Carry a measuring cup in my purse? ADVICE needed...
Chrisann replied to MamaJava's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I put a measuring cup at work, along with personal blender. I find here I can stay on plan that way. On the two occasions I have eaten out, I have stuck to the soup route, as you can have more than a few ounces. Then when back at the office, if I was still hungry, had some cottage cheese that I keep in the fridge. Its not exact, but keeps me from being too overly concerned while eating out and making my companions more self conscious to what they were eating and I wasn't. -
Have you hit a plateau but are loosing inches?
Chrisann replied to SB0233's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Its too early to worry about this guys. The time after banding is for healing, and the doctors even know that people can gain some weight, let alone not lose it in the 4-6 weeks after surgery. Stay away from the scale, and call your doctor for some feedback. Believe me, I have been back to the doctors 3 times since surgery for other reasons and was told each time not to worry about weight loss until I start getting my fills. -
ST. Louis Gal, Don't you have to be scheduled within a certain number of days after your approval? Check your letter because you were approved on January 9th. It would suck if you were approved and not done in time.

I am getting my first fill on Wednesday afternoon. My question is this, can I eat in the morning before a fill, or will that make it worse?

My summer place is 20 miles north of Port Jervis, so its great to know that there is a doctor in the area that has experience with the band God forbid I have any problems this summer.

I got the cast off my foot a week before the lap band surgery. The time goes fast, and you are not supposed to be doing much more than walking for 6 weeks after the surgery. So use the time to relax, this time now is for healing and you can exercise all you want in a few weeks.

Don't worry about that at all. Put your mind at ease. The doctors do everything to make you comfortable, and they do everything to make sure that blood clots don't happen. The surgery is over before you know it.

We have Fairway in NYC too, and they also have Organic products. I would think that anywhere in the country where they advertise organic food, produce, meats and fish are worth investigating.

I like Whole Foods for some things too. I like their fish, its always fresh, even though it costs a little more. You have to know your prices because some things are really expensive.

Chrisann replied to ds0911's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to get headaches when I wasn't getting enough protein. Are you tracking the number of grams of protein you are getting daily? -

:lol:Skinny guy in our office sat on the bowl in the Mens room and broke it. I am guessing it was already going in that direction and he was the lucky guy to do it. -
Banded 1/9/08, first adjustment not until March!!!
Chrisann replied to AlisaH's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am starting to get the hungry feeling all the time now, in fact feel it now, but I am at work. Hopefully by the time I get home it will pass. I am getting my first fill on Wednesday, and it can't come too soon for me. I haven't gained yet, but want to desperately eat sometimes. My doctor does the fill from 4-5 weeks after surgery. Do you have a long post opt plan to follow that you are waiting 8 weeks? -
These are things suggested by my nutritionist for the mushy stage: Baby food pureed fruits and veggies Low fat creamed spinach Applesauce Pureed Squash Cream of Wheat, Farina, runny oatmeal Mashed Potatoes Fish, flakey, fork mashed "wet" Tuna fish or egg salad fork mashed or blended well with low fat Mayo Non fat refried Beans Silken tofu Blended chicken or meatballs Low fat milk low fat yogurt Ricotta cheese, cottage cheese sugar free pudding Blended Soups I was craving Pasta, so made egg pastina, its small and mushy too. If I were you, I would check with your doctor/nutritionist because as you can tell by reading posts, every doctor has their own interpretation of the post opt meals and you don't want to do something he/she may not recommend, even though this is what my doctor recommended.

Go to Human Resources if you have that department. And deal with them when it comes to time off, and medical issues. Its a bit formal but they can put in your vacation requests too. -
More Complications, I can't get any good news to you guys
Chrisann replied to Chrisann's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks so much:biggrin: But, geez how many more freaky things are going to happen? Thank God, all of this hasn't been serious. I would still go through it again, because I know this is going to work for me. -

10 days out of surgery. Ok, so now, 4 out of 5 of the steri strips have fallen off. Good News right? Well on 3 of 4 now exposed wounds, one being the nearly 1 inch long, probably the port, I have developed large red welts all around the stitched areas. And boy are they itchy. Dr. Ren is on vacation, and I spoke to the nurse in the office, who said as long as they aren't leaking fluids or puss, its ok, Oh and don't wipe the area with alcohol, or put on first aid cream. Ok, so then how does one not want to scratch and rip the skin off their belly? Cause this is killing me.:angry:mad: -
Any lapbanders who didn't have obesity related health problems?
Chrisann replied to marnie723's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had no co-morbidities. My Blood Pressure was low, Cholestrol under 200, heart rate in the good range and everything else in the normal range. Weird. I always said that since I grew up fat, my body adjusted to being fat over time. My starting BMI was 49. I knew that sooner or later, I would be getting sick. So wanted to take this step now when I knew I could have a somewhat quicker recovery than if I waited until I got sick. -
I am using the starting weight from the pre-surgical liquid phase. So sorry if it looked like that in 3 weeks. Its really that from December 17th. Glad to hear you are back Amy!! My sister wanted to know what hospital you were in.

Ok, good news, its my Lymphatic System draining the wounds. Its not a common occurance to see it. For most people it happens invisibly. I am relieved. I just have to watch the color of it. -
Hubby lost job & insurance... :( :(

COBRA would still be cheaper than you thinking to finance the surgery yourself. I always believe in taking COBRA, because God forbid you need medical attention and don't take it. Hopefully it won't be too high for you. Good luck. -

Well, its back to the hospital to see my surgeon tomorrow. Seems I might have an infection or fluid buildup. Look at the crummy rash I have now. It doesn't hurt, itch, its not hot just there. Has nothing to do with the latex allergy either. Go figure. -
Look at all the people that are in our group this month. To think it was only Red Tulips, Jim, and me in the beginning!!!!:rolleyes2: Welcome everybody. Lets make this big journey together with periodic updates, but this is so great there are so many of us here!!

It took me just over 2 weeks to start approaching the 64oz of liquids, I am still not there yet. I suppose once the weather is warmer here in NYC, I will be drinking 64oz and more.:rolleyes2:

NYU does fills for people banded elsewhere. Dr. Ren, Dr. Fielding and Dr. Kurian are in that practice. Easy to get to from Brooklyn. I was banded there. Visit their website: NYU Thin For Life

I think the morning might be better for you. I don't know if I would like waiting around until the afternoon to be banded.
