OMG!! I remember like it was yesterday, even though it was 10 years ago, After my lapband surgery I could only eat 1 Tbsp of water or protein shake and I would hurt so badly as if I had eaten 2 steak dinners. So I had to go down to literally eating a tsp of water or protein shake or chicken broth. I would still feel EXTREMELY STUFFED, but it wouldn't last long. I was STARVING all day long every aingle day for months! Couldn't get anything down for the longest time, despite not having a fill. I don't recall having ever felt so damn miserable in my life! Starving, but couldnt eat at all! I asked my surgeon about it during each appointment. I repeatedly asked him why I was so hungry and could only sip a tsp. a few times a day, and he told me the RnY patients were the ones who didn't get hungry. I was sooo disappointed and depressed. Finally, one day, a few months down the road, I was able to get half a soft scrambled egg down. That was one of the happiest days of my life!!!

I've also heard from many sleeve patients that GERD actually becane a problem for them several years down the road after surgery.

Hmmm I think she looks like an average 52 year old in a one piece on a beach?? I peraonally think she looked HORRIBLE in the other pictures! She was severely underweight and looked severely malnourished. Perhaps she could lose 10-20 pounds?? But she definitely doesn't look as if she's gained or needs to lose 80 lbs!!! This world we live in is pathetic!!! Goodness!!!

I have heard of this happening and I actually have frienda who have fallen victim to this. Be careful! Each and every one of them unfortunately have since gained their weight back. I feel this is due to not getting their minds right. The weight came off so quickly that the mind didn't have a chance to catch up. Karma sucks and is real and has bitten them in the ass. You dont want that to happen to you. Get real friends (if you don't already have any). They will help in trying y to keep you in check .Good thing you are able to recognize and own up to your shortcomings! All the best!

The DS is also great for those auffering from pcos/insulin resistance/metabolic issues. However, there are serious malabsorption issues and supplements must be taken vigorously for the remainder of life. I am actually familiar with many people who have pcos/insulin resistance syndrsome and have had the sleeve for several years and have been successful with maintaining their loss after reaching goal. I think it all depends on sleeve size as well as other factors. .

Hello!!! I also live in Sunny SD, but right now, I'm not really enjoying the sun. It's soooo hot! Can't believe we're having another heat wave so soon after the last one. As far as surgeons in Mexico, I've heard a lot of people on this site as well as ObsityHelp.com say they've had great experiences with some of the bariatric centers South of the border. The trick is finding/knowing the right one to go to. You will have to do tons of research to find a reputable one. Many people have posted about their surgeons/weightloss centers. I wish I could remember the names of the really good ones I've read about, but I don't. So sorry, but if you keep searching these support sites, you will soon find the info you need. I don't know about this site, but obesityhelp.com has a thread about good weight loss surgeons in Mexico. Hope this helps, and hope you find a great surgeon. I have had the lap band for 9 years. Never had any problems prior to my surgery but experienced sooo many stomach/digestive probs (including what you're describing) upon occasion. Can't remember what I was prescribed last time. Looking forward to having my band removed soon. Hope things get better for you really soon.

There are also other support websites out there, such as obesityhelp.com and realself.com. Obesity help has a GREAT DS forum with vets who are more than happy to help and quite knowledgeable. Look up Valerie!

Sweetie it's so true! While there are some who have had success with the band and love it, many have serious complications (that can cause permanent damage), and others just don't reach/maintain the results they seek. I had band surgery in 2005. I did lose a considerable amount of weight until it stopped working in 2008. In 2009, I finally found out through the company that the band I had had developed a leak, which explained why it no longer functioned as it should have. I have gone through hell with this thing and would not encourage anyone to get it. That being said, i do not regret wls. However, I do regret having the band and not getting a 2nd or 3rd opinion as to whether it was truly the right option for me. If you can, seek out the opinions of other weightloss surgeons to see if they agree with the option your original weightloss surgeon has decided would be best for you. Think long and hard about your options. Do TONS of research. Meditate/pray on it, and then make your decision. Best, KattattaK

I'm so very sorry to hear about your father. Yes 58, in my opinion, is quite young! Thanks so much for the encouragement. I will definitely be thinking about your experience, along with the experiences of others on this site as I contemplate whether or not the surgery is for me. I had the privilege of meeting a woman about my age recently who had just had sleeve surgery 6 days prior to starting work at her summer assignment. I could not believe she was up walking, let alone working! She shared tons of info and resources regarding the surgery and told me that 2 other co-workers had it approximately the same time she had hers; they all pretty much made up their minds to do it together and are now trying to start their very own support group. Prior to meeting her, I hadn't known anyone who had had this particular type of wls. It's nice to have someone to actually watch go through the entire process. Please keep us all posted on your progress!

I haven't had vsg, but I don't care for things that are too sweet, so I stick to organic grass-fed whey protein shakes sweetened with stevia. They aren't so sweet and are smooth and yummy.

Yep! My pcos along with my insulin resistance is what got my lap band wls approved in 2005. Still have the band but it developed a leak in 2008 and it hasn't been filled since 2009.

Very encouraging!! I'm a newbie here and am still on the fence about the surgery, as I am a bit of a scaredy kat when it comes to surgeries, especially one such as this. I lost weight successfully with the lap band, but it developed a leak and stopes working. My doc has suggested vsg revision, but I get anxious just thinking about it! I truly feel you and the other members of this community who have undergone wls are quite brave. I hope some of that bravery rubs off on me.

Jesswls, you are absolutely right!!! More than likely, the dizziness is due to low blood sugar from not getting adequate calories/nutrition. Jessicavtec1, I hope your dizziness clears up soon. I know what that feeling is like, and it's not exactly fun

Had my band installed in 2005. It stopped working a few years later due to a leak. I haven't had it filled since 2009 and will be having it removed soon. Since I have not had mine removed yet, I can't speak on how it feels without it. However, I have read several posts from sooo many bandsters who speak about how great they felt once their bands were removed and how much they wish they had had it removed sooner. I think these are signs your body is giving you that this is not the best wls option for you. Have it removed before any further or worse damage is done!

Mermaiddeams, I'm in a similar situation. Can't wait to get this thing out and heal. Then, I will consider revision surgery. Not sure if I can handle all that comes with wls again. It has been tough! Also, I experience the heart pounding as well. What the heck is that from!?!? Do you know? I never had it prior to the band and have been wondering if it is related to this crappy device.

I have heard something about eggface.com (I think that's it??) and apparently, she has amazing recipes for each stage of wls. Hope this helps!
