Where are all the Canadians ?
anewme2015 replied to canadianchick's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Welcome "anewme2015". My wait was fairly long but it probably differs from one city to another. They also need to run tests and make sure that you are otherwise healthy. Found out I had sleep apnea so had to get a machine for that....my Iron was low so had to resolve that. Cyst in uterus, endoscopy, etc. etc. And we are now good to go. You can help it along by asking your GP to get started on blood work, etc., sleep clinic and so on. Good Luck, Ruth Thanks Ruth! I'm slotted in for a sleep study already and all of my blood work is in order. I'm going to start calling weekly to see if I can take people's cancelled appointments. Many people have said that can help speed up the process. I've heard Hamilton has fairly decent wait times, as Canada goes, with people waiting between 3-9 months- although it seems closer to 9 is typical. I don't have other health issues, as far as I know so hopefully that moves things along. I don't wait well. Haha. I'm trying to use the time to meet Bariatric "friends" and to research. I'm think bypass over sleeve but I'm not sure if that is a surgeon decision or patient. Anyway, thanks for the welcome! -
Where are all the Canadians ?

Hello! Ancaster Ontario here! Early in the process and very excited to see Canadians talking. This information is so helpful. I'm curious abt wait times. I'm getting done at Hamilton's St.Joe's if I'm approved. -
How did your appointment with the nutritionist go?
-
I'm waiting to hear abt my orientation appointment. Would it be an appointment that I can check for cancelations or is what you're talking about more for the appointments after orientation? And thks for the advice.
-
Did you mean 2013 or have you gone through the system that fast? I'm awaiting my orientation and I've been given the impression that the weight is 7-10 months?
-
Let us know how the nutrition apt goes. Hopefully you'll see the surgeon soon. Have you done the psych apt? I'm curious how long from referral it took for you to get an orientation apt. I'm eager to start something! Lol
-
That seems so long! I'm still waiting for my orientation appointment. I'm eager to get things going but also wanting to take the time to prepare myself. How has the process been for you?
-
Hello! I'm hoping for a gastric bypass. Early stages. I've had the referral and now I'm waiting for the orientation sessions. I have an apt for a sleep study but so far that's it. Where are you in the process?

You look incredible! Did you implement an exercise regime right away? You look so toned! -
You did and I replied. It should be in your private messages.

Goal at 15 Months Post-Op
anewme2015 replied to NewSetOfCurves's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
That's fantastic advice and it seems to be a common denominator among people who are long term success stories. I will be careful to follow what the dr says and find ways to bring exercise into my life. It's a daunting task to consider pre-op as even walking is too much at times. Did you start exercise before surgery? -
Yes OHIP stopped covering Lap-band. Hope you're doing well. Keep us posted on your success!

What an inspiration! As a pre-op I'm curious to know what you think made you so successful? And btw, you look amazing! -
Where did you have the sleeve done? How has your healing been? All good- I hope. Did ohip cover it and if so what was your wait time from the dr referral to the Bariatric centre to the surgery? Sorry to inundate you with questions- it's just rare that I find someone from Ontario!
-
You are such an inspiration! Incredible!

Ancaster, Ontario, Canada!
-
Just curious if you had surgery? I'm in Ancaster Ontario and I'm wondering abt wait times. There doesn't seem to be a lot of Canadians on this app.
-
I have not had surgery yet but it seems to me you've had amazing weight loss so far. Congrats! I don't know that this a stall- perhaps just appreciate that your body needs time to adapt and heal. You will continue to lose. Just look at the incredible steps you've already taken to ensure that you're successful.

This is it! Very exciting time for you. Good luck with your surgery and keep us pre-ops informed about how it goes if you want. We appreciate hearing your stories.

pre-op testing

Good luck! Keep us posted on how everything goes. -
I seem to be able to access some information easily (basic profile stuff, threads etc.) through Bariatric Pal but then when i click on More- my surgery story and to change settings (which I have yet to do successfully) it seems to open another app or something. I just found a box that shows notifications, messages etc but it doesn't seem connected to my bariatric pal homepage. I'm not very technical so this may be a silly question but are there two apps? Is there a way to have all my info accessible through the phone app? I've never used whatever is offered through the web. I seem to have an app within an app. Perhaps I'm missing an update or something? I have an iPhone 4s.

pre-op testing
anewme2015 replied to reboundlife2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've only had a referral to the Bariatric Centre so I've not yet met with a surgeon or anyone from his/her team, and my regular Dr already did major blood work and is sending me to a sleep study. Just an FYI. I hope everything goes well for you. Keep us updated. -
I just met with my physician and she has agreed to refer me to the Bariatric Centre (process in Ontario, Canada) so I'm officially on my gastric bypass way now. I was surprised how emotional I got in the appointment. I bawled and she handed me Kleenex after Kleenex. Anyway, I don't post often but I have been reading and following so many of you and I wanted you to know what a great source of information and inspiration so many of you are to me. Here's to discovering the true 'us' who exists beneath. Xo

Wow! I love when people post before and after pics. It's so motivating to everyone regardless of where in the WLS process they are currently. Thks for sharing!
