that although I don't know any of you, I wish you lived down the street from me! I am waiting for surgery and happened to find this app/site looking for more information about RNY. I just wanted to hear from real people about the trials and tribulations of WLS. I am still learning the lingo but love these posts from all of you! Now...I wonder if this will post AND if I will ever navigate myself back to this page! If I do get back..will anyone mind me asking questions? I was schedules to have my RNY on Sept. 8th but because of work I had to defer until October.
  20. I am so new to this and have no clue where to start. I am still learning the WLS lingo and trying to figure out how to navigate on here. If this posts it will be a small miracle!

    February 2014 post op losers

Hi Sarah - I've been struggling a bit with making choices when I'm eating out or at someone else's house but I'm doing fine at home. What situations are you struggling with? Wanting to eat all the old fried foods etc? I went to a reception last Friday for international students and had a few things I should not have (a fried spring rolls; 2 fried samosas; a fried shrimp purse). I felt ill about 30 minutes later, threw up and had to come home. The next morning was spent in the bathroom! These negative repercussions are great reminders but we don't always get them - especially if we sneak just a little of the fried foods/sugar into our diet every day - not enough to actually make us sick. My first thought is - just don't keep any bad/tempting foods in the house Is that possible or do you have a partner/children who want those things around? My local face-to-face support group has started reading "Women, Food and God" by Geneen Roth. Discussing that together is going to help me I think (and despite the title, it's not a "religious" book - more Buddhist philosophy - living in the moment etc.). I also did some work with a psychologist before my WLS surgery which was very valuable. If we don't also work on the reasons we ate too much before, we may not be as successful after surgery. We need to change our way of thinking about food; our relationship with food. The surgery is a tool to help us control the quantity of food we eat, but it's not a magic bullet - we are responsible for the quality of the food we put in our mouths. For example, my relationship with my mother was an influence on my eating and I had to change my thinking and accept responsibility for my own actions. OK, sermon over! Tell us more about your struggles and maybe someone will have a suggestion that helps. Good luck - stay positive. You're still losing despite your struggles. I'm jealous that you're in ONEderland - that's absolutely fantastic. Congratulations! I have no clue how to post on here, so hopefully this gets through. I just want to say that although I don't know any of you, I wish you lived down the street from me! I am waiting for surgery and happened to find this app/site looking for more information about RNY. Now...I winder if this will post AND if I will ever navigate myself back to this page!
