Well was hoping that the demand is there and she might be good to do it on the 14th. There are two other docs in the practice. NYU Medical Center here in NYC. So that is probably why such a limited schedule. I am slated for 7:00am though, have to be at the hospital at 5:00am.

Holly, nice to be joined by you. Even my Dr. said the same as yours. In good health, besides being fat, and being able to go on diets, but gain it back, I would be an excellent candidate for the Lap Band. She even called my parents, cause my Mom was hesitant about me having the surgery and always talked about the bad sides. My coworkers are on board, along with my family, but my best friend, who happens to be a guy isn't. He is a big man himself, 6'4" and close to 375. He dates the skinny, small girls. I keep telling him he is afraid to see me lose the weight, cause then, it may be harder on his girlfriends when his best friend is thin. I think they accept me because they know he isn't attracted to people my size. So now, I bust his chops on this, but it does hurt me that he isn't supporting it now. Says he won't visit me after the surgery, or come to the hospital. He and I have been close for over 20 years.

My date is correct, thanks for posting the schedule for us. I am trying to move it up though. My parents are coming up from Florida and want to head back before the end of January. They don't like the cold. But, my surgeon only does her surgeries on Monday and is on vacation the first two weeks. With that being said, I was really good the past few days, but was working in my house today, painting, putting down a pergo floor in the kitchen, etc, I ate more than I normally have been, but still not more than before I started on the road to the band.:whoo:

I can understand that, if the country's health care system is gov't based. It doesn't mean I have to like it. They are not turning out their own citizens, but denying immigration. I am a Benefits Adminstrator for my company and see our premiums jump 10% or more with every renewal, because we are forced, through our premiums to subsidize un-insured people (both citizens and non-citizens) who either can't or won't pay their medical expenses. If the couple agree to not use the gov't medical system and pay for the expenses themselves, New Zealand should let them in.

I feel like such a fool! Warning this post contains a "break-up" email*
Chrisann replied to cookielover's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree with you sending the email. I cannot believe that this person, who was your friend for 25 years could just turn like that. Its got to be jealously, not only for your weight loss, but for the happiness in your life of your family too. I really think some people are friends with a fat person because they are safe; most don't do risky things or get into trouble, guys don't look at them first, and you can be used to break the ice in situations. Its sucks that it comes down to that, but in the bottom of your heart, could you continue to be friends with someone now that the true colors are showing? -
another ignore question ...
Chrisann replied to losingjusme's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
Geez, I hope its not the decrease in the amount of food you can eat that is making you bitchier than normal. Because if that is a side effect, I am in trouble. I am normally a bitch. -
Has your sex life changed since getting the band?
Chrisann replied to 000000000's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am losing some weight with my pre-op plan, and I have seen a definite increase in the desire/want. Doing things TO my BF more than wanting it myself. Is that normal when losing weight? I am driving him crazy. -
I can't stand Julie. All her whining. She won a car, got to go home, and can't lose weight. I really can't stand her. I love the show, but when they focus on her, I change the channel.

Glad you are getting over him, even slowly. I have come to the conclusion that I would rather be single than hook up with a jerk, fat or skinny. Sexual compatibility? That is a cop out. If you guys were having sex, regardless of the work either one of you put in it, its not sexual compatibility that broke you up. It was him just being a jerk like the other ladies here have said.

Thanks, for the info on the book. You know with everyone's opinions here, both pro and con for the band, its nice to know there is a book out there that can help too.

Recovery Time//Time Off From Work
Chrisann replied to parrot0927's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Doctor told me to take a week too. My office is ok with it. I have vacation the first week of March, a trip I already planned before the surgery. So I am taking January 22-28 off and then February 29-March 9. I was going to try to get in earlier because of the planned vacation, but they are fine with taking the full week and will equip me with a laptop to work from home. -
My doctor is recommending slim fast, broth and 2 cups of steamed, raw or grilled veggies a day. Have to do two weeks prior and 2 weeks after. So 4 weeks total on liquids. Trying to do one meal of liquid now to get used to it.

I started with my Nutritional assessment at 325, not sure now, cause I don't get on the scales. That was my all time high, ever! I know I have been losing weight though, my clothes ae looser. My scheduled surgery date is January 21. I got to this point because I started getting stupid injuries. I pulled a nerve in my neck, and tore a ligament in my foot. I have a cast on now. I am convinced this is because of my weight. I have no co-morbidities, I have low Blood pressure, low cholestrol, good heart rate, and test well within range of everything else. I am just fat. I can say that 10 years ago, I would have done this to meet a man. Now, I am comfortable in my skin and independent in the life I have created for myself. I turned 40 a few months ago, and this was my gift to myself. To spend the next 40 years not morbidly obese. I don't even have a weight loss goal, I have a size goal, I want to be a size 10. Its weird too. My doctor had been bugging me to do this for years and I paid him no mind because I was "healthy", but with these injuries, I just woke up and decided to do it.

Surgery bright and early on January 21. Have to start my liquid diet to "defat the liver" on January 7. Been seriously into this since June. Only passively prior to that.

AP Lap Band - The newer 'improved' band. (w/ pics)
Chrisann replied to dustout's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I like the facts surrounding this band, I am going to see if thats the one I will be getting. -
I have tried over 20 years to lose weight one way or the other, and spent a lot of money, on both the diet plans themselves, the food, and the clothes. I have a range of sizes in my closet, and I could probably open a thrift store myself with the variety. My doctor mentioned the lap band to me over a year ago. In May, I pinched a nerve in my neck from pulling the start cord on the lawn mower too much. Then I hurt my leg, then I tore a ligament in my foot. That was the final straw. If all these injuries could happen to me in a two month period, I better do something about my weight once and for all. So, I decided to get off my butt and commit to the lap band surgery route. My surgery is scheduled for January 21, 2008 and I know now that no matter what happens, I am very well prepared, mentally now, for this.

I have to agree with some of you girls. I have excitment for the surgery and preparing myself to consume much less food, but my hairIts long, to my mid back, thick and shiny light brown. I want to be known for my hair and my weight loss. It has taken 4 years of trims to get it like this. Can I do something now, before the surgery to prepare for this?
-
January 21 for me. I am weaning off my trigger foods and starting my day three times a week with a slim fast. I figured I might just start now so I will be used to going all liquid two weeks before the surgery. I am also figuring out which flavors I am going to stock up on. I know I can't stand the strawberry slim fast.
-
I have been trying to be good, even though my surgery is in January. Well forget that today!:faint: I tore a ligament in my foot, crossing the f'ing street, I walked a little faster because the light was changing. Mind you, I walk lots all of the time now. Anyway, got this soft cast on my foot, with a boot, and can barely walk now. So, then proceeded to eat the lunch I brought to work, a bag of pretzels my co-worker gave me, the granola bars in my desk, and the left over Halloween candy in the kitchen area when I went to get coffee. Got home, and parked on the couch and finished the ice cream that has been sitting in the freezer for a month. I am not even sorry, but pissed off at myself. I never thought I was a stress eater either and I can't remember eating this much stuff at work. So, does this type of a crash happen to anyone with the band in? My sister thinks it might be because I took a few different drugs today.

Will know tomorrow if UHC denies...
Chrisann replied to Margie122's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Speak to your Benefits Administrator at work. I am the one at my company and go right to the Insurance Company's rep. We have Oxford, and the rep calls me back everytime if I leave a message and explains things. Don't let your company BA tell you they can't do it, because they can with you right there. -
Well, good luck tomorrow. Hopefully that will be the end of the discomfort. And congrats on the weight loss is only one month. My surgeon said that her ports are high, generally under your right breast, just below where your underwire would be. I wasn't so sure I would like that position, but with you guys having the complications down near the waist, I just don't know now.
-
I guess her point might be that sometimes people who are marginally heavy want the surgery, those with a BMI of 30-35 with no co-morbidity. I don't understand why a 5'5" person who is 180 wants the surgery with a BMI of 29. I was at the doctors office and here was this person whining about it when the doctor I guess told her he didn't think she was a candidate at this time for it. I didn't hear the conversation between them, but that was gist I got when she was complaining to someone on her cell phone.

A hurtful comment from a close friend
Chrisann replied to Sue's Eye's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My best friend said that I would look horribly sick losing a lot of weight and would look old. Nice Huh? Looking at the photos of all of you who have lost lots of weight, you all look younger and healthy. So, you are my inspiration. -
I say that too, since I was a kid. "I may be fat, but you will always be ugly".

Seriously Thinking About Backing Out
Chrisann replied to MollyBrown's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree with you Lil Miss, I am a few months from surgery and already trying different things; like weaning off the trigger foods, and paying attention to the quantity of food I am putting in. I am trying different liquid drinks too, just so when the time comes I am not snowballed. I have to work everyday through the liquid diet faze, so I can't afford to be squemish and sick while going through it. Preparation is the key to everything, and more so this surgery.
