Bostonlady found my "Dietary Guidelines for Laparoscopic Gastric Banding" packet and Phyllis email is pthomason(at)partners(dot)com like L2T7 mentioned getting in enough protein isnt so much an issue bc we dont have the malabsorption like the bypass folks have. Ive tried the shots and they tasted pretty good but I couldnt afford them on a long term basis. There is also some controversy about how much protein we can process at one time. Ive heard its around 36 grams of protein at a time (unless you are a bodybuilder)...anything higher than that is just filtered out. It doesnt mean its bad for you just that more isnt always better........Wish I could get that one answered

you already got your GI results? thats good.you still feel the food sitting after your unfill? Heidi Dr V is very anti ibuprofen and Ive only taken in the childrens dosage and washed it down with lots of water. Lapband.com - LAP-BAND® System Risk and Complications Information "Anti-inflammatory drugs that may irritate the stomach, such as aspirin and NSAIDs, should be used with caution"

you really have to try and find the protein drink you like. Cant go wrong with SF CIB (I bump it up with unjury unflavored). I also tolerate the Atkins RID (ready to drink) ones. Special K has one now but it doesnt have as much protein as Atkins and tad higher calories. Cheapest place to buy is def. Walmart. L2T7-funny that we've both seen Phyllis recently. sorry Dr R wont listen to you. Did he suggest the uppper gi or you? Happy to hear you are able to eat better now and not suffering. Just discovered I am slightly restricted on solid protein...the junk still slides.

I believe they were the first hospital in Boston to do banding after it was approved by the FDA or maybe they were involved in the trials?. Great rep and I heard a very long involved program best of luck
-
double book baby....Im sure if you were suffering they could squeeze you in...right? I'm the opposite...pretty sure I could use MORE fill. Oh well I will wait until I get back from my trip since Im flying West. and yes I do agree with what you said above L2T7, I'm so close to being normal and I think I want it more NOW then before I had surgery.

Trader Joes has decent priced chewable multi. Ive tried the gummies for adults but like someone mentioned they dont give 100% of the RDA and if you take more than one they could get stuck
-
I know...I realized that after I hit reply. Thing is I'm hungry and know why I havent lost just by looking at my food journal. I need more restriction but I wonder if I am gun shy at the first hint of restriction? Up until recently Ive had no food intolerances (except tough meat) and can eat most things. Will have to see how this so called fill works out. And guess what? Bc I was getting a tiny fill they used a smaller syringe and they didnt withdraw the fluid Dr V says Im ahead of the game bc on average people loose 60% of their excess weight and Im (and you) are over that

I bumped into Phyllis this morning at the Faulkner and was coming here to post about the meeting being canceled and you beat me to it. Thanks for the 411 Surf and the back story. The regular Faulkner meeting is Monday the 10th (coming up!) Dragon Slayer- hope your surgery went well. Hi there Heidi Msdollarz sounds like you are doing great, I think its fantastic that you dont need a fill. Fills alone do not make us lose weight its our behavior and how we use this tool. You're not missing out on anything believe me bostonlady I dont know much about Dr T other than hes quite handsome and I heard very nice. Now I think you just need to book pre-op and surgery dates K8_MA when is your surgery date? singing how you feeling? Went to Dr V for a fill at the Faulkner today. They are training a new PA and her NP gave me a fill (I forget her name but she has short blond hair and may be Russian???). She did a great job with the fill and I felt confident. I wanted .2cc but after I drank water felt that tightness in my throat. It was very minor and I know I could work thru it but I wasnt willing to put up with being too tight. Had them take some out...so I only ended up with .05cc added. Thing that gets me is my fill level has been higher than this. While I was there I explained to the PA how getting a fill is very meaniful its not just about the number. It represents the hope that we can take off weight. So when I only got that tiny fill I was disappointed bc Im not sure I can break out of this plateau.

Brigham and Faulkner LB Support Calendar 2009
nomadem replied to singingintherain's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
hello just a note that August 18th mtg at the Brigham is canceled -
I agree that it was a good meeting and its helped me keep on battling. Feel like I need the support more now that right after surgery....that was a time for learning and experience the newness of it...now its time to face the real demons of why/how I use food in my life Ive lost the 4lbs Ive gain but have to face two showers, a cookout and a birthday party this weekend!

Tova it will be great to see you if you can make it! I am planning on going..may be late depending on traffic so save me a seat. There is a study that says that many with the 14cc band feel their restriction around the halfway point, everyone is different so dont compare.Right now I am around 7.6 and was at an all time high time high of 9.0 which was much too tight and wasnt losing. Id like to be around 8.1 but we'll see how this fill goes in the next few weeks I am planning on going..may be late depending on traffic so save me a seat.

hello everyone-went in for my fill yesterday..been unrestricted for 6+ weeks and have gained a bit (five lbs to be exact). Vernon wasnt concerned as she thinks I am where I should be...um no I still need to lose 30lbs in my book. I knew I wanted to be where I was back in Jan (around 8.1 ccs) and she agreed to put that back in but when I drank my water I felt a slight tightness in my throat. Dont know if its from this stupid cold I have or the fill so I had her take out .2 ccs. I wont be happy if I have to go back for more of a fill but its worth it not to have to make an emergency unfill appt. It doesnt get easier does it? Yes there are TWO Jennifers...took me a while to figure that one out.

my flyer could be old....I think the person responsible for the meetings is the bariatric coordinator but now I cant find her email. Brigham And Women's Hospital - Events Registration

Luv I so hope this fill works for you bc youve had such a hard time with them I made a challenge with my sister to lose 1lb a week for a wedding and now my coworkers want in. We are extending the work one until labor day...havent worked out what exactly the criteria is yet but I need some motivation! **MEETINGS MONDAY JULY 13TH AT THE FAULKNER. TUESDAY JULY 21ST IS THE BRIGHAM**

can I join the "I need a fill club'? I have an appt after the holiday on July 6th. My last two appts were both for unfills the last one I lost all my restriction. Right now not gaining but not losing either. Im ready to get down to business and back on the program so I hopeu this fill works. At least now I know what my upper limit for fills is. Luv2 see if you can get .25 or .30 bc you know 1.0 is too much for you. Jay nice to run into the night at the show...gonna send you a pm on this site. Oh and that was ME who misspelled Faulkner. Wish I could fix it. Hi ya Heidi and singing and everyone!!!

good to hear from you sining! remember to take it easy even if you feel okay and stick to the post-op diet...... even if you think you can eat solids DONT you need to heal those stitches in place
-
lol :crying: sorry that doesnt help much, 90% of the meeting is asking questions. Where were you sitting? In anycase hello and welcome again

okay first things first...you will have access to your Dr via thier pager # or whomever is covering if there is an emergency. Also there is a PA line if you have a non-urgent medical question/issue. Ive used the PA you will need to leave a message and Ive paged my Dr directly post-op. If you dont have this information in your packet then you will be supplied with it before you leave the hospital. If you are trying to reach the office for appts then yes that can be a hassle. But like L2T7 said the best thing is to be as detailed as possible of when a good call back time is. I find late afternoons best time to reach my dr office. In my many many office visits Ive only encountered 2 Med Students (or maybe interns?) once one took my medical history before the Dr came in. Another time one was in the room and the Dr asked if the student could give me a fill and I refused. Wasnt a huge issue at all. I did however have a Fellow who assisted my surgeon during my operations... fellows are post-residents who are training in a subspeciality field. If I recall he was quite handsome and with a great bedside manner. Oh and then there are the med students who may do rounds first thing in the morning....they just ask you questions and want to take a look-see at your incision. Kinda have to expect it at a teaching hospital singing I thought your surgery was this week.... warm wishes for a speedy recovery. :crying:

just a quick hello to everyone. How are you all doing? Im doing okay....was supposed to get back on the program last week and was derailed by the holiday weekend....lost most of my restriction with my last unfill. Thats okay but the hunger came back. Ever see that commerical for Weight Watchers and they have a little red monster called "hungry". Id like to get my hands on that little guy. lol check in when you can folks....

Hello everyone...great to see new and old faces at the support meeting yesterday. I think next meeting I may bring some band related materials for discussion. BostonLady Welcome. I think most of your questions were answered. Just thought I would post a book recommendation... I like this one bc it was about living with the band by a banded person. "Fighting Weight" by Khaliah Ali, daughter of Mohammad Ali, and her lapband Drs (btw her surgeon has the band) Dr. George Fielding, World Class Surgeon - Laparoscopic, Bariatric Surgery at NYU Medical Center Amazon.com: Fighting Weight: How I Achieved Healthy Weight Loss with "Banding," a New Procedure That Eliminates Hunger--Forever: Khaliah Ali, George Fielding, Christine Ren, Lawrence Lindner: Books

thank you so much for the notice of room change for the meeting! Hang in there MzD...I was one of those 'lucky' folks who did have a lot of pain and yes I took the silver bullets at l2t7 referred to and it was worth it . When I caught the stomach bug and was sick at 1am they were very helpful. TIP: the liquid pain meds are hard to fill...either call the Dr office and ask for the script before your surgery or fill the actually script in the pharmacy AT the hospital. I once had a delay filling it at CVS even with getting the script a head of time bc of a weekend and holiday...its not something you want to be without.
-
congrats on finishing your race l2t! Im going to get there at some point. Purhaps I need to set a fitness goal? viv so sad to hear about your complications but that everything seems okay now. I would think with the steriod shot it may make you retain a bit more fluid than usual. How could you come home to a bill already? It should be the surgery bc believe me the billing dept isnt that good. lol Jay the B+W meeting is next Tuesday (19th) and I will be there for sure!
-
sorry I didnt reply before....this is a question you need to ask your new insurance.. Bc you will not have a break in insurance coverage I do not think they can deny you. From what I know surgical follow up co-pays post op are usually at no charge for 90 days....if you arent certain then ask when you check in bc they will take your money regardless. I asked my Dr what would I do if I didnt have insurance and she said we would work something out and it would work out to be similar to an the cost of an office exam

Jay I do know what you mean about looking at the names and not wanting and old person...that was part of the problem with the lady I started seeing. She was older and I dont think could relate to me at all. I am really hooked on facebook (just ask Paige) but the problem is the doodlebop (idiot in my office) was on it so much that they did ban it....now I have to access it from my cell phone. fyi I am in a National sorority and Im still involved as a board memeber. We arent co-ed but we do have brothers....actually we have a chapter at your BSC. We'll have to talk more.
