  1. Wow is right YaYa - 3.5 months on mushies? Such fantastic weight loss you've had! By wk 4/5 my surgeon has us (husband * I banded the same day) moving to 3 high protein meals a day, no snacking. First fill was wk 5 & my second one is next wk. I took Wasa's advise & did not let up on my walking - averaging 6/7 miles a day, 6 days a wk, with intake of approx 850cal per day. I've lost about 25lbs, several inches & feel like I'm in a groove. I don't think about food other than to nurish myself, I'm never "starved", have never been "stuck" or PB'd, .. I pretty much follow my Dr's post op Diet plan to a T, and the most important thing for me, I lost my craving for Carbs. I was a carbo junkie on steroids (ha). I didn't find this site till a wk after I was banded, I love it/read it daily, and get inspired to get off my A$$ every morning and Walk...especially like a day like today where it looks like it could rain...but I'll go anyway. Good Luck on the rest of your weigh loss!! Lulu
  2. So, have been banded for 3 wks tomorrow & have lost about 15lbs. I'm fine with how things have gone - liquids, mushies, soups, shakes ..blah blah blah, boring but all I've needed. I have up'd my walking to over an hr a day (on a ranch - lots of room to roam) and have gotten hungrier the last 2 days. This AM I thought I could handle an Atkins "soft" breakfast bar before my walk. I chewed it till it was water and only ate half. Well not only did my walk last 15min, but the pain in my shoulder/throat/PB etc. has made me feel like I have the flu. Sick! So, water & broth the last few hrs and the thought of anything else makes me gag. I'm struggling with the exercise vs protein / calorie intake. I do my best to get my protein shakes in, but "might" make it to 850 calories a day. Anyone else with this issue? Do I cut back on walking till I can get more calories in? Yesterday I could have eaten a horse, today I'll be lucky to have a cup of soup..My first fill is scheduled for 11.12 btw. TIA,
  3. TOM & Turkey Day has been tuff! Walking 90mins/850cal a day to break into the 170's - .5 to go and NOT coming off fast enough. 2nd fill next wk, hopefully that will ignite things. Fingers crossed. Good Luck All~
  4. wow julie - amazing...i dragged my husband into my office to view your pics & he could not believe you 2 were the same person. Great inspiration, thanks for sharing. lulu

    Together or Separately?

That should not be a problem, I was 10pts lower than my husbands BMI & 7 wks out I cook the same for both of us, high protein - lean meals (he eats more usually). He healed faster than I did & in doing so got hungry well before me, it is true ... no 2 are alike in this deal. I like the "duet" name, very fitting, Lu~

    Together or Separately?

If you have the opportunity to do it together, I "Highly" recommend it! Husband and I have not had one appt alone, we're even getting our fills @ the same time...Great check & balance in the home as far as food / exercise goes..Good luck, lulu

  8. I was banded last month by him in Dallas....Love him, best decision we (husband banded with me:)) ever made...He is FANTASTIC!!! Makes himself very available during your aftercare. LuLu
  9. So, I have lurked here over a month, commented sparingly - but have read with great interest & for informative purposes. As an educated individual able to retire at 37, I've met personal / financial objectives - yet struggled with keeping fit in my adulthood. That is my only goal now - I'm in this, did "this" for me and only me. Rather taking care of the "world", I now take care of ME - something strange...but something altogether rewarding, a new concept for me. Ladies, let's not pretend there are many of you old timers (lapband preface only- who have been on this board / are buds - yet can provide some spectacular advise, though be annoyed at times. I log on with my coffee in the AM - before my walk, and check to see "your" last log on & advise...or Rant. I think you do a disservice, not to rise above the "newbie talk" - you have a lot to offer...Maybe co-write a book, webcasts, etc..... We're all "Virgins" at one point in this process - A giggle here & a lift up there does WONDERS for the ego & your personal well being. Enjoy the rants - I may participate in the future...Be kind:) Lu
  10. Man every Dr is different, if I've learned nothing else on this board. Had first fill one month after surgery and it's working great!!! Really eating only 600-900 calories a day - walking 60-90 mins now 6 days per wk. Dr. says he wants my fills to be 3 wks apart for the next 4 months...My husband (banded same day) 2 wks apart. He from what I've read is of the aggressive side of fills. If your' working your diet / exercising / & losing....he wants to boost you along. I'm very happy with the results, Foxy....I know your pain....Same age, same "maybe" social scene. I know I put the extra 70lbs on the last 7yrs due to career networking diners/drinks etc. I still like my "wine" but make sure it's in my calorie count for the day & I've earned the right to have it after a workout...keep it up ya'll.... lu

    tattoos

2 for me: - mine & husbands monogram in greek lettering on left ankle - cancer sign w/moon & stars on left shoulder - *new* to come after goal met on the inside of left wrist 101207 date of being banded.
  12. Jarvis J, I was banded by Dr. Felts last month & had my first fill / post op this past Monday. He is GREAT! His follow up afterwards was very caring & supportive. I too had a low BMI - they should absolutely be able to help you....His staff is some of the nicest people you will meet, they care!! Lu
  13. Hi BrendaLee, I too am from TX - Just bought a ranch outside of Dallas with my husband a year 1/2 ago..Still trying to figure that all out (orig from NYC - last 12 yrs in North Dallas)..LOL No kids but lots of dogs. My starting weight was 200 on my 5ft frame. Was a small athletic person up until I got married, a bunch of circumstances & both husband and self got "thick" ... so we were actually banded on the same day 10.12.07. We're doing good, of course competing with each other on weight loss....it's actually helped us out BOTH of us doing this at the same time. Personal goal is to be back to wedding date weight of 125 by 1 yr anniversary...Fingers Crossed! LuLu
  14. Great Idea - One month out I lost 15lbs & just had my first fill on Monday. Today is my "First" day of real food so to speak after the band, was told to start my 3 high protein meals - no snacking. I walk 5-6 days a week; 30-60 minutes & am hoping the remaining 60 fall of FAST. I'm an instant gratification person, so this slow weight loss is harder than head hunger ... LOL. Lu

    few of our pups..
  16. I had bad port pain 10days out. My surgeon suggested liquid tylenol and a warm compress. The heat pad worked great, only needed to do that for 2 days. Lu
  17. I had Dr Felts for my Lapband @the Surgery Ctr of Richardson. He is awesome.,!! His staff et. all were amazing and continue to be... He even called during a cowboy game to check to see how I was....:clap2:

    New and nervous!

Hi Jilly, Not sure what type of insurance (we had BCBS at the time - grateful no more!) you have, but my experience was not that great - having to wait 7 months to eventually self pay. My BMI was 37, my husband 47 (both banded on the same day). We went through all the required testing (sleep/psych/blood/stress/etc). Insurance covered all those costs but in the end did not approve either of us for the Lapband Procedure. Didn't make sense to me that they paid over 8k each in testing but declined us for the actual procedure - even with co-morbids for my husband. You'll get a lot of answers here, as I've read in the last few wks each Dr. / Ins is different. I wish I only knew I needed to self pay a yr ago and I'd be skinny now - Either way ... Best of luck!

    Morning Protein

Hi all, I was wondering if any of you have good suggestions for morning protein. I have 2 issues: 1- Never was a breakfast eater .... 3/4 cups of black coffee would hold me till around 11am. 2- Cold drinks are not working for me...I struggle with the protein drinks first thing in the am (2 sips and have the grossly full feeling) but have been forcing them somewhat just to get the energy going for the start of the day. I'd love some suggestions as I have started walking up to 2 miles each morning & yesterday got a little dizzy when I got home. My husband thinks I'm not getting enough protein... Appreciate any feedback,
  20. I mix a little hummus in it, w/salt & peper.

    When can I exercise?

I started "walking" immediately & when I felt better, which was around day 8, I increased my time. Since then I have progressed to walking an hour a day...taking it slow. As far as weights go , I use my 2lb for my upper body only...Trying not to go full steam for at least 6-8wks per my Surgeon.
  22. Hello~ My husband and I were banded over 2 wks ago, and it is GREAT having the support system in house. We figured we got fat together, might as well get skinny together...Best of Luck!!! Lu

    Morning Protein

Thanks all, I should have mentioned - Cold drinks in the AM are a problem. I've read elsewhere on this forum that others 2 have had this experience. It's not that I don't like them... taste wise and all, just they don't go down well (I get a lump in my throat & and fully feeling with 2 sips) coffee is what I start out with first thing... and with still being in month 1 of being banded I was looking to see if any other ideas were out there. I would LOVE toast and peanut butter, but am afraid to even go the bread route just yet....Much Thanks for the responses... Lu~
