I am 49 year old female and just had Gastric Sleeve surgery July 19, 2014. I started battling my weight when I was in junior high. I was always the biggest girl. Even when I was healthy and working at sizes 13 - 14 I always weighed in the 175 - 179. In 1996 I had back surgery (175 lbs) they told me I was already obese don't gain any weight. So 8 mths on pain pills and Doritos I put on about 60 pd. From then forward it was from one diet to another. In 2005 I was at 270 so on a major diet I went, I lost 92 lbs - then gained all the way back to 257 by 2014. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I had gained and lost the same 50 to 70 lbs over and over and over.

January 30, 2014 I weighed in at 257 and went to my first doctor's apt. I suffered from Re-flux, urinary stress incontinence, leg pain and swelling, dyspnea upon exertion, high cholesterol and low back pain. My insurance required 3 mths medical supervised dieting. July 19, 2014 I had surgery at 240 lbs.

I don't even know what kind of goal to set because for as long as i can remember it was "Don't weigh more tomorrow than I did today" and "please let my uniform fit."

Since surgery, I no longer take my stomach medicine for the reflux and have had no indigestion or heart burn. My legs are not aching, even though they still feel heavy during exercise.

Surgery was a little scary considering my age; my only regret is I did not do it 20 years ago. I have had very little sickness, nausea and no vomiting since the initial day of surgery (vomiting on day 1). There was little to no pain when i got out of hospital even though the doc sent me home with good pain drugs if I had needed them.

I came to Bariatricpal.com because I was looking for some quick answers to some questions.
