Where are all the Canadians ?
anewme2015 replied to canadianchick's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks! And Yes I ordered The protein shakes while at the hospital and then they mailed them to my house. -
Sorry I'm so late on replying. I haven't been on in a while. I'd be open to chatting in more detail. Send me a PM with your email and we can talk more.

Have a surgery date- October 19th! Very excited and looking forward with great optimism, although the 3 weeks of Optifast will be a challenge! Hope my fellow Canadians are experiencing success! -

I know the Canadian threads can be like yelling into a void but I'm so excited I have to yell! I have an appointment with my surgeon at Toronto Western on August 7th! It's finally happening! Has anyone else had their surgery with Dr. Penner? -
Any Canadians Out There?

Glad to hear it's going so well. The Dr's at St.Joe's are all supposed to be really amazing. Thanks for sharing and good luck on your journey!

Welcome Mike! Congrats! How are you healing? Out of curiosity what was your wait time from initial orientation to surgery?
-
No I don't do Facebook. That's not a long wait. They're now saying 7-8 months between orientation and the next appointment which is why I switched to a Toronto hospital. How's post-surgery? Feeling good?
-
That's great! Congratulations! Out of curiosity how long was it from orientation to surgery for you? I'm also in Hamilton (Ancaster). ????
-
All great things to do while waiting. People on here have recommended to me that I take copies of my tests to my first POST-Orientation appointment. Just thought I'd pass that to you as well in case it's helpful. And great idea about seeing a nutritionist! Because of my BMI being close to the cut-off I was told not to lose weight as it may interfere with qualifying for the surgery. But, I think getting nutritional advice is a smart thing to do. I may follow you on that! Anyway, what's 8 months after a lifetime of obese? If the people on here are any indication, all of this waiting will be so worth it. Good luck to you! Keep in touch.

LIMITED TIME OFFER: 100 Free Copies of The BIG Books on Bariatric Surgery Series (Valued at almost $100!)

I tried but the codes have all been used. The books went fast! -
Hello fellow Hamiltonian! Apparently it is considerably faster after that initial appointment. They are supposedly one of the busiest clinics. It's interesting how wait times vary. I transferred to Toronto Western to lessen the wait time because, even with starting over, their timeline from orientation to surgery is faster. I sometimes wonder if I should have just been patient. Driving to Toronto for appointments, dealing with the traffic, and then parking is more to deal with. That said, there's no looking back now! Lol Anyway nice to meet someone local. Keep us posted when you hear!

Since you've done so much already probably after your first appointment You can get things sped up. Remember to bring all your test results etc. After that it's really a calling game call call call to get the rest of your appointments sped up Thanks for the encouragement. I am calling every few days and trying to get something anything! booked. Some people who started at the same time as me have had their surgeries, which frustrates me. I'm not giving up though. I get the feeling they make this process so painful to weed out people who aren't serious. Lol I'M NOT GIVING UP! ???? -
So my transfer from Hamilton to Toronto Western has me starting back at the beginning. I'm so frustrated. Regrouping. Refocusing. I'm curious if those people who had success speeding up the process have any advice about calling. I don't seem to be able to get past the receptionists and promises of returned calls. Any words of wisdom?

In other news, I'm officially transferred to Toronto Western! Thanks for the advice and the push everyone. You have me the confidence to not accept those other ridiculous wait times and to advocate for myself and my health. You people rock. -

Quote:Following the program as per the instructions I've only lost 12 lbs. I hope it's because I've heard that if you start at a lower weight that you lose slower and not because I'm doing something wrong. Funny though if I'd lost 12 lbs on WW or some other diet in less than 4 weeks I'd be doing cartwheels. I have to keep reminding myself of that. It's funny how you expect so much more from the surgery. Like to wake up each day and expect to see the scale go down a pound or two each time. Maybe some do but not me apparently. As long as it keeps steadily going down I should not complain. Everyone's weight loss journey is different. By the way I loss 9 lbs before the surgery from my last nurse weigh-in right before I started Opti-fast. 12 lbs is AMAZING in one month. I don't think I've successfully lost that in a month on any diet (and I've done them all!). I think it's a trap to get into comparisons so focus on your truth- you're down 12 lbs of FAT that is NEVER coming back. And this surgery is helping you become (return to) the you that you truly are! 12 lbs is incredible. And it's only the beginning! ???????? -

Thanks so much for the reply and the advice. I'll call Hamilton to transfer then because being into the process already, hopefully Toronto Western can put me through sooner than 6 months! Hey, that'd be sooner than my next Hamilton appointment so I'll take it! And thanks for the suggestion about sending the documents myself. I will ask my doctor for copies of all my tests then. I didn't even realize sending them myself was an option. Great advice! I REALLY appreciate you taking the time to respond. I've been feeling so frustrated. -

I'm looking into transferring hospitals. Hamilton's wait times are getting ridiculous- over 8 months between appointments. I'm thinking of transferring to Toronto Western. Anyone get their surgeries there recently? If so, can u give me a timeline from orientation to your surgery? Thks. -

So why do certain foods not 'sit well'. Is it when food is of a higher fat content or had some natural (artificial sugars) or is it just trial and error?
