Uh right, sure. Well what they don't get and never will get is that they have no right, NONE, to interject their wishes upon that baby or that mother. The only person with that right is the mother. That is because without the mother the child doesn't exist. The child is dependent upon the mother-host for it to have any chance for survival. Interjecting themselves between a mother and a fertilized egg while it is in the mother's uterus, is ludicrous. We have had that kind of law in place before and the result was horrific. I totally agree with the womans right to choose as you can see from my previous post,I have to say though the key phrase that gets to me in the above statement - and with the whole issue - is the ' dependent on the mother-host', you see at 28 weeks it isnt......... I totally understand that they shouldnt be forced to continue with a pregnancy they dont want , but it does beg a few questions in the whole healthy mum/baby senario, like why it took 28 weeks to make up her mind?? In those cases then I do feel that they should (even though I dont agree with it to be honest) be allowed to start off the labour, but I cannt see why they insist that the baby is killed first??? If they have no emotional attachment what difference does it make to them? Nina x Like I said, this thing may not go quietly away with a change in the Oval Office, but believe me, many, many of us will never put up with the government interjecting itself into women's uteruses again. By the way, you made an excellent point about legislating bodily functions. What if we passed a law that said that the government gets to decide when and if a woman can have a baby? What if we were so overrun with children that it threatened our planet? What if women were compelled BY LAW to HAVE abortions? Well, if you can force a woman to have a baby, it isn't too much of a stretch to say that we can force a woman NOT to have a baby, given the right circumstances. Neither scenario would be right or good. We just won't stand for it. Nor should we. Thank you for your passionate and thoughtful post, SSDiva. We must stay united to ensure that women never become just a commodity in this country. -

I typed the longest reply yesterday and then lost it as the board crashed!!! Grrrrr!!! Anyhoo...... ***They actually have a remarkably good outcome. I could quote you statistics but I'm running short on time. If you'd like them, I can try to find you a link to something -- let me know*** Hmmmm define remarkably good http://www.bmj.com/content/vol329/issue7467/images/large/preterm01.f9.jpeg Epidemiology of preterm birth -- Tucker and McGuire 329 (7467): 675 -- BMJ as you can see if you click on at 22 weeks 1% survives and of that 0.7% survives without a disability I dont know about any one else but those odds would have me sobbing if I was in pre-term labour. ***I'm still looking this up and will have it for you later. I do have: Marcus Richardson, 19 weeks, 6 days, 780 grams, January 1972 University Hospital, Cincinnati. There were many very young preemies born pre-internet era and so you might not find them there.**** (sorry dont know how to work the quote thingy???) I looked up those names and the ONLY place that they appear is on an anti-abortion website, sorry gadget that makes me verrrry suspicious of them, and even if they are true ( which I doubt) the youngest on there is 19 weeks and 6 day which is nearly 20 weeks NOT 18weeks ***Go to Pregnancy.org > First Trimester Fetal Development - week 1 through week 14 and scroll down to 9 and 10 weeks (I wish I could post the photos here but I can't get it to work). That doesn't look like a butter bean to me, and the arms and legs are well defined. After all, at 11 weeks, the baby is getting FINGERNAILS -- he couldn't do that without FINGERS. Maybe by the time you miscarried there was degradation?**** Gadget - they are talking about weeks POST CONCEPTION!!! If you read the text they describe week 1 as the moment of implantation, pregnancies are always described using the GESTATIONAL age which adds on 2 weeks, basicaly add 2 weeks onto the pictures to see what gestational age you have to be at to see that. And yes their picture of a six week pregancy looked just like my little butter Beans. I have been pregnant 14 times and seen 100's of scans and I am telling you at 6 weeks (gestation) you see a curve with, if you are lucky, a flashing for the heartbeat. No there hadnt been decomposition inside me , I knew on the Monday that there was something wrong, had a private scan, saw the slowest heartbeat ever, went back daily until the Wednesday when he had gone I even insisted on another scan later that day before I took the tablets cos I wanted it to have been a mistake. And just so you know the people who were sh1tty with me were doing it before I got the tablets, sheesh you would have thought that the fact that me and DH were sobbing would have been a clue !! *****It is generally not a crime that has along with it a desire to procreate. But the intent isn't important here -- it is a vile, disgusting crime and I feel for the women who have had to endure it. I have several friends who have been raped**** How long dya think they would have stayed your friends if they had got pregnant and you had had the power to force them to go through with the pregnancy............. ****Again, a horrible and extremely sad situation. Remember, though, that these diagnoses are not always correct. Further, if someone told me my 7YO had cancer and 1 month to live, I certainly wouldn't take her out into the backyard and shoot her. I'd do everything in my power to get her the medical attention to ensure her survival.**** I would hope so!!! And her chances of survival nowadays would be great, unlike my friend whose baby had 50% of its head missing only a rudimentary brain stalk, completely open spinal cord, only stumps instead of arms and legs, oh yes and its bladder was a closed end tube so it took up almost all its abdomen and would eventually in the doctors opinion have ruptured.......she was 16 weeks and wanted that baby desperately, she had her labour induced because she didnt want to carry that baby for another 5 months, she knew that she would have a breakdown if she had to, and yes it was the hardest thing she has ever done, but it was the right thing for her. I will never see the need to inject a perfectly healthy baby in the heart, rather than induce the labour and sign over all rights if the baby survives, so we do agree on some things gadget :car: Nina xx -
You know I hadnt even thought about that........ YIPEEE what a shopping spree!!! NIna x

Ooooh this is a hot one, though I just cant help myself I have to take issue with some of the points raised. I have 6 kids so for me, I am pro-life,always have been, always will be.....for the rest of woman kind I am pro-choice. Firstly show me where you got the stats on the 18 weeks being sustainable, you see I have spent time in special care units, and on ante-natal units and I have never seen a baby of that gestation surviving long enough to make it to the SCBU. Just to be sure I googled it James Elgin Gill (born on 20 May 1987 in Ottawa, Canada) was the earliest premature baby in the world. He was 128 days premature (21 weeks and 5 days gestation) and weighed 1 lb. 6 oz. (624 g). He survived and is quite healthy.[10][11] Amillia Taylor is also often cited as the most-premature baby.[12] She was born on 24 October 2006 in Miami, Florida, at 21 weeks and 6 days gestation.[13] At birth she was 9 inches (23 cm) long and weighed 10 ounces (283 grams).[12] She suffered digestive and respiratory problems, together with a brain hemorrhage. She was discharged from the Baptist Children's Hospital on 20 February 2007.[12] The record for the smallest premature baby to survive was held for some time by Madeline Mann, who was born at 26 weeks weighing 9.9 oz (280 g) and 9.5 inches (24 cm) long.[14] This record was broken in September 2004 by Rumaisa Rahman, who was born in the same hospital[15] at 25 weeks gestation. The new record holder was a twin whereas the former was a single birth. At birth she was eight inches (20 cm) long and weighed 244 grams (8.6 ounces). Her twin sister was also a small baby, weighing 563 grams (1 pound 4 ounces) at birth. During pregnancy their mother had suffered from pre-eclampsia, which causes dangerously high blood pressure putting the baby into distress and leading to birth by caesarean section. The larger twin left the hospital at the end of December, while the smaller remained there until 10 February 2005 by which time her weight had increased to 1.18 kg (2 pounds 10 ounces).[16] Generally healthy, the twins had to undergo laser eye surgery to correct visual problems, a common occurrence among premature babies. There is an increasing movement towards using mifepristol and mifepristone ( yes the abortion drug) in early abortions to move away from the d&c. I have miscarried 8 babies in total so I can tell you catagorically that at 9/10 weeks there would be no collecting body parts, my babies were at most 3/4cm long and bless them looked like butter beans with the rudimentary beginnings of arms and legs. And dya know what even after sobbing over them I STILL defend the womans right to choose, oh and huge thanks all the pro-lifers in the hospital who when I had my dead babies labours induced treated me like shit til they read my notes............. How can you say that have compassion for victims of rape when what you plan to do would make them powerless again??? Do you not understand that rape is a crime instigated by a desire to control and have power over someone else, not by lust?????? I have never , and will never, agree with abortion being used as contraception and I think that everyone that has one should be fitted with an IUD so that it cant happen again, but I would NEVER want to see that choice taken away. What about embryos in IVF clinics???Where do they fall in the baby debate? What about when the baby is found to have so many problems in utero that they will die during or just after birth??Is it fair to MAKE that mother carry the baby for another 5 months being asked every day when the happy day will be??? Walk a mile in their shoes.... It is an insult to every Jew on the planet to compare abortion to the holocaust, I am not even going to dignify that with a response. The images that are widely used by pro-life groups are always of 2nd trimester abortions which account for a tiny percentage of the abortions carried out, but then I guess something that looks like a prehistorc prawn isnt going to grab the headlines huh? I think that there is a strong argument in the case of late termination of healthy babies for allowing the labour to be induced and making the mother sign all rights to the child over, I dont agree with healthy babies being killed when they can survive with the right help out of the womb. But just because I dont agree with it, to remove the right for a woman to have an abortion period, for the sake of the 0.1 percent that are used to catch the headlines is something that I find staggering. -
Hmmm , I have the opposite veiw in some ways, though I am in the UK so cant compare US to Mexico.Whilst I was banded in the UK - self pay, looked at the risks, weighed up that it is pretty in and out surgery and factored in the fills - there is noooo way that I would use even a private plastic surgeon from the local choice here for the tummy tuck, breast lift etc that I have got booked!!! Have you seen the problems that we have over here with MRSA and all the other superbugs????? I searched the world for my PS and chose him for skill and aftercare pure and simple, in the UK I would be out in 24 hours with paracetamol, with my PS in France I will be an in patient for 7 days, he lectures in the US etc etc. Language barrier maybe a bit of a problem but compared to the negatives about staying in the UK................ I guess it just comes down to what you are comfortable with when you have weighed it all up!

ROFL at some of these!!!! ;) I had one friend say ' go on a diet, give me £10,000 and I will make you go running with me' .......... no you dont say, diet and exercise if only I had know that 60lb ago smart ass!! My kids just say 'cooooool' and want to feel my port site ( ok ok, what can I say I have strange kids) Nina xx
-
Dya know my sister told me this and I thought she was trying to break my pre op diet coke addiction.....oh holy moly....is nothing sacred!!!
-
Hi Hon, I dont think it will have any effect on the weightloss honest!! I have just been fitted with a 10cc band and I have already lost 9lb. However I do think that you should schedule a consult with your doc and tell him how very unhappy you are about what happened, I suppose worse case senario he could have stopped the op and you would have come out bandless *gulp* but I still think you should have it out with him. Its kind of like you order a toyota and they deliver the equivalent Ford, they both drive the same but it aint the one you wanted!!! And stay away from the martini......I mean it * wagging finger* ((hug)) NIna xx

Hi and thanks for the welcome! I was banded 16th October feels like ages ago now ( or is that just the puree's speaking......) I am feeling so much better as each day goes by, the only thing I am struggling with at the moment is wearing an underwired bra when my port site swells.Dont suppose you have any helpful hints that dont include granny bras?? Look at you!! 30lbs already!! You must be looking gooood hon Nina x
-
OMG hon!!! (((((HUG))))) I dont know what to say I am speechless!! Did you specifically request the AP?Did you tell the surgeon how unhappy you are? What made you choose the AP over the old style 10cc one? Oh holy moses, dont you dare go near that martini hon , I nursed my mum through end stage cirrosis and it just aint worth it........ I am thinking free fills for life here!!!! They must owe you something!! Sending you huge cyber (((((hugs))))) Nina xx
-
Hi Hon, Welcome to the land of the band!! I am sorry that your surgeon had such a hard time doing the op, good for him though that he didnt give up you must be so relieved!! I havent heard of nash , does it cause you many problems? Nina x
-
hmmmm, I see your dilema..... but there is no reason for you to wear the band on your arm so to speak, people only have to know if you thought it would help them, and as for being pro-bands I would say that you are in a better postion to advise people who are struggling with food issues , than someone who has never had to battle those demons!!! Most kiddies dont have issues with food volume as much as unhealthy choices, and the band cant do that for you as we both know!!!!! I would argue that by the time you got your training your eating habits were already programmed in. I do understand your fears (((((hug)))) but I dont know what to say to help It will work out hon!! Nina xx
-
Me too!! My port is under my ribs middle left and if I wear underwired bras the bulge gets bigger and bigger!! You can easily feel it under the sking and it is all swollen around it and where the tubing is. Does this stop as it heals? Maybe we should post this on the main board??? Nina xx
-
Wish I could do the man burps!!! I feel like I am going to pop, I think that giving up diet coke has taken a lot of the belching pleasure out of my life ho hum. I am sooooo with you on the glugging noises though, what is going on in there??? Lovely feeling .....NOT.....LOL Nina x
-
lol at rain!!!!! Dya know the worrying thing is I can totally see that happening to me too......
-
Hi Marys, Looks like you have got your head to a really good place hon!! Your life sounds pretty packed too!!I actually think that the head issues are harder to deal with than the tummy ones, my eating habits sound very similar to yours, luckily I had been reading the board for ages before I got banded so I had got my head around the fact that it cant help with the 'mmmmmm I want a snicker' feeling!!!LOL - doesnt mean that I dont still want em though!! Hope to speak to you more soon. Nina xx

How long did it take you from approval to surgery?
nina874 replied to redbone0528's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am a selfpay bandster, but I just wanted to wish you all the luck in the world getting it through in time. NIna xx -
Oh betty, you should go for that job hon!!! I would sooooo much rather be seen by someone who wouldnt judge me, just think of the insight you could give them!!! I am not ashamed hon, I use my limited amounts of willpower for more important things......like not killing the kids in the school hols!!!LOL Nina x
-
Hi hon, I havent had a fill yet current residing in bandster hell, but I just wanted to say that I hope that everything goes ok on Monday ,maybe it will loosen up a bit when you rest it hon, hope you find your sweet spot soon NIna x
-
Look at yours!!! 11lb already crikey its flying off, you'll be strutting your stuff on the beach next year! I have to fly to manchester for fills ( have to wait 6 weeks though) but that means I get to see my sis so I dont mind really. Oh me and the mushies are getting along just fine, too flamin fine to be honest. Its so hard when you cant add a crisy salad or some lovely sugar snap peas mmmmmm, the easiest things to puree seem to be the carbs, I HATE mushy veg, and meat doesnt really work either.Just sent DH to get me some nice rainbow trout so I will bake it then puree it maybe with some puree spinach.Dya know what I would give to be able to chew....... of course you do!!LOL How is the healing going?I still get a bit of port pain if I wear an underwired bra but other than that I am ok. Keep losing hon NIna x
-
Hi Julie!!!! Yay!! Another UK bandster!!!I am in Cornwall but I used to live in Manchester and have loads of family there so thats where I got banded. I have got my first fill scheduled for the 26th Nov and it seems soooo far away!!!LOL Where did you get banded? How are you doing with the mushies have you tried them yet? At the moment its going well, my worry is the 2/3 weeks before the fill!! I am also the plataeu (?)queen, every time I have dieted in the past I start off great and then hit a certain weight and just stick there for weeks. Sooooo disheartening. NIna xx P.s I struggled with the ticker too!!!!
