Days 5-7 were rough for me, but I was allowed to have broth, and veggies, in addition to the Protein shakes, ice pops and Jello. That broke things up. I cannot say enough about the high protein, 45g, 0g fat, 300 calorie smoothies I had from local smoothie place here. I am surey they are all over the place, Smoothie King. My nutritionist allowed me one a day. It held my hunger for almost 6 hours. I would contact the nutritionist, sometimes the doctors don't get too involved in diet.

I was banded on the 4th - still hungry!
Chrisann replied to sleclerc's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was liquids the two weeks before surgery, now on the two weeks after, with mushy foods two weeks after that. So, technically not on solid foods until February. -
Jim, Everyday is getting better. I think its the muscles from the heaving and the hernia repair that are getting to me pain wise. I am still not hungry, and can't get down Protein drinks, I am primarily still on broth, with tea, some carnation instant Breakfast and ice pops. I emailed the nutritionist today to maybe add some creamy Soups to get me some more nutrition. I am at work, and taking only a half of the vicodin pill in the afternoon when I feel the bruises on my belly the most. But it is so uplifting to see all the rest of you guys healing so well and fast.

Keep the faith everyone because we all have different reactions but all want the same things. To get banded and get a control on our lives. My experiences are probably more extreme than the main body of people here, and its uplifting to read so many positives you are all having with the banding experience.

Went back to work today, and due to complications, was on Clear Liquids until Saturday. But even now, I can't get the Protein shakes down. So at work, had tea, a carnation instant Breakfast and broth. Tonite, had 8oz mushroom consomme and lemon sugar free ice. Its a lot slower getting back than I thought I would be. I am still in some pain. Have stitches right under my breasts, and actually took off the bra before I left work because the bra was pushing on it.

Glad you are ok. I needed that overnight in the hospital.

Had my surgery on Wed. and feeling better!
Chrisann replied to Megmarie21's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Because of the dry heaving, the hernia repair, the port being attached to a muscle, and the fact that another muscle was nicked is the reason I am still in pain. Its going to take me longer because of the muscle damage. Other than that, I don't feel the other incisions, or even the fact a band is in me, except that I am feeling very full after drinking 8oz of liquid. -
I love your wedding dress.

I still can't get down Protein drinks but practically melted a Ritz cracker in my tasty, salty chicken boullion today. I am at work, so sucking down tea and boullion. Had a hot chocolate, but still can't stomach anything heavier. Oh, and no explosion or pluggage today.:speechles

Me too, I am fat all over. I have huge legs according to my mom. I am 5'8" and my calves and thighs are solid. I am hoping that when I start losing its all over evenly.

Had my surgery on Wed. and feeling better!
Chrisann replied to Megmarie21's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well I am between 5-7 now but only when I turn to either side in bed, or walk up and down the subway steps. I had some muscle strain from the dry heaving and the hernia repair. I am having a rough time getting liquids down, and my stomach doesn't even want me to look at a Protein shake these days. I had my surgery at NYU Medical Center with Dr. Ren in NYC. -
Its the bloat, the doctor explained that to me. Also, your belly swells a bit, mine is still swollen 6 days out, and I am at the same weight as I was on the day of the surgery. Besides, in the first month, the band is wide open, and you ideally should lose, but quite a few people do gain. I have seen that on various posts here. I have decided to not weigh myself at home. I am just going to wait until I get to the doctors visits. I don't think I need to add the extra stress right now.

Well actually had Milk of Magnesia today, the pharmacist said it wouldn't react with my medicine. Also had about 10oz Soup, 8oz Water, and two ice pops. Guess what, two hours later, bam the explosion. Had to go into the shower after that, but the pain was gone. LOL

Abdomen/Port site pain?
Chrisann replied to CandiOPanda's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everytime I turn over in bed, I feel like the fat goes first and then the muscle or port whatever that incision is on my right side goes a second later and hurts alot. I am 6 days post op, and that is the only time I am feeling the pain. Otherwise, the other incisions are feeling fine. -
I am out 6 days and staying on the liquid diet that the doctor has suggested. I never want to go back into the hospital, so I would rather stick to it and be a little miserable. There is tomato soup on my list and had that last night. But I can't get down any Protein drinks other than the Carnation Instant Breakfast. I know I am not getting enough liquids down, but I am not feeling the hunger nor feeling thirsty. Its a weird feeling not to want to eat, but I have no desire.

Good luck everyone on January 7th!!!!

List for the overnight hospital stay
Chrisann replied to citygirl4616's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
NYU Medical center was not a wireless place, so I never bothered to bring the laptop. -
I think I would wish for the explosive diarrehea at this point, as I am 6 days out and constipated. I know I am not taking in enough liquids, but I just can't get the fluids down.

having trouble getting protien drinks down
Chrisann replied to healthyagain's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hang in there, it gets tough around days 5-7 but after that your body adjusts and its gets easier. Really it does. If you can get a smoothie, here in NY you can get one with 300 calories, 0 fat, 40 carbs and 45g Protein. That seriously keeps you feeling full for up to 5 hours. Mix in a slim fast or two a day to break things up. Also have some broth if your doctor allows it. -
I have to be on liquids for two weeks after the surgery. Its more restrictive than the pre op plan. I can't get down a protein shake at all, in fact not much fluid at all, and I couldn't imagine any cottage cheese. I give you lots of credit that you are getting that down.

List for the overnight hospital stay

We had to keep on the hospital gown, and couldn't take any other meds except what I was getting intravenously. I used the lip balm, because you come out of surgery with your lips so, so dry. I put on my own underwear after the procedure and brought in a really big comfy sweatsuit to leave in. I was quite swollen in the belly area. Have someone bring a pillow for the ride in the car home too. Its good to put over your belly area if you are feeling the gas, you can push on it and not hurt yourself. -
NY Knockouts-- Pre-op Poll
Chrisann replied to CallMeJim's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
By the time you get to the last day, you are so looking forward to the surgery. I was on all liquids, with veggies thrown in. I lost 24 pounds on the pre op phase. It was unbelievable as that was one of the last things they did before the surgery. I was so in awe that I lost that much, that before I knew it, I was in the operating room, I even forgot to take my contacts out before I got in there. I had to take them out right there on the table. But you feel like its such an accomplishment and its a fantastic way to start off, knowing that the first month with the band is a challenge. -
I am home. A bit exhausted but home. I lost 24 pounds on the liquid pre surgical diet, so everyone, stick to it!!!!! I had a small hietal hernia that they had to fix, but I came through the surgery in 35 minutes. Had a bad reaction to the anesthia (sp?) and was dry retching most of yesterday, but at about 2 am, suddenly felt better and walked around the ward. I am sore but moving around. Heading to my parents so I may not be on later, but people, hang in there its worth it.

Out the same day? I give you lots of credit. Glad you are feeling ok, and that the hubby is taking care of you.:bounce:
