Do You Enjoy Eating More or Less after Banded?
favorite replied to yellowroseaz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i do not enjoy eating like i did before. but for me it is a blessing. i loved to eat to the point that all i wanted to do was eat and eat and eat. that is all i looked forward to doing. now that i'm banded after a few bites i'm done. who wants to deal with the pain of getting stuck. not me. so i now can explore other interests, whereas before my only interest was food. -
you can do it with the band. i could have gotten either surgery and chose the band, for the reason that i didnt want my insides rearranged. with rny the weight loss will be quicker but over a 5 year period the stats are pretty much the same in weight loss for both. i'm thrilled with the band. if i can eat too much i get a fill and its tighter. if i cant eat enough (imagine that) i can get an unfill and my band lets me take in more food.

i live in ny and am banded. i have blue cross blue shield pos and had no problem. just had to meet with a dietitian once a month for 6 months. my girlfriend has ppo and she didnt even have to do the six month diet. just being overweight was all she needed to get approved.

never, never, never. i only wish i had done it sooner.

I'm Back......and DISAPPOINTED
favorite replied to Tracyde730's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
i had to see a dietitian once a month for 6 months. that seems to be the norm for most insurances. but i do know people whose doctors gave them letters that they were under his care for 6 consecutive months with all the necessary info the insurance wanted and speeded up the process. good luck the band is a God send. -
you should see your doctor, but i'll bet it's gas.
-
i think you should do the 6 month supervised diet with a dietitian that works with the surgeon you would use for the lap band surgery. the dietitian will teach you during those 6 months the changes that have to be made to succeed with the band. if you are really committed you will find out what needs to be done and do it. i hope you are so you can start enjoying life instead of being miserable about your weight. good luck!!!

Do you burp more now that you are banded? (non-productive, just air)
favorite replied to dustout's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
no no no fanny a burp thats stuck is no way like getting stuck. when you get stuck you have pain, and i mean pain in the middle of your chest, right between the boobs. its the food and it either goes down after a while or it comes up. but it is very uncomfortable. you also salivate while the food is stuck and if you swallow the saliva it just adds to the stuck food more. so you have to spit out the saliva. i usually get a little burp when its time for me to stop eating and if i dont stop i pay for it. you just have to learn about your own body and how it works with the band. -
How many of you felt you might fail at first?
favorite replied to SueSue's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
sue sue, i took insulin for my diabetes and know what you are going through. the fact that you lost any weight while on insulin is amazing to me. i gained constantly. your journey is just going to be different, but if you stick to it you will succeed. definately do eat the protein first then vegetable and something low carb. for my carb i usually have a toasted whole wheat pita bread. toasting it makes it taste better and takes longer to eat. and try to eat as s l o w as you can. -
unfortunately cake and bread go down easy for me and chicken gets stuck. go figure. getting my second fill on 1/29. currently have 1cc in 4cc band.

welcome!! it is wonderful that there is this surgery to help people like us get our lives back. this is going to be the best thing you have ever done for yourself. i see you are 25 years old, get ready for the social scene to really take off.

if its the same in both breasts i would certainly not think it was anything serious. but go to the doctor anyway to ease your mind, and find out exactly what it is.

i live in new york and have blue cross blue shield insurance. i had absolutely no problem with the insurance covering my operation fully. i did a lot of research myself before deciding on the lap band. so do your research, and i am sure the more you read the more you will agree that it is the way to go when all else fails. i never knew what being full was before i had my band. i was either starving or stuffed. now i know what it is like to be full without feeling like i'm going to explode. :clap2:

i didn't drive home, but i very easily could have.:gluck:

A November Nymph is 50lbs lighter!
favorite replied to hollyberries's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
you must feel great....congrats!!! -
i was banded on 10/15 and lost about 20 lbs in the first 3 weeks. then as i healed i was able to eat just as much as i did prior to the band. i thought i had made a mistake and that i would never get this weight off. then i started to eat really hard foods that needed to be chewed a lot. that was the magic bullet. i feel full much faster and need to stop eating after a few florets of raw broccoli dipped in salad dressing and a cold (much harder to eat cold) chicken leg. as of today i am down 35 lbs. and feel like the next 100 lbs. won't be impossible.

How do you "doctor" your cottage cheese?
favorite replied to crikkit's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
to make cottage cheese sweet, add apple sauce. to make it salty, slice or dice pickles and add them. and i think it was president nixon that liked cottage cheese with ketchup. not bad either. try it. and to everyone good luck on your journey!!! -
