I would consult with an attorney because they didn't take care of you the way you deserved and you went through unnecessary pain and surgery. Feel better.

Eating alot after surgery
Chrisann replied to sci gal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started mushies, I am two weeks out of surgery, and want to eat more, but can't, I am lucky to get 8 to 10oz of soup down. I went back on my own rule and got on a scale today, and since I have been on basically all liquids, I am not down a pound yet. I gave the scale to my sister, and will now wait until my doctor visit to get weighed again. -
Hang in there and do it. Its so worth it. I won't lie, you will go through some bad days where you might want eat your couch, my bad days were 5-7. But on the day of the surgery, I found out I lost 24 pounds in the pre-opt liquid phase. Mix up the day if you can. See if you can find high Protein low fat smoothies, my nutritionist let me have one a day and that made all the difference.

Poll: How long before you went back to work
Chrisann replied to marieze's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I went back in one week, but going to work today, realized that I should have taken the second week. I was banded two weeks ago today. I have a really bad head cold that I know I got from the office, and that is making me miserable. -
Do you think there is discrimination against obese people?
Chrisann replied to milton5a's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well I have to say that I am offended by the gaudy, couch looking materials on clothes that are for sale in the stores for overweight women. But I can honestly say that I have never felt discrimination. Maybe I have led a charmed life. Maybe because I have self confidence, and never let my size get in my way. I feel sorry that so many of you had to experience that. -
I am just starting my mushies. I hear the gurgling after I eat and just before I have to use the bathroom, so its a good precursor to head over there.

Ask your benefits Administrator to contact their direct rep at BC/BS. I knew about my approval from my rep before the doctors office even told me. Don't let the BA bullshit you either. They can call the Employer Helpline and get an answer alot faster than you calling customer service. They may want you to fill out a HIPPA form, which is used to give permission to discuss someone elses medical issues, but at this point, who cares if anyone finds out you are fat.

I am two weeks out of surgery and realize I should have taken last week off from work. While I am feeling better surgery wise, I have a damn cold that I know I got from coming to work last week.

I am scheduled for the doctors on January 30th too. I am not feeling hungry. Started mushy foods today and couldn't tolerate grapefruit and bananas earlier, but was able to get 3oz of tilapia in tomato sauce down for lunch. That is one flaky fish that was delicious.

My mom died of Colon cancer, at the age of 42 and we have had to have colonoscopies every two years since I was 28. When the weight loss surgery became a reality to me, once I did the research, I decided, like others here, that to have my insides rearranged, and to pretty much tie off my large intestine, I would rather be fat. if that was the only option open to me. With the colon cancer history, to not have the large intestine in use, I felt that would open me up for cancer concerns. I made the choice for the band after the research showed that the complications were less and the success rate was high and it was going to be non invasive. If your doc is sticking to this, see if you can see another doctor.

I answered no because if you have confidence in yourself, and the job you can do, you will be hired. -
My doctors office told me to not put anything on them if the area is inflamed, even if the stitched areas are fine. In fact they said "no topical creams", so that is why I went for the Benedryl.
-
Congratulations Hilary!!!

I took Benedryl like it was suggested on one of my other posts, and it worked. I got the Benedryl strips for Children in Vanilla Mint. Now the areas around the incisions are still red/pink but thankfully no more itching.

I am only a few weeks banded and not getting on the scale. I know for the first month you are in the healing phase, so the weight doesn't matter. My nephew(he's 7) saw me the day before the surgery and the day I came home, and he said this "Aunt Christine you don't look skinny. I said why would you think I would come home skinny? He said, I thought they were going to cut the fat off you." I was hysterical laughing, and it hurt my incisions. But that put it into perspective. What I did is not a short term fix, its a long term process. So don't weigh yourself everyday, and don't sweat over the weight. You know if you follow a plan, the pounds will come off. So stay positive.

More Complications, I can't get any good news to you guys
Chrisann replied to Chrisann's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks again all, I did a shot of benedryl last night, kids version, cherry(yuck) but it did stop the itching. Just bought Benedryl strips in vanilla Mint for tonite. Everyday something gets better. I start mushy foods tomorrow.!!! -
Missing your boxing smiley??? Got one for you to use!!!
Chrisann replied to adorkbl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks so much. I was so happy to find it in the beginning and all of us started using it. I wonder why they got rid of it. -
Hey, glad you got out of the house today!! My first day out for a walk after the surgery was last Saturday. IT took me from Monday to then to go out for that stroll. I had broth and then some clam juice last night. MY parents had zuppa de clams, so I got some of the zuppa, (soup). IN any event, the shoulder pain started back up with a vengence, I guess I had too much liquid at one time. I used the heating pad last night and it worked very well.

I was craving salt, so sucked the salt off a pretzel and then spit it out.

If I would have been concerned about the nausea I would have spoke up like you too and not gone through hell. IF you even have a iota of an idea that you might get nauseous, tell them. It hurts like hell to dry heave, and the days after are torture. Good luck ladies.

Incisions are still red and itchy, but almost no pain. So things are getting better. I am the BA here and I deal with 300 employees who get medical benefits. I can't believe that you don't have a person in your company, no matter how large it is, to discuss this. I would also report the psych doctor to your insurance company as being non responsive. There has to also be someone you can complain to in your state, like to the Board of Health or whatever agency sanctions doctors. It is unbelieveably rude that this doctor is ignoring you.

My nutritionist said to not have any smoothies for at least 3 weeks after the banding, so I haven't had one since December 30th. But it was my life saver during the preopt liquid, because it held my hunger for nearly 6 hours!! I plan on getting back into them when I am back to eating in February, because to get that kind of full feeling when my stomach was big, will do me wonders a few times a week with the band now in place.

Did anyone have pain 3 days post Op?
Chrisann replied to Texan1440's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had pain at the level of about 5 until about 8 days after my band went in. Its substantially down now, around a 0-1, and its been 11 days. -
My surgery was done "in network" and it only cost me the psych exam and the nutritionist cost. Oh and the TV in my room for the hospital overnight. I have Oxford Liberty PPO. I would pay the $250 if that is what the bill says. Make sure you keep all your documents in one place in the event some other bills show up.
