To Tell or Not to Tell???
bmysuccess replied to DeRaco's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do what you feel comfortable with, it's okay to tell people, the down side is it can stress you cause sometimes they ask to many question. I told alot of people I was so excited, one of the reasons is for me I knew it would help me stay on track because I knew they would be watching my success. By seeing my sucess I now have 3 people who have had it because I inspired them to do something about their weight. Your always going to have someone who questions your decision, that's okay everyone has a right to their own thoughts. But this is a decision that can improve your health and quality of life. I would encourage anyone to consider the lapband, it's changed my life or rather it gave me my life back. -
Are you dissappointed in your weight loss since banding?
bmysuccess replied to wishin4's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm 54 and got banded on 8/29/07 and to date have lost 59 lbs. I have the AP small band and have 8.6 cc's in it and it's at the perfect tightness. Love my band!!! -
No regrets, I'm almost 5 months from surgery and 56 pounds lost. I've had a few issues but not as great as the ones I was having before the lapband. WLS is not for everyone, but for the ones of us who took the chance it's WONDERFUL!!!!!

Since I eat out alot and to stop the questions I will order water, and old habits are hard to break I would sometime take a sip only to suffer when I did. I recently decided to say when asked that I didn't want anthing to drink, the waitress screamed out I don't think I've ever waited on anyone who didn't want anything to drink, so I quitely said I've had surgery so I can't drink with my meals. Boy was that the wrong thing to say, the next remarks from the waitress was Gosh! what did they do to you that you can't drink. After she finally left our table half the restaurant knew I couldn't drink while eating. Made me feel like they we thinking, well if she drink more and ate less she wouldn't be so fat. And yes I did leave her a tip, I just figured I may be fat and I'm doing something about it, but she was stupid and to stupid to realize it.

Spanx.....anyone wear them? I have a question.....
bmysuccess replied to JudiM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Friday on Oprah the designr of Spanx was on (Sarah Blakley?) she said the has a product under the Target label call Assets. I checked and they are just like Spanx and are cheaper, they are at Target stores -
Try to get the insurance thur your employer, it will cost less than on your on. You may have a hard time getting coverage on you due to your weight, if you are able to you will possibly be rated to a higher premium. Most insurance companies have a weight chart they go by, so try to get it with your employer.

On the biggest loser blog for the ones that are voted off, it says they exercise at least 5 hours a day. Isn't it amazing how the fat tones up. Most of the people keep the weight off after leaving the show, some gain a small amount back. I know 2 of the people who have been on the show and they live to exercise now, but they look great now!

You guys all look great, makes me want to figure our how to put mine on here. I will have my band 3 months on Nov. 29, and 38 lbs lighter!
-
Usually your stomach swells after a fill so thinks get stuck easier which makes us bring it up causing our stomach to swell more. Excessive swelling can make the band slip.

it may not be that common but it does happen. I personally know one that was about 105 overweight and her dr tried to do the lapband but her liver was so fatty he was afraid of liver damage he stopped. She ended up having bypass instead, it does happen, that's why the prediet is so important. In a comversaton with her she said she didn't follow the prediet, makes me wonder what would have happened if she had.

yes it normal part of it, some people have it worse than other. I thought I was losing my mind, called my dr and they lots of people go into depression for a few days after surgery, mine lasted for about 2 weeks, left as fast as it came on.
-
You chose the extra 2 weeks, it's your decision on this, but the 2 weeks for the doctor, do as they say. It's all done for a reason, to reduce size of liver so less complications during surgery. What are you going to do if they say, sorry can't do surgery due to fatty liver, it does happen.

I'm 3 months from surgery and just starting to have hair loss, I've followed the protein and other instructions to the letter, but I'm having hair loss. Just started taking biotin hoping it will help, I got it at W-mart. My hair dresser told me today I should have started taking it when I had surgery, taking it after it starts doesn't help much.

Should I contact the doctor or Ins first?
bmysuccess replied to Iwanttodoit's topic in Insurance & Financing
go to the Dr, they have people trained on working with the ins. company. Good luck -
My surgery is canceled- I'm so so :(
bmysuccess replied to Whatnow24's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think I would be having the dr. to explain somethings to me as to why he let it get this far. Try to find a way to pay for it, it's well worth it. -
chicken of any kind, pork, beef no matter how it's cooked. Also cheese especially cottage cheese (why that should just slide down). Tried to eat a grilled cheese, real pain!

bmysuccess replied to Kim_in_SF's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know tommorrow will be hard for you, especially the day before Thanksgiving. At least they caught what was wrong and it can be fixed. My prayers are with you and may you be sleeping in your own bed tomorrow night. Best of luck! -
Today's the first day of your lapband journey, best of luck!!
-
Welcome, you've come to the right place. I've been banded for 3 months and it's the best thing I've ever done. Get banded and join us, we will encourage you all the way!

Spanx.....anyone wear them? I have a question.....
bmysuccess replied to JudiM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I wear them and they run true to size, I get mine at Stein Mart for $9.99 a pair (they are usually aroung $20). Be sure to hand wash. The fabric is so soft they don't bind, even in the folds skin. I would recommend them to anyone. -
Did anyone else do a Barium Swallow before Surgery??
bmysuccess replied to OutbackJo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I had to have it done before surgery and had to also do it again before I could leave hospital after surgery. It's my understanding that it's required to make sure you are able to have surgery, and that you can swallow liquid after surgery.
