Do you eat fruits? I would be worried about not getting enough Fiber in your diet. You might want to look into Fiber drinks, this might be the way to go until you can aquire a taste for the real thing. Check out your local GNC or Health food Store and see what they say about a fiber supplement. Make sure your taking your daily Vitamins Good luck. BTW, I never liked veggies until I was in my 20's. I started eating them mixed in w/my food so I couldn't taste them. They had to have sauce or butter on them or forgedaboudit lol, now I LOVE them, plain even :biggrin1:

Hi Jude, Welcome and congratulations on getting a band date !! You might want to tell folks where you live (what state) so they can help you with a fill doctor. I'm sure they vary from state to state. Anyway.... Eileen

Sorry Beth, I did not take anything. Actually I've never heard of Ativan. What does your doctor say about it ?

I was the same way... I wasn't scared of the eating, just the surgery part. So far, so good with my band, I'm happy I had the procedure. I hurt when I woke up after surgery (the gas), but they kept pumping me with pain meds. By the 3rd day I wasn't taking pain meds anymore........ was it worth it... so far... YES!!! You'll be okay!!

Your most embarrassing fat moment (sad, funny, pathetic, turning points)
NJChick replied to chameleon's topic in The Lounge
Wow, what heart breaking stories When I was about 7 we moved to a new town. I was so extremely shy and withdrawn that it was hard for me to make friends. Well this one boy would follow me home screaming at the top of his lungs "your fat, your a power house" and much more. I didn't want to say anything to my parents b/c I was so ashamed but they found out because I would come home every day in tears. My oldest brother went to school with this nasty boy's brother, so he told him what was going on. A few months went by and the father and this nasty boy showed up at my front door to appologize. I was so mortified I hid behind my Dad who was 300+ lbs at the time. I went thru the next 10 years of school with my eyes glued to the ground because I was so embarassed of myself. I think the boy learned his lesson because he was very nice to me after that (or he was afraid of my dad lol). Another was when I was about 17, 18... my brother and his wife used to have parties at their house. They would invite everyone, including my cousins, and neighbors but he would not invite me. I was friends with his wife's sister and one day she told me why he didn't invite me to his parties...it was b/c he was embarassed of how fat I was and that when they all got drunk they would make fun of me really bad at the parties. When the devistation comes from your own family it hurts 10x more. Years ago after losing 150 lbs, I confronted my brother. He said how sorry he was and how much he loved me. I told him to be careful of what you so dispise because it could wind up in your very own home. Well guess what folks.... his son is VERY fat and so is his wife... hmmmmmmmm. :guess -
Good luck and don't worry about your DH...he'll come around. Keep us posted on your son's progress. Hugs

Hey Carrie, hang in there. Just think about all the things you are going to prevent in the future. Are they sure your back problems are due to your weight? I mean I look at my MIL who's 70 lbs soaking wet and my DH who's 150 lbs and both have really bad backs (also my sister who's a twig). My DH has a hernated disc and the only thing they can do for him is give him pain killers and muscle relaxers until it gets better. Hugs and feel better !!

Very emotional about decision to get banded
NJChick replied to free101girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh Mary  your not alone thats for sure. I was a basket case (okay still am lol) from the time the thought of lap band even entered my mind until I woke up from surgery. Your thoughts are very much normal. Hang in there, you'll do the right thing. -
When I told my DH I was thinking about surgery his face lit up, I mean if he could have picked me up and ran around the house he would have. He was very excited because he knew how miserable I was and he wanted his wife to participate in life again. He's been 200% supportive and tells me every day how proud he is of me.

Why didn't we know ... before surgery?
NJChick replied to Tricia K.'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Are they dumb or lazy? hmmmm maybe both, maybe neither. I did research the band, there was no way I was going to have the procedure without knowing everything (well almost everything, you know what I mean). I was fortunate enough to have a friend recommend this place where I read and read and read (the good, the bad and the ugly, I wanted to know it all). Some people just don't know where to turn, yes, even this day and age so they go only by what they've learned in the doctor's seminar and/or the one support group meeting your (I) was supposed to attend b/4 surgery. I don't think I would have had the surgery done if I only went by what my doctor told us in the seminar which was basically, "cut, snip, fill, you'll only eat 3 bites for the rest of your life." WTF ??? Thank God I have you all and I really feel bad for folks who have had the surgery not knowing what to expect afterwards. -
How should we get rid of the Girl Scout Cookies?
NJChick replied to Dianechef's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Maybe reading what you ate might make you throw the rest of them in the garbage....so your dumping $1.75. Small price to pay compaired to gaining a lb or 2. I don't like GS Cookies but I always feel guilty not buying them from my co-workers kids. I don't like my boss either....so when the cookies come in, I give them to him :guess -
Pills and Supplements
NJChick replied to princess_n_thep's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Phentermine has been around for 40+ years. I believe it used to be prescribed as a "Water pill" but is now prescribed in weight loss aid. <TABLE border=0><TBODY><TR><TD>Phentermine is a sympathomimetic amine, which is similar to an amphetamine. It is also known as an "anorectic" or "anorexigenic" drug. Phentermine stimulates the central nervous system (nerves and brain), which increases your heart rate and blood pressure and decreases your appetite. Be very careful if you use it or any other drug that stimulates the CNS (watch for natural herbs too).... make sure its short term. I work for the company that makes Fen-Phen (Fenfluramine and Dexfenfluramine). I don't think they will be bringing that drug back to the market any time soon (it off the market), even after winning alot of the law suits. JMHO </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> -
ADD and ADHD runs like wild fire in my family. My Mom, Sister, ME, 5 nephews & neices and now I'm keeping an eye on my DD who's 4 years old. You definitly need to have your son tested by a professional. This is the best thing you can do for him. He can not understand why he acts the way he does. All he know's is that he is being labeled as "trouble" "problem" which we both know, he is neither. He just needs the right help. I've seen so many family member stuffer so. I wish there was help when I was growing up because I spent my entire school years thinking I was just to stupid to learn.... talk about low self-esteem. I've read that some kids will grow out of ADD and some won't. I have noticed in the past 25 years a big change in ADD ADHD medications. They are much better now than 25 years ago. There are several and its just a matter of getting the right one. Our kids and adults have had good luck with Adderall, as it seems to have less of a drop off effect than Ritalin (which I don't like). Some people feel that diet is a big contributor. Your a good Mom, keep researching, get all your info together and get to a doctor. Then and only then will you be able to come up with ways to help your son. Good luck and give that little guy a big ol hug from me. He's gonna be just fine.

Having a total stranger take a knife to my gut was one of the hardest things I ever had to do in my life. Eating the way I was eating was much easier. Edit.. People like to mock what they don't understand. Who ever thinks WLS is the easy way out just doesn't get it. They have no clue how much we all have suffered, physically and mentally. Obesity doesn't = medical problem, illness or sickness to them. Its just a matter of us shutting our mouths and eating less (so they think). Just like some folks don't understand that quitting smoking just isn't that easy. Its easier to pick up that cigarette than to go for help. Is it the easy way out to get meds for an illness? Is it the easy way out to get help for being an alcoholic, or gambling? No, so then why is it the easy way out getting help for our illness? I guess thats why I get PO'd when people say its the easy way out....because its not. JMHO..... now back to your regularly scheduled program.

Oh boy do I have bat wings. Some times I hear applause, I turn around and no one's there. I've gone up and down so much with my weight that I don't believe there's any help for me but I do know that it can take a few years for the skin to snap back...so keep up with the exercise and see. There's got to be some websites for bat wing exercise... I'll check into it later.
