  1. tinakins - i found the band extremely useful in just that purpose, helping me make better food choices. for whatever reason (and i'm thankful for), i really lost the cravings for the foods that helped put the LBS on: (chips, potatoes, Pasta, pizza - etc). there really wasn't any food i didn't like then or currently, i just enjoyed TOO much of it all, and the band has helped with my portions. so while i am SO glad i got the band, i also realize that i put a lot of work into it as well. i revamped my eating habits, got back in the gym, and pay an awful lot attention to what groceries i purchase. i KNEW that i was going to be a slow loser in the begining - and i was; only 25lbs in the first 5 months. i would have been mortified if i told anyone & had the food police or daily questions as to why the band "isn't working". i also needed 8 fills for restriction. so while i was banded in oct - true restriction for me didn't happen till march....it was a tad frustrating - keeping it private made it manageable....for me at least.
  2. yesterday - b- 1.5oz cheddar w/3 wheat thins l - 1c field greens w/2oz tuna s- handful of raw almonds d- 3 turkey & cranberry ravioli (kcmago - these came out great, very filling!)

    Where's BBK?

green - i got hooked on it this wkend. my mom's blonde - she's creating her acct now!!!:cursing:
  4. it's all personal. not sharing or disclosing having surgery - i do not view as lying. 80% of this journey has been my effort - i view the band as a tool to keep me on track & to assist in not re-gaining. the band does not go food shopping for me & pick out healthy items. the band does not got to the gym & run when i rather stay in bed. the band does not get out my scales or measuring cups to dole out my meals. i'm in control of all those - again, the band "assists". i am very grateful for the band, it "helped" re-teach me what i already knew - but lost sight of. only my parents and brothers know i am banded; all good support and i would likely expect that from others that i shared this with. for those who want to share - do so; it's a great gift getting proper support in the journey.....however some just like to keep it to themselves - all personal.

i'm of the "stop signs are optional after 10pm" camp myself.
  7. you may not know for while if any damage has been done to create a slip - even after getting checked right now. that's sorta the fickleness of the band - there is no set template on how it functions for any 2 alike. a slip can show up anytime - your best bet is to follow your post op diet as prescribed by your doctor. as far as your question "what happens when you've over eaten" - i've done this once or twice. your just stuffed, and i didn't pay attention to my triggers that i have eaten plenty...ie - my nose will run or i get a hiccup. still a yr out i measure my meals out - i know how much will satisfy me, my worst problems are when dining out & it's been those times where i ate too much.

something tells me she has no shame and will LOVE the fact she has become the villain, unless she doesn't win...LOL:tongue2: she really makes my skin crawl, not proud to say it, but i was hoping for no weight loss for her, maybe a lb gain last night...:smile2: go michelle!!!
  14. i would do it all over again as many have stated. i wish insurance would have paid (BMI not high enough), and i also wish it didn't take 8 fills for restriction. both of these i had no control over so, there was the need for a bit of self control early out. now the band works they way i had imagined.

    What to tell work?

there are Many reason for some to keep this private. medical intervention, no matter what it is - should be personal & private, with HIPPA protection....make that intervention WLS & you'll have more opinions & advice that may not only be unsolicited but downright offensive. i have kept this private & that of my husband being banded from everyone except my parents & brothers. hubby's family and our best friends have no idea. we agreed the moment we "shared" we no longer owned the journey the way we wanted to - so therefore, no questions - no foul. to the OP - if your afforded PTO (paid time off) your HR nor your company has the right to know why - medical intervention at best is all they need to know.....wish you well!
  22. check out the food & nutrition forum: Food and Nutrition - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum there is a sticky for all stages of "eating"....

Help! What can I buy My Doctor for Christmas?

mine will get a holiday greeting card like he and his staff did last yr. i was cash pay, times 2 with hubby being banded as well. they're is very little "want" or "need" on his part i would imagine. i also don't list my dr in my signature line for the same reason - he doesn't need my advertising ... he does all too well on his own. a nice card to acknowledge them is really all they need & want from my view point.
  24. only in trying certain foods will you be able to determine what your band will be able to handle. i eat ALL foods - salads included; fruits, meats, veggies & complex carbs. i will say that the sticky rice in sushi is the hardest of foods for me to handle - i must go slow and chew well & all is good.
  25. i didn't get those restrictions on diet from my dr - but i eat sushi wkly. had a spicy tuna roll yesterday; only3 pcs filled me up.
