I have had more dairy in the 6 months of being banded than I have in the last 6yrs combined...LOL I have yogurt on a regular basis - Low Fat w/some kind of fruit & granola; this is my breakfast on some days. I think your Dr might be wanting you to watch "whole dairy" - but call & ask. I can't see yogurt as a bad thing really,.....

Protein Shake tastes like card board!!
luluc replied to MsButterKup23's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
YES - EAS Carb Control is my Favorite Protein Shake by Far (not vanilla thought) 110 Calories & 17 grams of protein. -
If that's what's on your list from your Dr - follow it. Look for the sugar free version - those might be best for the first few wks....This is a great site, full of knowledge - however you have to have a good relationship w/your Dr & trust his guidelines first. Congrats on the Band!!

Snuffy - I think there has been a good representation of faiths / non faiths represented here...& for the most part coming to a similar conclusion that some "form" of neglect has taken place. Since your off to the "Who Supports the Right to Choose" thread now - I'll let Gadget play w/ya - To my end, I'm still anxious to see how this legally plays out. Lulu~

So there's no "exercise police" here? First time signing up - I thought there might be a set challenge of time etc...Whosya, going to keep me in check????...LOL Right now thru the first of May I'm in a twice a wk Boot Camp w/trainer. No idea what I'll be doing till that day comes...BTW it's an A$$ whip. 3/4 days I'm doing hard cardio & weight training or core exercises set by the man that whips my butt. Not sure of any additional info to throw out - advise welcomed..

I'll answer!!! Cause Gadget and I SOOOOOO agree on the abortion issue. I'm a church go'er & I'm challenged DAILY by it. I got LOTS of issues w/the faith I was raised in: Catholic, but I have a Priest that loves my dialogue and questions from the Right to Choose / Rights of Gays / .. Fill in the blank. I look outside the box - I like other intepretations, but that doesn't mean I'll make them my own. I'm well over the age of influence to change the spots I have. I try hard to be "respectful" of other Faiths / Non Faiths. This clearly is Neglect - Sure Diabetes killed her, but Modern medicine could have SAVED her. Her parents failed her. This may not be a popular opinion - but not everyone should have the right to have a family. I have to have liscenses for certain animals on my ranch & liscenses for my guns - And if the Gov't wants to check those - .... So be it, I have nothing to hide. There ARE laws in place to protect children from neglect...Therefore What's so wrong w/the parents going thru the court system? Let their faith carry them thru to judgement....but my guess, their living a silent hell right now....

luluc replied to bandster_1007's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Very sorry for your loss - I've had 4 miscarriages & 2 D/C's; both of those were when I was past 2 months. It's never an easy discision...Sending good thoughts your way!! -
Wow while typing - so much other stuff took place. Arguing is "work", debate is free flowing & should be w/out effort.....Shouldn't it??? I may also need a good nights rest:)

I liked Lauren's analogy as well - For me, I think this is a punnishment issue, because clearly it's neglect. I don't think this set of parents will get a jury to convict so extreme on one end VS another...They will be made an example of - and they're will be some form of punnishment. What that actually is , is VERY intriguing to me. BJean, I have a Sister In Law like your ex Beau the Judge. Her Government interferrence into her childrens well being was in the form of her Mother In Law ... My Mom. My mom use to show up daily / camera in hand ready to pounce. SIL is now on board w/the rest of the family or she had the Right to leave - but leave her kids. Now that may have been an extreme, but My parents would have stopped at nothing & fought Church , Gov't, or the Law & acted in the best interest of their Grand Kids...

OK - so though the scale has been nice lately this made the Sales Lady @ Norstroms want to kick me out of the dressing RM.... Have a wedding 4.19, and had been dreading trying to find something while still in that "place - not at goal". Since I'm short 5'1 / 34DD / and got a big tush, shopping for pants makes my skin crawl. I get the hives basically. So I grab a pair of 12's...Note, I started wearing 16's - they were too big, I'm like GREAT a 10 (dress pants mind ya),....Nope their too big. I end up getting a really great pant suit (HATE skirts/dresses) size 10 top & 8 bottom. ON SALE TOO $58 for it all. That just means I get to go find Killer shoes/purse::))!!!

other health problems aggrivated by weight-rhumetoid arthritis
luluc replied to Scarlett O'hara's topic in The Lounge
I'll chime in on my first view. I was diagnosed a few months back with Ankylosing spondylitis. AS is a form of RA that attacks the spine, causing joint pain, in the normal places: Knees/Hips/Ankles/Wrists. I knew I had joint pain - but just thought, I'm WAY overweight & not active. It was after I had the Lapband & started exercising that I really needed this checked out. After a Lot of tests / MRI's / sonograms etc...My Rheumatologist advise on a pain med that's works with the lapband, that's injections each month of non NSAIDS,,,We're testing out a few w/coordination w/my Lapband Dr. Bottom line - best course of action is ACTION. Getting weight off the bones, and being active are the 2 top priorities in addressing issues w/RA (as described to me). My mom is a skinny minnie (has been her whole life)...she has RA and it was diagnosed well advanced that she now has her ankles & hips "Pinn'd" in place. She exercises now, but for the most part - damage is done. Not sure I'm telling ya much more that most Dr's will - Weight Loss & Exercise delay this progressive disease. Good luck!! -
BJean - I do you see your point, I'm not a fan of anymore Gov't dictating how I should live my life...I do however, view sitting by seeing a child die as neglect. Neglect of the parents and family that were around this child that "could possibly" have intervened - and sought medical attention. "How" is this punnished?? - I think that's more the debate VS religoius freedom. I don't have children - I am active in multiple Animal Shelter / Rescue Groups - and their are "Animal Police" that will take a dog from ones home if they are viewed to be neglected in terms of Shelter / Nutrition / Abuse / Disease...I don't see why it would be a crime to intervene on a Child if any of the above were to be brought to the attention of the authorities. Wkly DH has to talk me out from wanting to pick up a stray (been bit - have scars), and it breaks my heart I can't scoop up the dog and take it for medical attention before it's run over....Can you visualize a child in the same circumstances? I think the parents should have their day in court - and let "this society" decide their fate? If they're that "faithful"....they'll be reunited w/the other children -

Couch to 5K Anyone want to start with me ?
luluc replied to coltonwade's topic in Fitness & Exercise
the question is bigbaby - did you buy yourself one of those linda carter outfits online today???? again congrats!!!! -
Nope - and she didn't answer my question why that board talks SO much about the "Choke Chain / Laff band. I saw her reply to Angelica, and slamming her for working out like crazy. I guess the DS Bariatric surgeons are the only one's in the WLS field that don't recommend Diet & Exercisce as part of Post Surgery......Amazed, she should have posted over in the Complications thread if she want's to spread her word - she entered the R&R and wanted to debate? Don't necessarily think so... Lu~

As a practicing Catholic - it is true that "the rhythm method" is the preferred form of Birth Control.....But I don't see that as a mandate w/in the Church. Truly they've evolved (not much for my liking at times) - how ridiculous would it be to rely on a montly calendar & risk the HUGE upside of an unplanned pregnancy - then be dead set against abortion. It's a slippery slope so to speak. I was put on BC pills @ the age of 15 for much of the reasons you mention....Didn't mean I couldn't take communion. Abortion is another issue (thread), & Gadget will eloquently state her view on this, however as a Pro Choice person, who has had discussions w/my Priest - that too does not prevent my ability to recieve communion.

I'm going to have to agree w/ya Gadget ***Mark date/time ....LOL*** I struggled with putting cornea implants in my 15yr old Lab, I could never imagine sitting watching a child die w/out medical attention. I'd most definitely call this neglect.

Trouble getting time off for surgery?
luluc replied to Scarlet Vixen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was about to say the SAME thing - I really believe they Can't (some Ins expert step in to confirm..), He needs to contact his States Worker's Comp Board immediately. And if he's in a Union - contact them as well, -
This thread is going to be sooo inappropriate!
luluc replied to WASaBubbleButt's topic in Rants & Raves
Sue, Since I did partake in the viewing of the DS OH site last wk, I have a really honest question to ask - minus the drama. Why is the Lapband talked about so much there? If the generalization of the "Pooh" issue are incorrect - couldn't the same be said about the "Choke Chain" comments? Personally, I like to hear the bad experiences about the Lapband - I like to know there are other alternative surgeries should this fail. But at the current moment I've never PB'd / limitations of food are in place for me because I'm in weightloss mode / and I have zero doubt I can loose 100% of my excess weight. To that - Since this is the Rant/Rave Forum - and the Title read "This would be inappropriate", why would a DS'er expect anything less? I'm glad you came her to set the record straight on the bathroom issue - the few threads that I read where a Lapbander tried to explain that it has worked for them - they were slammed. Lulu~ -
good luck & have fun. i started this back in jan, and now i can run a 5k under 30mins...and i am NO runner:) the couch 5k got me to take working out very serious - and the accountability to each other keeps ya motivated...ENJOY!!!
