Hello, I am an advid coffee drinker. I quit prior to my surgery, but after I recovered I started back up. I know they say not to use sugar, but if I do not like the coffee I am served I use sugar instead of artificial sweetners. I really think sugar is better for you if you have to have sweet. During this process my A1C has dropped from 9.1% to 6.0% without the aid of medications!!! Yay...I am now medicine free! I wish all of you the best of luck on your journey. I have a ways to go yet but am loving my band! Keith

Recent fill def made a difference but..

Hi, I have read through this post and found it very informative. First off let me say that I enjoy my band very much. It took about 4 month for me to start noticing any chaneg in my weight. I lost initially but then I started to gain weight.....bummer. But then the fills really started to kick in. I started at 353 and now at 290 today. I had my surgery 1 year ago this August. Last month I lost 11 pounds. I got a small fill a few days ago. I got .5 cc. I definately feel the difference. But I have started having the night cough stuff. I hate it! If I take a nap during the day....go figure I have no problem...only at night. So tongiht I am being very careful on my intake and see if that really helps. Thanks for your post people. I really enjoyed them. As I have read....us banders need one another. Take care, Keith PS. I now take no meds whatsoever. My A1C went from 9.1 to 6.0....YAY! -
I am a 52 year old male who was banded on Aug 14. Tomorrow marks one week. I have lost 11 pounds post surgery and with the weight loss from the pre-surgery diet I have lost a total of 23 pounds in 3 weeks. I am so thrilled with this. I was wondering if there are any men who have been banded that can help me and coach me through this. I appreciate all of the women in this forum, but I was just looking for an accountability partner so to speak. I am new to this posting stuff and would love someone to help me out as my journey begins. Thanks Keith

@@2muchfun wow nothing for 4 months? That sounds horrible! I am glad for you that you had a breakthrough. I am thankful for this forum so I can learn from those who have gone on before me, I am glad that things are going well for you now. Thanks -
Wow I understand and can relate to what everyone is saying. I was banded last Thursday and am so happy for doing it. Though the night after the surgery I did say..."Why did I allow this to happen to me, give me pain medicine....lol" but really I am so glad. I have told a few close friends and that is it. Not for sure why I have kept it quiet. I have heard things about others who have had WLS and people say that they are cheating taking the surgery route. I think that is a stupid statement. For years I yo yo dieted, some success and much failure. I had personal trainers and diet after diet. But still there were issues. In my mind there should be no shame, I do not look at it as cheating. We still all have to work on it and apply ourselves to make it happen. It is a tool to use to help us nothing more nothing less. It does help too. I saw Dr yeaterday and since my surgery last week I have taken no medicines at all. I was taking Metformin and Glipizide for sugar, My readings have been outstanding since surgery. 99, 103, 101, etc. The Doc said just watch your readings and maybe you may break free from the meds!!!!! Such good news to my ears. My knees already feel better. The pain is subsiding. I read for every pound you lose it takes 4 pounds of pressure off of your knees. WOW! If I am cheating....well so be it. So what is there is be ashamed of? I eventually will tell people about my WLS after I have some significant results. There are so many people who do not know what it is to fight obesity. It is real! So right now I am just here in this forum to talk and have a good time and to learn ways to help me from all of you nice people. Thanks to all who have already replied to me in other post. Take Care! Keith

@@2muchfun thanks for that. Just looking for support and help and guidence. This is all new to me but I am really stoked about it. Colorado is where I grew up. I lived and graduated in Loveland. Great place. -
@@dayana4100 thank you for your post. Congrats on the surgery! I did my surgery on Aug 14th. I am just starting to have hunger pains as well. My instructions tell me to have 2 oz of protien every two hours. Also to sip on crystal light, Water, decaf tea etc inbetween. I am getting really tired of the liquid diet. i do not mind the taste or anything....its just boring. I plan to follow the directions and start on the soft stuff at the end of the week. YAY! i never thought I would rejoice over yogurt and applesauce....but oh well. I lost 12.5 pounds on the pre-surgery diet and 10 pounds since surgery so I am thankful for that anyway. Keep positive and stay in the fight. We basically started at the same time and I look forward to hearing your good results. Keith

7 days Post-Op and finally feeling good!
KDS5000 replied to DanaKat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi thanks for your post. Today marks day five since surgery. I feel real good with slight pain at port sight. I have not had the bad gas that everyone talks about. I spent one night at the hospital and was told by a nurse who had Lap Band herself to get some Gas X and you will be fine. I follwoed that advice and started using it as soon as I go home. I report that to date I have not experienced the horrible gas build up that I have been reading about. I also understand what you are saying about sitting up all day long. It does get very tiring to me as well. As far as nosy people....yeah know all about that and I can't stand it. If I want them to know anything, I mean anything about my personal life, I will tell them. I have slept well almost every night with the only major complaint being I get tired of sleeping on my back. I too am a side sleeper and have not yet graduated to sleeping on my side as of yet. My pain has been very managable. I still take at least half a dose of pain meds at night. Through the day I am well thus far. I read your bio and it said you have lost a nice amount of weight. Is that weight loss all post op, or does it include the weight lost during pre-op diet? I have lost 10 pounds since surgery. Just wondering...please I am not being nosy. I just want to drop weight. Have a good day and I wish you success in your journey! Keith -
Hi I just joined thisw forum and I hope that it will be a blessing to all of us. I was banded on Aug 14. So lets see this is the fourth day. I feel well with slight pain. Most of the pain comes from my left side, which I assume is the port sight, Still tender but I am able to function without any pain meds. I started taking Gas X day two which I think really helped. I am still on liquid diet to which I am getting a little bored with but am sticking to my guns on it. I have already lost 9 pounds since surgery. Also today was my first bowel movement no pain involved. I have to make myself sip and not gulp...hard habit to break. I occasionally have a tight chest and not for sure why. Usually after I drink my protien. I feel that tomorrow should be a better day as far as pain. Hopefully none! Any sugggesstions are tips for me? Thanks!
