    January - Summer 2008 Challenge

starryeyed.......280.......199......237......38 I want to be in ONEderland no later than this summer!
  2. I definitely know how you feel. I don't have a suggestion to cure this but it does get easier. I was banded 11/01/07 and there were times in the first few weeks after surgery that I really understood why they do a psych eval. The 'need' for certain kinds of foods I used to overindulge in was maddening. It's still a struggle not to eat certain foods but it doesn't overwhelm me as much as at first. Good luck and hang in there! starryeyed P.S.- I also found that reading here rather that eating is really supportive and keeps me on track.

    ex-wives are bitches

Since this is the rant part of the forum, I am going to add my rant. Ex-wives are not only bitches, they are stupid, annoying, trouble-making bitches. Unfortunately I also have an ex-wife in my life and she is the same sort of gossipy overly concerned type. Just wanted you to know you are not alone.

    Countdown to Onederland!

I have 46 lbs. to go before Onederland but I can't wait. Congrats to all of you who are so close or already there! I hope to be in Onederland by this spring. I was down to 185 2 years ago and I remember I was starting to feel pretty good about how I looked. Onederland would also mean being 40-50 lbs. away from goal, yippee! starryeyed

Someone who hadn't seen me for a year....

That is so awesome! I can't wait to look forward to seeing people I haven't seen in awhile rather than being afraid of seeing them. starryeyed

In Your 20's And Had Surgery?

I am 27 and banded on 11/01. I am SO glad I did this sooner rather than later. I don't want to be fat even one minute longer than necessary. I also heard comments like "are you sure you can't do it on your own?". If I could do it on my own I would have never had surgery. My surgeon told me that having gastric banding or bypass does not mean you are a failure. He also said that diets don't work for 98% of people. think yo-yo dieting made me much fatter than I would have been had I never dieted. starryeyed
  10. I was banded on Nov. 1st and my post op is 12/11. I don't know if they'll do a fill but I hope so. Sometimes it seems like I can eat more than I want to, especially at night. starryeyed
  11. I just want to add that I can't understand why someone who works specifically in the area of the treatment of obesity would be so rude. Don't let this discourage you! You are going to do great! From what I understand it could take several fills to be in the 'green zone'. starryeyed

    Don't look at me!!!!

I was very thin until age 22 and got lots of positive attention because of it. I am now 27 and it's pretty hard to get much positive attention regarding my body when I am 100 lbs. overweight. That being said, I know that I am very much looking forward to once again being svelte and everything that goes with that, including the attention. I don't think it will make me uncomfortable. I feel much more uncomfortable with being overweight and let me tell you, I DREAD seeing anyone who I knew 5 yrs. ago who hasn't seen the overweight me. I am day 18 post-op and hanging in there. starryeyed
  13. Well I got the lap band I have been waiting for on Nov. 1st. I was in quite a bit of pain at first but I feel really good today. So much so that a little bit of my appetite is coming back and I don't like that. I lost 9 lbs. on the 2 week pre op diet and have lost another 11 lbs. since surgery. I have had a LOT of restriction and absolutely no appetite until today. I still have one more week of Optifast and then one week of TrePuree meals. I don't know how I'm gonna do it. I am getting really tired of the shakes although it's really exciting seeing the weight come off. I am trying to hang in there. Dieting can be quite hard on the nerves and I am going to start taking Wellbutrin tomorrow in the hopes that it alleviates some of the anxiety and depression. starryeyed

    Major Hairloss..Any suggestions?

Has anybody here that has experienced hair loss tried hair extensions? I am terrified to lose my hair and think hair extensions would be my first defense. But I am wondering, wouldn't the extensions fall out too? starryeyed

    scared of dying

I am getting banded in 4 days and I am scared too. I am 27 years old and I have two small children. I sometimes wonder, am I taking an unecessary risk? But, would I be being fair to myself to just resign myself to being fat? starryeyed

    Why are YOU Fat?

Several possible reasons why I am fat: 1. Obesity runs very strongly in my mother's side of the family. 2. Two kids 17 months apart. 3. And sadly, an emotionally unfufilling marriage to a husband with flat affect, who never gets excited or happy or shows much enthusiasm about anything. It's EASY to eat yourself to a happy place and that's what I have been doing. Loneliness can be a great recipe for fat. 4. I like food, no doubt about it. 5. It's easier not to exercise, even though I enjoy doing so. starryeyed

    What is the one thing

The clothes. Definitely the clothes. I see so many things want to buy but can't fit into and it hasn't always been that way, so I am looking forward to the freedom to look great in clothes again.
  18. I am getting banded Nov 1st and I am so excited and can hardly believe it's real. Even though everything is all set to go I keep thinking maybe it's not going to really happen. starryeyed
  19. Hi everyone! I have been reading here for the past couple of days and it has really helped. So many of my questions have been answered. I am on day four (out of 14) of my Optifast, broth, and raw veg. pre-op diet. It's had it's ups and downs. I am missing real food but it keeps getting easier. I am excited to be getting the band but I hope it works as well as I want it to. My surgeon said the 'average' weight lost is 50% of what you need to lose and that is not what I was hoping for. But, I am willing to put forth more than average effort. I am really excited to have this opportunity to get back to my 'right' weight. I'm looking forward to sharing experiences with the group! starryeyed

    Newbie (band date 11/01)

I am so excited to be getting banded in 8 days! It's really starting to sink in! I am looking forward to having a tool to help me get my life back and stop feeling ashamed. I want to like the way I look and feel good about it for the first time in 5+ years. starryeyed
  21. Hi, I'm a newbie. My banding date is 11/01 and I started my pre-op diet on 10/18. I am really surprised at how many different pre-op diets there are! My pre-op diet consists of five 8 oz Optifast brand diet shakes, clear broth, sugar-free liquids, and raw vegetables/salads. I was required to buy shakes for one month (2 weeks pre/post op), chewable Vitamins for after surgery and 7 days worth of frozen pureed meals. Is this similar to anything anyone else is doing? I am reading some of your pre-op diets and my mouth is watering at the thought of tuna or turkey or cottage chesse! I was also told the purpose of the diet is to reduce the liver. I wasn't given a specific amount of weight to lose. I have to say, it's been fairly miserable. I've really been missing food. It's even been making me second guess myself and it's only been two days! Does this diet seem overly restrictive? I can't see how every person getting this surgery can do this perfectly. I hope it gets better. starryeyed
