Puberty and obesity - possible link?
luluc replied to Fanny Adams's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Fanny Adams, I was 11 when had my first "menarche/period" & a C cup at the time. So yeah I matured much earlier than my peers and my mom - who was 16 when she got her period for the first time & never got over a A cup. From that time on I remained in the 120lb range & it wasn't until the last few years that I gained my weight...but KNOW I always had the propensity. The minute I got married & stop working out is when I put on the lbs. For me, I HAVE to include exercise to the diet & band for me to have the desired results I want,, cause I'll always have them "Hips" -
congrats on the NSV's ceradad!!!! my husband was banded the same day as me & has never visited this site. he's picked up a few terms from me and it just warms my heart when he tell's me a new NSV he has.. i'm going to be brave, for a change:) i hit my 6th month mark this past wk, and i said i'd let dh take a pic of me then. well we have a wedding tomorrow night & i'll post the before / after. i SWORE i would never do this ... but i'm actually happy w/the results so far...ANYWAY today: 30min elliptal 20min ab routine 30min bike 20min bi/tri arm routine 2mile run.... have a good wkend all!!

Carbonated Drinks - Why we shouldn't have them -Explained
luluc replied to *Love*'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't take my eyes off of her "digging" .... That's never happened w/the 7 fills I have had. My port is a tad raised on the stomach since I've lost my belly fat & it's easily accessible. I must admit I cringed & I would have snapped up off the table w/all that poking - even w/numbing injection (not a fan of needles). -
Does to me. Just different opinions on what to do; sorta like the pre/post op diet - everyones Dr is not the same, again I also did not have a Nut consultation. My personal experience is that in adding weight training; did enhance my weight loss & appearance.

I'm going to agree w/TulipStar. I had a very difficult time in getting restriction, and I wholeheartedly believe exercise kept me "busy/active" to take my mind off of food while changing the way my body looks. When the scale wasn't moving - inches were falling off / clothing sizes dropped. I didn't start serious weight training till about 3 months ago, and to be honest that's when I started to drop the most weight & inches. I never had Nut appt during my process but my Dr told me to get active as soon as possible (walking immediately) & get a fitness program including weights after 10wks. As of today, I'm probably eating more than I have since getting the Lap Band, because I need the calories to handle the workouts my trainer puts me through - it scared me at first to start adding carbs back into my diet; however the good ones are what I need at the moment. I personally see great benefits to exercise. It definitely can't hurt!! I've gone from a 16 to an 8 in 6 months, and thankfully no plastic surgery is going to be needed...well maybe the eyes when I hit the 4-0:smile:

depends - If your on Clear liquids - maybe not. I only had 3 stages: clear liquids / mushy / soft food. So when I was in my mushy stage, my Dr said I could have what I wanted that withstood the straw test. If it can stand upright - go for it.

Advice needed! Lipodissolve? Tummy Tuck??
luluc replied to Hello Kittee's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
A good friend of mine went to FIG (Southlake,TX) they were a LipoDissolve partner that now has filed for bankruptcy. This was described to her as a solution for those who needed to "tone up" not so much take off inches & she was a good candidate....Very much in shape, but had a loose tummy after 4 kids. She put a deposit down of $5,000 & had 4 treatments (8 more remained). She has hardened lumps under her skin where she had these injections. Her loose skin, now looks like she has rocks under poking thru. She is mortified & has signed onto a class action law suit. Who knows where this will go , whether she will recoup any losses or get the lumps fixed by another Dr..... I WAS considering this & would encourage those who are to look into this further...The above article is quite interesting. -

Gadget - I didn't use "science" as way to justify my position, believe Jennie questioned me on it. I'm pretty vanilla / simple in my thinking here since "faith & science" can easily be challenged by any / all sides of an argument. I don't want to use my value system or scientific understanding to create law, more importantly I don't want someone elses; that I do not share, to do the same. You can probably ask me a million other questions with other comparissons. That's my view - not changing, not budging. -
ah green, so great to see you posting - hope your doing well.!!. the OP's frustration and anger is easily recognizable & understandable. it is however unfortunate to say one person is more deserving than others - not knowing the frustration of many self payers who tried to go the insurance route first... personally, i think it's great lower bmi individuals are getting the Lap Band, because they are preventing the likely outcome of diseases that come with obesity. and if they can get insurance to pay for it = FANTASTIC!!! hug away~~

in response to jennie as well: i can agree it is the beginning of life, absolutely i can. i also understand the "science" vs religious view on this, and for me (& my pro choice view only), it is still someone else's view that i may not share. i might even share some of the same beliefs, however i would never want my value system to be judge & jury over anothers body. see ele, we can get along:tongue: -
How much weight did you lose in the first month?
luluc replied to Brandy~'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If you just had surgery 2wks ago, your still healing. I believe it was stated above, the first month for the most part is taking care of yourself after surgery. Though many might loose a lot off the bat, it is not uncommon for weightloss to stall before the fill process has begun. Just follow your Dr's program, and you should be fine in a month or so. Congrats on the 12lbs!!! -
but if you can rant - why can't we rave? if you wanted support - there are other forums, if you wanted to b&^%h - you came to the right place. maybe you weren't prepared for honest feedback??

Elenation - I too enjoyed/appreciated your post. The reason I feel there needs to be a "Law" in place to protect the Right to Choose hinges on the fact that many do not hold your view that life begins at conception. Because there are "differences" of opinion, I feel it's important the "law" be in place to protect my right; because it would be unfair for me or anyone else to be held accountable to anothers belief system. There are actual more dynamics to this discussion other than when conception begins - that's just one of them. For the many more "what if" scenarios, I always come back to..."Well that's great you believe that way, I don't" - therefore I should be allowed to make my own decision, however painful it may be. Again, appreciated your post & view, -

Yeah - you did hit a bit of a nerve, at least w/me - but am going to acknowlege this is likely coming from a place of anger & frustration. I say that because 225 "Could" put someone in the Mobidly Obese category - someone like me who is 5'1. At 200lbs I was MO, my insurance covered WLS - but I did not meet their requirements. I wanted this - so self pay was my only option. To say that you are more deserving (and that's what I'm interpreting) is pretty selfish & uncaring to those who wanted to "Prevent" the onset of MO, by getting surgery sooner rather than later. I WISH I did!!! For what it's worth, I have never regretted dropping 15k to essentially save me from future health issues. I wish you well -

My Dr is also an "aggressive filler" but only at my request. I struggled w/my last fill, because I was looking for my sweet spot - then got it & wasn't sure I wanted to be "that" restricted. I'm also working out pretty hard & was not getting enough calories in - many times I felt dizzy when w/my trainer. That strong fill lasted about 10days and now I like where I'm at eating approx 1100 calories vs the 800 I had been taking in, and I feel completely satisfied - can even eat a sandwich. I'm sure telling your Dr that you'd like to take this slow will be no problem at all.

Couch to 5K Anyone want to start with me ?
luluc replied to coltonwade's topic in Fitness & Exercise
congrats nikki - it actually does get easier, but that ramp time is a KILLER!!! wombat - i'm not so much running the full 5k; as i'm still in "boot camp" & my trainer has me run 2miles in our sessions each time & i'll be honest...i really don't run any other days than the 2 that i meet w/him. i need a break & have been switching between the bike or elliptical, something not as hard impacting on the bones. hope everyone is doing well!! -
