Please recommend an unflavored protein powder
jphilp replied to Superfluous's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I use Whey Protein isolate micro filtered from truenutrition.com. The cold filtered dissolves in everything and has a neutral flavor as well, but I recommend the micro filtered if you are at all sensitive to lactose. -
Getting sleeved tomorrow at 8am and sitting here trying to make sure everything is order for my return home. Does anyone have any ideas for thing they wish they had done the night before their big day?

@@Big_Mama I ended up bringing a tablet, robe, toothbrush, and toothpaste. Beaumont would not let me take gas-X strips so those stayed in my wife's purse. The one thing that came in very handy was the sugar free NICE lozenges that one of the nurses gave me. It wasn't clear that after the surgery I was not allowed any liquids until they did the leak test the next morning. No liquids made for a very dry mouth and throat.

If you go really slow on the inhaler machine you won't get any air in your stomach. It is actually fairly important that you use that machine because people on narcotics tend to take shallow breaths and that forces you to take more natural deep breaths so your lungs can clear themselves out.

Made it through ok, leak tested and released today. I am a lot more sore than I expected to be, but no big sharp pains. The sipping is probably the worst part so far. The more I try to sip the more air I end up ingesting.

Good luck to you too! Not sure how much sleep I will be getting tonight either.

Did they give you any problems bringing the gas-x strips into the hospital? I keep getting mixed messages on if they will allow it or not.

Is a colonoscopy a requirement for the sleeve surgery?
jphilp replied to wannaBthinsoon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to do the yearly colonoscopy/EGD combo due to family history and was told I had to get it done before my sleeve. The primary reason was that he said it will be close to impossible to complete the prep for 6+ months afterward. The added benefit is that you can have your EGD doc check for a hernia at the same time. You are in and out of the hospital in under 2 hours. -
Bitter tasting shakes with burping
jphilp replied to Damasyn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most of the common Protein shakes are whey based. You may want to look for other Protein powder sources such as Gemma Peas or Egg Whites.
