The Ten Commandments of Healthy Weight Loss
Brandy~ replied to bxlisa's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for the post  -
Tulip pretty much summed up my experience so far... This is just a tool. If you're looking for a miracle that doesn't require any work this probably isn't the thing for you. If you're ready for a life change and a healthier you... Then the band is great. Like Tulip said go to a seminar you will know right away im sure if this is something you want to do. As with any surgery theres always a chance of a complication or risk. I healed really fast and was up doing normal things within a few days no biggie for me.

I live in the suburbs and I thank my lucky stars everyday for everything I have. I at one time lived in the public housing as a single mother of 2. I worked my way out of it... I was horrified by some of the conditions there. That's so offensive to hear someone talk about someone just being in that area as scandalous. I wasn't scandalous.. I just worked many hours to raise my kids and get ahead... I did and it probably wasn't because of people that stereotyped me either. I do VERY well for myself now and I own a very large house in the suburbs. I drive through my old neighborhood and I see people that just hope they can do what I managed to do someday. Oh and I would go to a doctor pretty much at any location if it was a doctor that I was willing to trust under the knife. I do lots of research on the doctors and hospitals.

I just say Thanks! We all work hard to be able to hear that. We need to embrace it whole heartedly because each and everyone of us deserve to hear those wonderful accomplishments. These are one of the best NSV's you will ever have. Each time you say Thanks! you radiate confidence and that.........IS SEXY! So stand up be proud and accept whatever compliment they want to throw your way. Oh and the best is when they don't know you've had the surgery so they aren't looking to see if you've change. Live it up!

Should I see PC to document skin issues?
Brandy~ replied to Brandy~'s topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Thanks for all the responses. I don't see a PC on a regular basis but I guess I might start now. It's $20 each time which is nothing compared to plastic surgery for sure. I was thinking I would go in atleast once and see her for it and then call back whenever it reoccurs and ask them to document the reoccurance -
Congratulations! Thats how my first 6 went and it was heaven. Keep up the great work

Ready to lose is it 16 pounds to your goal weight or are you setting a mini goal for yourself? Either waya Good luck!

Luckily I heard about this ahead of time... I researched lap band for 2 years before deciding... and I quit 2/07. My surgeon required that I be quit for 6 months prior so it worked out no prob my surgery was 4/08. Really no reason to have a surgery to make you healthier if you plan on killing yourself with smoking.

Should I see PC to document skin issues?
Brandy~ replied to Brandy~'s topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
How do you document them? Do you go to the doctor each time? Take pics? or journal? Sorry for all the questions but it could save me a ton in the long run. -

Not sure if what I'm feeling is normal.
Brandy~ replied to wise1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It does sound like the taste I kept tasting and was told it was anesthesia too. If you're ever in doubt just call the doctors office. The nurses are always willing to answer questions :smile2: -
Hi Asmith :smile2: You're definetly in the right place. You're 100% right that what you're experiencing now is far worse than the band. With the band as a tool you can regain your life and confidence Just poke around on here and read all that you can. There is a Plethora of knowledge on here for you to absorb. I would start with going to a seminar usually with your local bariatric surgeon to get a hands on feel for how it all works  I am sorry but isn't that just an advertisement for your establishment Dr?

Many questions. help please
Brandy~ replied to lovinmykids's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello Lovin Are you self pay? Do you have insurance? I ask because like the last poster what you do next entirely depends on whether you have insurance or not. Some insurance or doctors require proof of weight history, proof of diet attempts (Usually 6 months) A BMI over 40 or under 40 if you have comorbities. Phsyciatric evaluation, blood tests and a seminar/consultation. I know it sounds like alot but just make a check off list of the requirements they give you and work on one at a time... Believe me it's worth it! -

She may not have restriction in the size of the pouch but... She still has a smaller hole in which food has to travel through. If she swallows something that isn't chewed as well as it should be it cannot go down easily into the pouch. I had this happen before I learned how to chew properly before even getting a fill :smile2:

Got a surgery date! Now a little bit scared...
Brandy~ replied to PDXBandster's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey PDX I am in Eugene! Hooray so close. Congrats on your surgery date. Its easy to say but it is true.. Don't worry.. This is the first day to the rest of your life. When you're on the table and they put the mask on you... You will take only a few breathes not feel a thing and wake up banded. Once they wake you up you may or may not have a dry itchy throat. They usually give you some ice cubes or Water for it. For the next couple hours you will be really sleepy and doze on and off. They will get you up and have you walk around after that. You will be a little stiff and maybe sore but just take it slow. Good LUCK! -

I found this page when I went searching for information. Looks like you can write it off even if it's foreign. This is from a medical vacation site: Taxes
