What causes weight gain after sleeve surgery?

The day before surgery I spoke with one of the doctors at my surgeon's office, he is a nutritionists and has a sleeve too so he spoke form the medical standpoint and from a patients perspective too. What hee said really has struck with me, he said, that the most important part of weight loss surgery was my "mind" , I needed to change mentally to be successful. I get it, I need to change, having a smaller stomach helps me, makes is easier and more realistic but I have to do the work.
  2. I have just started my journey and am still at the honeymoon stage, I love my sleeve, I am losing weight and finally getting what works and doesn't. I am at a stage that I think: I will never regain, I know it can happen but I will do everything I have to do and prevent it. OK so today, feeling a little bit down emotionally and I seem to be finding all the posts of people struggling and recommendations all seem to go towards needing therapy, counseling, etc. I am obese, I know I have food issues, but basically my question is, can we get past them on our own? or do we all need some kind of professional help? Are we kidding ourselves thinking we ill work our issued out as we go along?
  3. I went with my mother as her companion to have surgery at Mexicali Bariatric Center the year before so when it was my turn I naturally went there. She had a co worker recommend the hospital and doctor, this is how she found them, I just followed. I was so impressed with the care that I did not feel the need to look elsewhere.

    Post op surgery

My doctors office asked me to first increase my Water daily before trying anything, I did double what I was having and that did it. Check and see if you are meeting your daily water quota.
  6. Thank you I feel this was meant for me to read. I am at the "this will not happen to me stage" I admit it.

I am so angry at myself

Yeah! Not the best way to get there but you did it!
  8. So this was humiliating, I know I am overweight but I have always been looking out for my mom who had always been overweight and older of course. Back track one year and she had her gastric sleeve surgery, I went with her to Mexicali and she had her sleeve done by Dr. Aceves. I went with her but at the time was not convinced this was something I needed to do. Ha! As she lost weight, got more active and looked and felt much better I started debating more and more about it. Even my husband was on board before I was, a little stubborn I am , I know. A month and a half ago I had surgery with Dr. Wilhelmy in Mexicali too. I had already been there once and knew this was the place I was to have my surgery done too. I am only a month and half out of surgery and have already lost 34.5 lbs. I still have a lot to go but feel great and really feel I will get to my goal of losing 140 lbs. So this weekend I am with my mom and we had to either climb 3 floors up or take the elevator. Feeling energized and motivated by my weightloss I am all for the stairs. Well, I guess I need to try them again in a month or two. Let me just say that I do walk 2-3 times a week and it is not the same to walk around the track and to climb stairs. By the 2nd flight I am out of breath and feeling dizzy, my mom??? doing great, ready to continue. I could not take the elevator at this point, a pride thing, so I sucked it up and kept climbing LOL I can't believe what my pride made me do! I was lucky I did not faint, I felt that bad. Felt really prod of her, she has lost over 100 lbs and deserves all she has accomplished but still felt pretty bad. if I look at the bright side I did make it which I am sure 34 lbs ago would not have been possible. Still have a long way to go and catching up to my mom will help me keep on track!
  9. I know I am still overweight but I have always been able to look after my mom who had always been overweight too AND much older. But this weekend I was humiliated by her new physical abilities. Back track 1 year. I accompany her to Mexicali so she can get her gastric sleeve done by Dr. Aceves. While there I still was in denial mode thinking I did not need to have surgery myself , why?? No idea. As she loses weight, feels better and gets healthy I start thinking about it, in the meantime I gain 10 more libs of course. Even my husband was on board before I was. When I decided on the sleeve there was really only one place I was going and that was to Mexicali and my surgeon was Dr. Wilhelmy. I had a terrific experience , as I expected and have had my sleeve since August 6th. I have lost 34. 5 lbs since surgery and 40 since my pre op diet. So this weekend my mom are out and need to either climb 3 flights of looong stairs or take the elevator. Feeling confident and energized with my weight loss I am all for the stairs. Big mistake, I am not past the 2nd flight and I am out of breath and dizzy, I thought I would faint! Now my pride did not permit me to take the elevator after my mom is looking fresh and ready to keep going. Now I do all 2-3 times a week but it is NOT the same to climb stairs for sure. So I tough it out and make it up alive and still conscious. Can't believe what my pride made me do! Now I know what my new goal will be, get in better shape than my senior mom. She has lost over 100 lbs and keeps more active than she did in her 20's. I have my work cut out for me.
  10. I want to share my experience with Dr. Wilhelmy in Mexico, Mexico. I had my sleeve surgery almost a month and a half ago and since have gotten a number of people contacting me with questions and my surgery experience which I am happy to share! I have to say that I had already been to Almater Hospital in Mexicali last year when my mom had her sleeve done. I was her companion and we were pretty nervous that time but her surgeon came highly recommended so we went. Everything that time was really exceptional, we were met at the airport in San Diego by Ernesto the driver and we were taken to the hospital to meet with the doctors and haver her tests done. I was immediately impressed with the hospital and with the staff taking care of us. We met the surgeon and other doctors the morning of surgery. The hospital is spotless and house keeping cleans all day long. The doctors visited her 2-3 times a day and she was checked on, had tests daily and really kept her moving to help her recovery along. A really wonderful experience. My mom had already lost close to 100 lbs when I decided I wanted to have surgery too. I had my surgery August of this year and Dr. Wilhemly was my surgeon. I am very very pleased with the entire experience once again, the level of care is outstanding. I already knew all the staff but was the first time meeting my surgeon. He is a very nice and caring man, his bed side manner is wonderful. He also visited me daily, all post op tests were done by Dr. Campos just like when my mom was there earlier and I got to meet Dr. Beltran who I had not met on the first trip there. I can recommend Dr. wilhelmy and the entire staff at Mexicali Bariatric Center without hesitation. I am 40 lbs less since my pre op diet and 34.5 since my surgery. I have not had any problems and am very happy to have had my sleeve done. I have already recommended Dr Wilhelmy to several friends and they are looking into it. I rate this surgeon and hospital with 5 stars !

    My story

Many of us had sugary out of the country and rely and sites like this for support, you are in the right place!
  12. It depends on how experienced a surgeon you want. I just had surgery with Dr Wilhemy in Mexicali and previously my mom had had surgery with Dr. Aceves. Both very good experiences and great results so far. We preferred to pay more once to reduce our chances of a complication being at a better hospital and also having senior surgeon with more experience. There are always risks but a 25 year surgeon vs a young surgeon is always better in my book. That was my personal choice. I had surgery to be healthy and be around for my kids for a long long time so I spent more to be safer and ensure better results long term.
  13. How did your surgery go? did you already have it done?
  14. I just had surgery with Dr Wilhelmy at Mexicali Bariatric Center on August 6th. My experience was excellent! A bit about my story. My mom had her sleeve done in 2013 with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali and I went with her. We were VERY impressed with the hospital and with the care she received. Couldn't be happier with her sleeve either. When I decided to have surgery done, I would not have considered going any place else. Everything was just that good! I had no doubt I wanted to be at the same hospital with the same doctors taking care of me. Sadly Dr. Aceves was not available to do my surgery but I knew of the experience the whole team had and was vey impressed with Dr. Wilhelmy's credentials. I wanted someone just as experienced as Dr. Aceves, someone with many years as a surgeon and with a reputation just as solid. Although money is important experience and results were way more important to me. I was not disappointed! My mom and I both agreed that the care she received a year ago and the care I got this month was just as good. They really are a very professional, caring and experienced team. I felt safe the entire time. Dr. Wilhelmy visited me daily, he makes you feel confident and sure that you will succeed with your new tool. I really cannot recommend them enough, if you are going to have surgery there you will not be disappointed either. They are the absolute BEST in my book.
