Advice you can take or leave, but please listen..
luluc replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in Rants & Raves
I get ya! I pretty much gleam past those because, telling one to call a Dr doesn't appear to be what they want to hear. I'm pretty sympathetic to some who appear scared / without a strong support system - or like me in the beginning had a lot of questions / concerns. Many on this thread were kind to my early psycho stages, to reply. -
yesterday - b- 1/2c fiber one squares * 2%milk l- 1tbsp of hummus w/ 1 oz carib. Jerk chicken / 1/2c asparagus/whole wheat pasta salad d- 1/3c lentil / brown rice / ground turkey “chilli” s- handful of walnuts

Advice you can take or leave, but please listen..
luluc replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in Rants & Raves
I found LBT "After" I was banded - and I'm not an example of WLS research. I decided one night - that's what I'll have; and then researched a recommendation. Though I found a talented Surgeon, I could never imagine taking medical advise here & make it my own. My opionion only - BUT..... I believe MO/or just Obese patients will "Accept" words of wisdom here - don't want to "bother" medical staff for their own good. I could be slammed here - but that's my assessment. I'm pretty fickle - maybe because I had to write a check for $30k (hubby banded same day w/me) .. I had NO hesitation calling my Dr for any stupid question I had. And ya know what - My surgeon Loved my "stupid" questions- Even on a Sunday during Dallas Cowboy Game....He took the time to talk to me. A good Dr in my opionion welcomes a dialogue on how to get healthy. We're still in a war of words of what my goal weight should be - but that's a conversation I dont' see taking place on this forum. A truly active particpation on how to get healthy - NOT a mission to get to size 4. I wish I did more research - but I am where I am - and I work my ass off every day to get fit.. And each day I feel that much better / relaxed & can enjoy the small gifts..... -
I do make it to TN twice a yr. My Husbands Grandmother & family lives in Cleveland...We usually fly into Atlanta and drive up .. Trying to get a flight to Chatt & drive is just not worth it....But you could make a trip to TX??!!!??? I could set up a Lapband TX SkyDive outting??? Any takers??

Oh Lauren - I LOVE skydiving: Skydive Dallas - The Best Skydiving Center in TEXAS!* State of the Art Parachutes, Tandem and AFF First Jumps ( solo ) I got too heavy to go 3yrs ago, and can't wait till my bday in June to get back in the straps. It is the biggest "HIGH" ever, and I have experienced in the other "types"...:scared2: I've done about 15 tandem jumps & took my husband about 5yrs ago for his first. He about choked watching me rock/roll out of the plane before him -... He's like you disappeared into a dot in the sky - that freaked him out...By the time he landed he's like, lets go again. If ya got the urge, I say do it!!!

Had my surgery cancelled!!!
luluc replied to yvonneky's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh - that's just the WORST luck of All!!! I'd call tomorrow and see if you can not be bumped up on the schedule for surgery this wk - especially after being on the liquid diet for prep. If they can bump you on a moments notice, w/IV started - they can possibly rescheulde another patient for a different day w/enough notice. I'd let them know your frustration & disappointment. Fingers crossed for ya!!!! -
Trouble getting time off for surgery?
luluc replied to Scarlet Vixen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Do you have a wk of vacation afforded to you? If you do - your entitled to take that whether your having lapband surgery or toasting your buns on a beach. If you have vacation hours built in - take them, Mgmt cant' take those away from you. If it's a problem w/other staff and overlapping Vacation schedules - address the possibility of "Others" changing their time off - Not just you. Since you discussed your Lapband surgery with Him - and your Self Pay, let him know this Time off at your Expense if very important to you & would Love his support. Try the nice route first - then get fiesty if you get push back:) Good Luck - Hope you have a successful surgery:) -
flying with the band
luluc replied to saravalintine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a card as well - No issues to date. One thing to keep in mind is that air travel can cause tightness that may carry over a day or two - Be sure not to get a fill w/in a day or two of taking a flight. -
You didn't mention trying Rainer's suggestion!!!:scared2: The Big O does wonders for your sleep & complextion:rolleyes: Or was that the massage?? LOL I don't have your problem , but am married to an insomniac. We had every test done on him known to man - It got so bad we converted one guest room and bath to a "husband suite" because he just totally interferred w/my la la land rest. He also had sleep apnea & the CPAP machine drove me to want to shove bamboo shoots up his nails when he "FINALLY" was asleep. Warm Milk - 1 hr of meditation / stretching - no exercising after 4pm, got his late night wandering down significantly. He is also banded, and the more he looses, the better things get. That's not to say that I don't send him off to his "quarters" every now and then ..... Oh one more thing we have a "house rule" no computer after 10pm - unless business emergency for him overseas. That makes the mind "race" and not relax, plus cuts down on what I call "drunk (not drunk per se - but lack of sleep) emailing". I treasure my sleep - I LOVE it, hope you get there soon~~

I doubt you need another fill - but the best way to check that is to see how you eat solid proteins. Eating soft food, just lets you eat more volume (ie - 2cups of salad / 1cup chick pot pie .... btw LOVE chicken pot pie). I am a "tad" tight right now after a fill last wk - but when I moved to solids, I make sure I can eat chicken / fish / tuna / etc. So long as I can do that, though chewing more and slowing down my eating, I know the solid food limits my portion size, and for the most part keeps me full longer. If you can't get solid food down, you may require a slight unfil. My Dr warns about being to tight by: 1- Not able to eat breakfast 2- Eat only soft foods 3- Drink my meals. Everyone pretty much has different guidelines to follow - I would attend your fill appt. and discuss w/your Dr.
-
I get my measuring cups out about once a month - just to gauge myself on the portion sizes I'm eating. This isn't so much for me, rather my trainer who wants to see my food journal to make recommendations based off of how hard I'm working out. Got a good feeling I know what a 1/4c , 1/2c , 1/3c, 1c looks like now.
-
If you haven't already - start taking your measurements. I find when the scale is pesky the tape measure is my friend, I also go into my spare bdrm closet and try on some of my smaller jeans & see how they fit. Don't give up the gym, I think we all have scale plateaus, however with working out consistently, you'll see inches disappearing which helps you stay motivated...

Chickie & others who are Vegetarians - Do you have some URL's for food choices / menus / recipes?? I"ve been online this afternoon after spending a bunch of $$, and time at the health store today for tofu / legumes etc. and have hit upon circles of dialogue vs food choices & how to prepare. My interest isn't to become a Vegetarian - but get a better balance of protein - and those that don't come from animals. I do love a steak every now and then - chicken & fish too...I just can't do chicken or tuna every other day - I'm quite bored. That and well I run a ranch....And I see my Longhorns as pets - not something smothered in bernaise' sauce....So I'm evolving I guess:smile: Thanks in advance, Lulu

Anyone not losing due to emotional eating/eating around band?
luluc replied to mandi78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Mandi - You need to remove the negative friends & non supportive people around you like the junk food in the house. I somehow snapped my emotional eating by fixating on a healthy fit body to live in - and by doing so, there a LOT of former co-workers / friends & family that' I've just checked from - while I'm on my mission to get healthy. I don't know what will work for you - but I am in the DFW area, and would help you out along the way. -
That is great kbinaz!!!! I'm self pay lap bander myself, and I told hubby when we did this (we were banded the same day) to expect more expenses w/trainers * such while we work towards goal. Our trainer finally got his arms around the lapband (made him go read up on it), and he gets why now I went that route, and I consider him part of my Doctors staff & Family on helping me get healthy and fit. I'll tell him I love him when he gets the rest of my ass off the back of my thighs - for now his ass cracking squats want me to pinch his nose:)

Oct 07 Bandsters - how are you doing?
luluc replied to yankeerobin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
OMG ... This is my biggest fear!!! After 10yrs of fertility treatments, I gave up and decided I'm a dog owner. And now that I'm taking care of myself - being selfish about my time @ the gym, etc...that is when I'd get pregnant. CONGRATS!!!!!! All the best for a happy band baby!!!...I'm sending hubby to get a vasectomy now::thumbup:) LOL I just turned the curve w/working out hard and getting proper restriction - Down 52lbs & close to 19 inches all around gone. I've turned a bit of an exercise junkie and food police to hubby (banded w/me) - sorta like a reformed smoker. Hope everyone continues to do well...Bandster1007, keep us updated on the little one~ -
Couch to 5K Anyone want to start with me ?
luluc replied to coltonwade's topic in Fitness & Exercise
bigbaby, i'm pulling for ya next wk to see that 1 in the front of your scale!!! whosya, i like the idea of goals, i'm just not a good goal setter other than for vanity purposes (ie - wedding 4.19 / another wedding in june / family reunion in july)...my goals are "i want my ass skinny by XXX date....LOL:tongue: i did sign up for the 3day walk in Nov for the Susan G Komen walk for the cure, i should stretch myself and sign up for some "athletic" run / race / hike etc. dh and i have mountain bikes that we use to ride around grapevine lake (NTX) when were fit, but they are dusty hanging from the garage...think it's time to bring those out, i really enjoyed that workout. got 500 new songs to jam to this am at the gym.....have a good wkend all~~ -
I'm guessing you should definitely have your Dr check for a leak, That's pretty easy for them to determine. If your getting stuck, the reason could be your eating too fast - not necessarily that you had great restriction at the time. I had a tendency to eat fast (especially after a workout)...Now it's a lot more chewing, and I still struggle at times when I'm just so use to shoveling it all in. As far as liquids - yeah I'm sure you'll loose the 5lbs you gained...but I've been advised (and read here) that you really should be eating your meals not drinking them. Your best bet is to get into your Dr and get a consult on what your experiencing. Hope it all works out!!!

4cc's at the time of surgery.. Is his too much early on?
luluc replied to readytoloselbs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My Dr put 5ccs in my 10cc band during surgery...It still took 6 fills afterwards to get restriction at around month 5. I think having an advanced fill is a blessing, at least for me. Good luck w/your surgery!!! -
yesterday - b- 1/2 pckt kasha go lean vanilla oatmeal w/raspberries l- 2 oz smoke salmon on cucumber chips * light cream cheese d- **late night bar food watching Basketball** 1 chicken wing / 1 fried cheese / few chips & queso + 1 LG margarita - thankfully got the workout in, in the AM!!-
-
Yeah - they are the ones Oprah likes & they ARE huge!!! I think each one has 10 eye hooks in the front. DH laughs how I put those one - leaning forward, tucking the boobs to the sides so I can actually SEE the hooks to lock them in place. Then I look like I'm off to battle he says..LOL I hate underwire...and these secure me to my throat almost, but I like that better than black eyes:tongue:. They're very well built & comfortable now that I've gotten use to them. Googled Berlei, I like their regular Bra selection, will have to peruse further.

who supports right to choose
luluc replied to 396power's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Nope don't like your breakup of dialogue - You interrupt "albeit cyber convo", and it truly distracts from content, my issue I guess. I am Catholic - But half Jewish too, I was raised to recognize both faiths but to get to specifics, was baptised, rec'd first communion, was confirmed in the Catholic Faith. You pose questions Gadget, that maybe Rugman didn't feel the need to explain, but I will - irregardless of my "Faith", I believe in the Right to Choose - Bar NOTHING. Doesn't make me a bad Catholic, Doesnt' mean I can't take communion. Your line of questioning is quite intriguing - trying to get to the "root", very passive aggressive , not seen a single Pro Choice person here question your views they way you do. But hey, you can throw more scripture/study out there, and more than likely most will ignore, who differ in your opinion. As will I & your last 1/3 statements. I treat your cut/copy/paste dogma like someone posting in all CAPS that they are stuck on a cheeseburger day 2 post op. OK - people change their mind, Gee no one did that for political purposes did they?? Come on - I was saying that in gest of this thread only. Please do a poll who "changed their views from this thread". I consider myself a considerate person, The God I was raised to worship does not judge. He loves all - SO with that I really Need my husbands plane to land ... DAMN AA, got my skinny panties in a wad here tonite, and that usually doesnt' happen. For Real - Checking out tonite....Smoochies to all!!
