I am getting banded on 12/17 and am working with my doctor to make payment arrangements on about the $3000 I will have to pay. Good luck.

My surgery date is 12/17.... I go next week for all of my pre-op appts. and start my one month of liquid diet the following Monday. I am down for some reason. I have been eating whatever I want... almost like saying goodbye... and of course I have to start my liquid stuff the week of Thanksgiving.... for so many years that holiday, as all holidays, revolve around food.... 1. parade 2. food 3. nap I know I am making the right decision.. but right now feel really depressed about it..... and when I think about it I get even more upset with myself.. how selfish... I am going to get healthy.. wow... and there are people fighting with insurance companies and just can't have the surgery and I am down about not eating Thanksgiving.... wow..... :faint:

When they say a patient will have between 50% - 60% weight loss what exactly do they mean... I have never been able to get a straight answer for this question.

Congratulations on making the choice. I am starting at about 360 and go for my pre-op stuff next week with surgery scheduled on the 17th of December. My doctor said that he thought Bypass was a better option but understood my concerns about the mortality rate and that if I lived in Australia I wouldn't get anything but the lap band... I think that what most people have said here is correct... depends on the person and their amount of determination! Good luck!

Nope this has nothing to do with lap bands BUT I have a 4 year old niece and a 1 year old nephew. We got them all gussed up yesterday and went trick or treating..... all is well.... after about 30 minutes they were on sensory overload and we came home... my mom was answering the door at my sister's... when we got home I started answering the door for her for a while and who shows up but 4 TEENAGE boys NOT WEARING ANY COSTUME!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is the worst part of Halloween for me...... I think it should be for the little ones (I don't have any issue with the big ones trick or treating if they are going with their little sibs) and for God sake take the time to PUT ON a costume!

I have three. a saxophone between my shoulders... a butterfly on my right thigh and a frog sitting on a treble clef on my left ankle once I am "skinny" I want to get one on my lower back

Let me tell you that I am 7 weeks and 2 days from surgery and have already had one panic attack...I know I am making the right decision but as I am reading I am finding that _everybody_ has felt this way..... we can do this!!!!!! All of us!!!!!!!!!

I am so sorry this is happening to you. In my experiences with money crap and doctors the doctor/office usually has nothing to do with the money... especially in larger hospitals/organizations. If you are uncomfortable with the surgeon then I would defiently reconsider, however if is just the financial part then I would go for it..... You could also go "higher up" and see if that gets you anywhere. Best of luck!

Hello there! I am scheduled for surgery the same day that you are in Indiana. I start my pre-op stuff a week from Monday and see the dietcian that week too. Do you get to see a diet specialist? I would suggest that... they should be able to answer any question that you have about eating after the surgery! Best wishes!

Oh my gosh am I with ya on that! I start my pre-op diet in two weeks and am going for surgery on 12/17. I think places like this will help and my shrink (that is part of the plan here is psychology too) is to find something else to do when you eat... read a book, take a walk, play with the dog... etc. Me.... I think it will be stitching and of course my cute dog!

Barb - I totally am at the same place you are... my surgery is 12/17. You are not alone!

As I read these posts I am really concerned about hunger. (my surgery date is 12/17) I don't deal well with being hungry. I have gotten myself to eat three meals a day and I don't eat unless I am hungry/when I am hungry. (big step for me) BUT.... sometimes it is really hard not to eat, especially between lunch and dinner when I am starving. Have most of you experienced being hungry after surgery... and is it really intense? I don't want to go through surgery (especially a week before Christmas) and be starving anyway. :help:

That you are most excited about doing/being/fitting into when you achieve your goal weight? Me... I am looking forward to playing with my VERY active 4 year old neice and not getting tired and wearing a BELT!!!!!!!!!!!! :whoo:

WOW SGHATI!!!!!!!!! If you can do that I can do the month I am going to do... the doc requires two weeks I asked to be on it for 4!

I am like most others... safety and recovery time and slower weight loss is better for the system.

I don't get my band until December.. but the first thing in that popped into my mind was: Doctor knows best....I would trust your doctor.

I am being banded at the Elkhart Surgery Center in Elkhart, IN by Dr. Hoekstra. Getting closer!

Another Merry Loser here too. My surgery is scheduled for December 17th. I start the pre-op diet on November 12th (early, I know.. by my choice) Here was go!!!! I just hope I don't ruin Christmas for the rest of my fam!
