    Workplace drama...REALLY?!

I can totally relate to what you've experienced at work. I teach in a high school and the teachers/staff have made me feel as though I were reliving my days as a student. After speaking with a trusted confidant, I was able to conclude that jealousy could be the biggest part of their behavior. It's funny how no one was ever bold enough to tell me (to my face) how large I was preop but so many of them think it's okay to now tell me that I should stop losing. You're right, it's not about anyone but you. Tell yourself that often and believe it.

    Coffee?

It's weird, I never was a coffee drinker but at 6 months post op that all changed. Now I drink it often but decaf is my choice. I may have half decaf/half caf once or twice a week sometimes though. My doctor never restricted it but I don't think I had even one cup until several months afterward.

    Longest Weight Loss Plateau

I am approximately 9 months post op and I'm now stalling more often than losing. I don't get too down about it because I've lost 100+ pounds already and when I do lose it's about 5 pounds all at once. For me, it's hard to know whether to increase Protein intake, calorie intake or exercise but usually I combine all three if my stall seems to go on for more than a few weeks at a time and finally...results. Hang in there.

    Who uses a fitbit?

I love my Fitbit Charge. It is an absolute must that I reach my goal of 15,000 steps a day and the device really helps motivate me to do that. I used to be satisfied with getting close to my goal but as I shed the weight, I step up my game. I only remove it to shower so it has definitely become a part of me so to speak.
  5. Thanks to you all. I now have hope that I'm not doomed to wls failure!

    Like clock work....

I know we're all different but to give you all some hope I'll share my "stall" experience. I didn't lose a pound for almost the whole month of January but once the stall ended, I dropped 8 pounds in a week. Weighing myself daily is not going to work for me anymore. It drives me absolutely nuts. I'll just have to hold out until my Sunday weigh-ins.

    Free Quest Bars

I've tried every one of them but the only one I actually like is the Cookies & Cream. Yes, it is a texture thing but for some reason, the texture of that one seems a bit different. It felt more like I was eating a cereal bar than taffy and that, I can tolerate.

    Workout Music-Whats Your Song?

I've recently been listening to Meghan Trainor while I'm on the treadmill. Her whole album is so upbeat & gives me the motivation to up my speed at intervals and my incline. Love it/love her!!

    Is it just me

Take it from me, sometimes it's good to be a pest. If I hadn't called my surgeon's office to inquire about whether they'd submitted my completed paperwork I'd probably still be waiting to have my surgery. Someone dropped the ball and my paperwork was overlooked on someone's desk for nearly three weeks. I had a gut feeling that something wasn't quite right so I called. Be persistent if that's what it takes to put your mind at ease.

    Activity tracker

I really fell in love with my Fitbit Charge after I linked it to Myfitnesspal. I've owned my treadmill for about 6 years and I've gotten more use out of it in the past month than ever before. Fitbit keeps me motivated. Even when I don't want to exercise, I have to get in my daily step goal or I just can't rest!

TV Shows - What are you watching ?

I'll be tuning in to my favorite show of all in less than an hour...Law & Order SVU. Yes, I am a serial watcher; don't judge me, lol! Must-see TV for me also includes (in no particular order) American Horror Story, Bad Judge, The Big Bang Theory, Shark Tank, The Middle, How to Get Away With Murder, Mike & Molly, Criminal Minds and mostly every show on Investigation Discovery....again, don't judge!!

    how long did you wait?

My insurance also required the 6 month medically supervised diet which really ended up being 7 months. I attended the WLS seminar & my first PCP visit in December 2013. I was finished with my supervised diet by June (paperwork wasn't sent until July due to an oversight at my surgeon's office). I learned of my approval in mid-August & surgery was scheduled for September 22. I changed my surgery date to November 24, 2014 because it was more convenient. I figured I'd waited so long at that point that 2 months longer wouldn't kill me . So I waited almost a year from the start of my process to the finish line but it was so well worth it because I was more than prepared for all of the changes that I'd be making. I did have sleep apnea and high blood pressure so I'm sure those issues impacted my quick approval. Good luck to you.
  13. I am so glad I found this topic. Of course it wasn't too hard since I, too, had my surgery on 11-24 . I've been feeling a little discouraged lately because of my stall. I lost 30 pounds within the first 3 1/2 weeks post-op. I'm now almost 8 weeks out and I've lost nothing since that loss (fortunately no gains either). What I've read here gives me hope that my RNY wasn't in vain. Thanks to you all!!
  14. For me, RNY was the tried and true victor of the three. My doctor never offered a suggestion on which wls I should consider but I had no problem making the decision because I've always gone with what has been proven successful over what I consider to be fads. I wanted to get it right the first time because I never want to undergo another surgery for weight loss. I do, however, have a love/hate relationship with "dumping syndrome". I hate it for the discomfort that it causes but I love that it doesn't allow me to keep down those foods that I shouldn't eat. I don't have any regrets at all.

    Protein bars!

A few weeks ago I was at a store purchasing more Vitamins and decided to pick up some Protein bars to try. I grabbed every flavor of Quest bars that I found. After trying each of them I was beginning to think I'd wasted my money until I got to the Cookies & Cream flavor...DELISH! It was the only one of the bunch that didn't make me gag and it's now my favorite way to get in some extra protein (20 g per bar) when eating a meal isn't feasible. You're gonna have to try a lot of different things to know what you like best. Some will be hits and some will be misses but you'll be glad you at least tried a lot of things. Variety is the spice of life after all !
  16. @@SuzeMuze I 'm so glad I came across your response. I really needed to read it today. I, too, have been a little down in the dumps about my weight loss progression so far. I am a little over 6 weeks post op and have lost about 30 pounds since surgery. Reading the posts of others who had surgery around the same time, who've lost more, can make you think that you're doing something wrong. I'm slowly learning to accept my journey as my very own. Thanks for the advice!!
  17. Like @ mentioned, my stomach rarely if ever growls due to hunger. It usually growls sometimes after I eat or drink. I love that though because prior to surgery I would eat every time my stomach growled and that was quite often.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

My closet is full of clothes that I've collected over the past 10-12 years (don't judge ) ranging in size from 12-26. This morning I decided to try on some black dress pants that I've always loved and was amazed that they actually fit again. As a matter of fact, there was a lot of bagginess in the thigh area. Are you kidding me...they're a size 16!!! The pounds aren't coming off as quickly as I imagined but I'm still so grateful for victories like this one!

    Constipation Club

I'm approximately 6 week post op and constipation issues are less of an issue than before. During the first 4 weeks it got so bad that I ran to the store at 2:30 in the morning and finally resorted to purchasing an enema and some prune juice. I zapped the prune juice in the microwave for 45 secs and sipped it before it cooled too much. I'm not sure if one of these things worked or both but between the two of them I finally found relief. After speaking with my nurse about the constipation I took her advice and began a daily regimen of fiber tablets. I think that they've helped tremendously and I can only assume that once you move past soft foods, your problems with constipation will decrease; that's really when mine did.

    Your Thanksgiving Dinner Game Plan

I had RNY on Monday so Thanksgiving this year was very different for me. My mother has been here since the weekend and she started cooking last night. I really enjoyed smelling the turkey roasting but had no desire to eat any of the food I've always enjoyed. I ate some mashed pinto beans with low-fat cheese while everyone else enjoyed their turkey dinner and unbelievably, I was completely satisfied. This just may be a prelude to something wonderful!

    Today is the day!

I am 3 days post op @@Jmcdaniel and I'm telling you that each day is different from the previous one in terms of pain. I feel great today compared to the day of surgery. I was out of surgery around 10 AM and took my first walk by 8 PM. Was it difficult? You bet it was but it really helped with the gas and ultimately made me feel much better overall. Good luck to you. I truly believe that we'll reap the benefits of our struggles really soon. Hang in there !

    Period during surgery, please help!

I'm so glad to have found this information because my surgery is about a week away and according to my calendar my period will begin the day before. I was worried because I won't be able to speak with my surgeon about my concerns until mid week. This is a weight off of my shoulders.
